Yeah you get 70s prog elitists who dislike The Mars Volta and then there are a camp of people who dislike Cedric's voice but I think they are a cool band. Octahedron and Noct were terrible but I liked the melodies in the last pop album

| bighubbabuddha Rubin worked on Life of Pablo first 4 tracks which are also simultaneously the best. Don't ignore that. He was an assistant producer with Adele, I don't know the ins and outs of every album he has worked on. But overall you take a *pretty* contrarian view of Rubin, it's not "wrong" and I can see where you are coming from but my original point on versatility can't be denied.

| bighubbabuddha The Mars Volta album is not poorly produced, it is incredibly well produced and that is the consensus from critics and fans lol. The drumming sounds excellent, the dynamic range, clarity are great. neither is Toxicity, Hypnotize etc considered badly produced by fans, land mark nu-metal albums that benefited from rubin's touches with vocal changes, guitar transitions etc.. yes Californication is overly compressed but he makes amends on BTW and SA.

Yes Linkin Park was a failure but when you work with 40 artists you are not going to get good chemistry with everyone. Cherrypicking there Johnny, is like saying Kanye is a bad producer because NASIR failed with Nas. His 10s output also had some huge hits with Adele-21, Lana Del Ray and Kanye which again showcase my point that he is his versatile. I'm not saying he is God's gift.

| bighubbabuddha Rick Rubin literally revolutionised hip-hop production with LL Cool J, Public Enemy and Beastie Boys, his contribution to Thrash is underappreciated with Slayer, he forged RHCP and System of a Down into the mainstream, produced the best prog rock album of the 21st century with The Mars Volta and resurrected Cash's career. Probably the most versatile producer of the last 40 years
