| DrGonzo1937 just in case youre interested mate.https://www.sputnikmusic.com/blog/2024/02/04/dir-en-grey-a-diagnosis-from-a-faux-doctor/
| Thank you, Evo! That must have been a great concert, by the way.
| manosg Moving can be really tiresome and stressful, so all the best in that! I'm in a similar position as far as lack of time is concerned. My second child was born just a few days ago and I had to build an extra room in my house during the summer, in order to accommodate everyone and my office. Additionally, for some reason, I rarely listen to new music, so thanks for the rec! Album hits hard.
| manosg No, I am not familiar with Lord of Shadows, but I am checking it right now and liking it. Some impressive guests as well. Aaron Stainthorpe can do no wrong.
| manosg Hey Evo, I am doing fine my friend! Real life has kicked in for good, so I am not as active on here as I would like, but all is well. How about you?
| manosg Nice, happy for you dude. Also, great Saturnus rating :)
| manosg Ugh, tell me about it. Work and family have completely taken over my life right now, haha. Glad to hear that you've attended a number of concerts. Which ones were the best?
| manosg Hey, Evo! I am doing fine my friend, how about you? No I haven't heard LiveWire but the comparison to Riot City and the band name which brings to my mind the AC/DC song are enough for me to check these guys!
| Kusangii They're a fairly unknown band shockingly enough. It's a shame, they should be huge. They have such a unique sound that really stands out. Their 2011 album is amazing too.
| Kusangii Glad you enjoyed it so much! I haven't gotten through it in full yet, it's so extremely intense and long haha. Gonna need to give it my full attention soon. First song is mindblowing.
| Kusangii Hey man, just figured I'd recommend you the new Imperial Circus Dead Decadence album, since you dig the japanese metal stuffs
| Jasdevi087 I'd have to ask him, might've even just been fellowship
| Jasdevi087 i think it was second hand and he spent about $200 or something on it. i remember it being expensive
| Jasdevi087 one of my friends has that lotr soundtrack boxset
| manosg Indeed, it's one of the albums I considered reviewing. Definitely needs multiple listens to fully appreciate, but it's quite rewarding.
| manosg Yup, know the feeling. Just saw your Sur Austru rating. Great album. Been meaning to review it, but had very little time, unfortunately.
| manosg Hello my friend! I'm doing great! Had a nice Christmas with the family and now back in my daily schedule of work and family, albeit with a little less work than usual, which is very welcome. How about you?
| Pon Only just dawned on me that you've been back for a minute, how you been dude?
| parksungjoon its ok u did good, theres a lot of dupe pages and bad album entries on this site
| parksungjoon damn i am dumb as **** i thought no one knew about Ningen Isu on sput when i saw that dewinged added only one album, turns out there was a page with a hyphen in it that i didnt know about.... i added all those ****in albums for nothing mannnnn
| DrGonzo1937 thanks for that man. the listing you've sent me says i can't get it though coz the seller has been blocked for not meeting the site's conditions or something :/ anywhere else?
| DrGonzo1937 Alright man. Do you know of anywhere I can attain a first press copy of uroboros r
| OmairSh That's good man. There were places that were still telling their staff to come, but a few days ago most places have closed down. Its better to take proactive measures. Hoping the whole situation gets resolved quickly enough. Cool dude, hope you enjoy. To make things easier I'd say at the min, check 2, 4, 5, 7.
| OmairSh Yoo Evo, how've you been dude? Crazy corona times we're living in eh. Things are getting stricter day by day. I have a new Pakistani music list up, thought you might enjoy a few of the songs :-) https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=191063
| manosg Happy New Year, Evo! All the best my friend!
| OmairSh Good to hear man, yeah I'm well too. Started a new job recently and settling in. Yeah man my activity's been sporadic here recently haha. I've been keeping busy with stuff like kickboxing and improv. I recorded a few improv videos in case you're interested https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=673174
| OmairSh Yo Evo how've you been man? It's been a while
| IronyIsADeadScene Obviously opinions vary, but what I mean is that it's likely downhill from here. A return to form is possible, but rather unlikely.
| IronyIsADeadScene It's no surprise the DEG threads are dead; the band's obviously over the hill at this point with that last album. If it had been worth a damn I'd probably have stuck around more.
| DrGonzo1937 I'm good man. Why the lack of activity? Ain't go no one else to Dir it up with!
| DrGonzo1937 how's it going evo? haven't heard from you and calc much.
| WretchedCacophony Sounds like their better albums from around 2000. Solid, heavy band.
| DrGonzo1937 I can't remember if I asked you for this favour, but if you get a hold of diru's new album on the day could you do me a solid and send it over to me. I know for a fact I won't get hold of my physical copy for at least a week and I need to get the review up for it. Very much appreciated if you do, my brotha.
| Angelboros Holy s***, haven't spoke with you in some time! Well, I've seen parts of that show actually, but I'd like to view the whole thing in one sitting. Fire away.
| DrGonzo1937 Evo, I'm laking around for a DSS boxset. you know anywhere that does it for a fair price?
| DrGonzo1937 Never got around to playing that one. Loved demon/dark souls, but never got to bloodbourne or dark souls 3.... yet. Haha
| DrGonzo1937 Ahh good to see you're still with us. Got worried you weren't on here anymore haha
| DrGonzo1937 You still with us my friend? Haven't seen ya for ages. Hope you're well
| IhateMana Good evening my favourite twink! hey, i have no idea where the **** Romanov or w/e backwater european pornset it is you live in is called, but i'm sure it's the kind of place where that much Prog on your piechart is acceptable! in which case, keep me the **** away from it and I hope North Korea bombs it in WWIIIsincerely, Maynard James Keenan
| BigPleb Legend! Is it worth the wait?
| manosg It's almost an hour by car and more than two hours by public transport. Not too far but not too close. But yeah, as you said it's pros and cons. Living close to the sea is awesome, especially during summer :)
| manosg The place looks really really nice! This is one of the benefits of living in the city, all the different cool places you can find. A few years ago, I moved in the suburbs and although I love living close to nature and the sea, I kinda miss these places.
| manosg Had to google what a steampunk themed place is, goes to show you haha! Nice concept though. Personally, I've been quite busy lately with work, maybe a bit more that I would like to but can't complain. Actually, I always forget to mention it but my largest client's European offices are located in Bucharest and Cluj! But this has kept me away from Sput, I kinda lost touch with few of the new guys on here.
| manosg Hey Evo, we haven't chatted for a long time buddy. How's everything?
| Chamberbelain Cheers mate. Should have another by Saturday maybe.
| DrGonzo1937 amn fine work evo. will check when I finish work. what you think overall?
| DrGonzo1937 Oh, I appreciate their advocation to the physical side of music, but everywhere else supports the consumer with a download of it to tide you over. Hope I get it next week. I've heard all the remakes and I'm ready to lay the word down, depending on how the other songs go. haha
| DrGonzo1937 Gah. It's so annoying haha. They need to learn to give instant download when you purchase their album physically imo. It's the same every time and you have to wait about two week before you can even hear it in full.
| DrGonzo1937 evo, my man, tell me you have the diru best-of to send to us. haha I'm still waiting on my physical copy, and the scallies don't do download codes while you wait. I'm planning on reivew this thing, like.
| manosg Happy new year Evo, wish you all the best!
| manosg Hey Evo, hope you're having great holidays. Glad to see you enjoyed Heavy Sentence :)
| DrGonzo1937 Yeah, he mentions that in his biography. Pretty strange, like. haha
| manosg Absolutely! For some weird reason, it felt refreshing to come across something so similar but so well performed. And it doesn't bother me that it sound so much like A4 because there aren't any albums around that sound much like A4.
| manosg Really glad you enjoyed the album, Evo!
| manosg That's interesting; the guys over there are less generous with ratings than on here. I will probably give it a shot during the weekend but that one song just rubbed me the wrong way. But then again it's Anneke so it has to be at least tolerable.
| manosg Yes, she was super kind and down to earth. She seemed to be handling very well the extra attention she was getting, especially bearing in mind that she was maybe the most popular female vocalist in metal at the time. I actually haven't heard the new Vuur apart from that one song that they released a couple of months ago. Is it any good?
| manosg If I remember correctly, I saw Metallica in the summer supported by Monster Magnet, The Gathering just a few days after Anathema's concert, a few Greek acts and was planning on going to that year's Rockwave Festival which had an awesome lineup but didn't make it. The Gathering's live especially was the best I've ever been. The band was amazing and we got to meet the guys (and girl) after the show.
| manosg Nice. Are you planning on attending other concerts this year?
| manosg Sweet. I had the chance to see them back in the day when they were touring for A4 but had already gone to a few concerts at the time and was low on cash. For years, I was thinking of that lost chance. I am sure that they can still give one hell of a show.
| manosg That's awesome Evo! How was the overall experience? Did they play any pre-Judgement material?
| necropig Ordered a darkthrone LP and when it came to shipping they realised they didn't have it. DSS was the same price so got instead
| manosg Nice, will check at some point. In other news, also enjoying my weekend, watching basketball and doing some gardening before the week starts and limits my free time to a minimum haha.
| manosg Hey Evo! What is up? No, I haven't and the last few Anathema albums didn't create this urge for me to check it which might be a bit unfair towards Danny. Is it different than what he has been releasing lately with Anathema?
| DrGonzo1937 "Glass Skin" as well. haha In fact, it's hard to pick really. But yeah, they're my highlights. Yours?
| DrGonzo1937 I'm the kinda guy that likes his bass chubby as ****, and I thought it lacked any weight at all. "Kaiga, when silence sleeps" always gets me (so beautiful live); same with "Ware, Yami Tote...", just flawless pieces; "Red Soil"; and "Stuck Man" were my jams.
| DrGonzo1937 Yeah, as expected, it's amazing. Only criticism I have is Toshiya's bass tone is abysmal. haha
| DrGonzo1937 Aye, send us a link, bud. Uroboros has downloaded and works, gonna jam this s*** now.
| DrGonzo1937 Insanity for what it is, really. Although, their packaging is always First Class. I occasionally hang over Amazon for DIR EN GREY stuff. I got the deluxe of The Unraveling for £22 last week! Macabre is worth that price of admission alone!
| DrGonzo1937 Wow, didn't know that! It was on Japanese-Discoveries. That explains why it wasn't on Yesasia.
| DrGonzo1937 Aye, it's downloading slowly, but all good. I was tempted to buy it, but it's £80. Just can't justify that kind of coin being released on a DVD anymore. haha
| DrGonzo1937 Legendary. Cheers Evo, you're the best. Can't wait to tuck into this.
| DrGonzo1937 Oh, Jesus, you'll have to give me a heads up when Uro lands!
| Orb yeah man, they had some really cool ideas going, and I honestly loved the drumme'rs abuse of snare rolls.
| Ovrot alright thanks, i'll start with those then
| Ovrot Calc said you can point me to the best NINGEN ISU album eh?
| GreyShadow Just had to confirm with you that when I saw AFI the AOD stuff was amazing. Malleus was the only song that felt a bit butchered (a bit too slow, you could tell they hadn't played it in forever) but I was way too happy to care.
| manosg Thank you for that, had no idea! It seems and sounds very promising, especially Tomi's participation. Gonna be heart-wrenching though.
| manosg hah gonna check it for sure!
| manosg I should also try Solitude Dominance Tragedy. I remember seeing it on magazines when I was younger and still remember its cover art today. Have you checked it?
| manosg Exactly. Flair is certainly the correct term. Gotta love it when prog has those emotional and catchy elements but things don't get too melodramatic.
| manosg I'm back! And yes, In Search Of Truth is such an awesome listen. Why hadn't I checked it before?
| cosmopazz http://poleyounger.bandcamp.com/album/polo-youngings-has-died-in-a-car-crash
| manosg Hey Evo! How's everything? I dig it but I'm not crazy about it. Do the guitars bring to mind the Icon/Draconian period or is it just my idea?
| DrGonzo1937 yeah, no doubt medusa will reach a 4.5 after a few jams.
| DrGonzo1937 awh, nice one. jamming now. it's different. haha
| manosg hahaha what is it this year with the early leaks? At least they're solid albums even though, overall, I might prefer 2016 compared to 2017 at this point.
| manosg Nice. Is it turning out to be heavier than The Plague Within?
| manosg I was actually going to shoutbox you about Lacrimas Profundere haha! It's one of those albums that if I had been jamming back in the '90s I'd 4.5 in a heartbeat. Going to check the rest of their discog but I think we have found a gem here.
| manosg For sure! This is the Theatre of Tragedy connection right there.
| manosg Indeed and he's not interested in continuing his career as a musician let alone resurrect Theatre of Tragedy which is a shame but at least he got to tour with Liv which is pretty awesome.
| manosg Sweet, will definitely check. In the meantime, I just stumbled upon this today and needles to say I love it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1dHe0pnrUc
| manosg Just saw it yesterday but haven't checked it yet. Any significant differences compared to the original?
| manosg Oh yeah. it's very good. Besides the songwriting, I really like Holmes' performance on that album. I'd say it's my second favorite after One Second which I've been enjoying even more lately.
| manosg Yup, I checked the BIN remake and even though I'm not a big fan of the song the remake sounds a bit better to my ears. Also, is a band called Brokencyde representative of crunkcore? Man, even funnier than the music are the lyrics and the guys themselves hahaha.
| manosg Checked the new Cradle of Filth track, Evo? Not bad at all. Also, what is crunkcore lol?
| Kusangii Yeah, that's the spirit. Most genres probably has something to offer indeed, it's just really difficult to find all those bands that clicks with you personally. That crunkcore genre sounds awful though, not gonna lie lol
| Kusangii Just my honest opinion man, haha. You seem to dig every single sub-genre of metal out there, which is quite rare to see. ^^
| Kusangii You have probably the coolest taste of all time. Just figured I had to tell you that.
| manosg Thanks, Evo! Doom metal with Vampirella on the cover? I'm definitely checking it.
| manosg Looks beautiful, Evo. Really need to buy a turntable at some point but I'm afraid it's going to ruin my finances haha. Do you have a lot of LPs?
| manosg ugh that sucks. But a remake from BIN as a bonus track could be very interesting and surprising at the same time haha.
| manosg Can these guys even disappoint? It's not easy succeeding an album like The Plague Within but if Medusa is almost as good I will be very very happy.
| manosg lol it's dangerous to try to change anything on this site anymore. I really hope something changes at some point and things don't get worse.
| manosg Exactly! I grew up with classic rock (among other '90s stuff of course) and I find it very hard to accept more modern stuff like these guys or Volbeat who I checked last year, for example. But I will continue trying and who knows I might be able to get some enjoyment at least. Worst case scenario is improving my objectivity haha.
| manosg hehe, stumbled upon it on Deezer and I thought to give it a go. It's not bad at all and it does have it fair share of fun but I just can't digest modern rock so much it seems haha. But I definitely understand why someone may like it.
| DrGonzo1937 Could you send us it again laaaaa? I'll try again.
| manosg Arcana Coelestia, iirc, was in one of those doom tournaments people used to organize (which I miss) and I checked it back then but can't remember how much I enjoyed it.
| manosg Hey Evo! Yeah, I checked Edguy who I should have checked 20 years ago haha, They were predictably solid. I also want to listen to Sorni Nai at some point because of your description which I am sure I will enjoy.
| DrGonzo1937 Aye, only Diru can sound like Diru; nothing will match it. But I'll take a Kyo project that offers something with a level of substance. I think you should review it.BTW, is the site being hellishly slow for you, or is it just my s***e works computer?
| DrGonzo1937 I didn't say sounding DIR EN GREY, I said is it the same level of quality. haha But will definitely check it tonight. Your description certainly has me interested.
| DrGonzo1937 Oh, wow. If you say it's legit, send it my way, mate. DIR EN GREY quality?
| DrGonzo1937 Oh, wow. If you say it's legit, send it my way, mate. DIR EN GREY quality?
| manosg It's like these girls which are super cute but nothing more than that. I am okay with the lack of progress from Motorhead and AC/DC but Anathema was so much more than that for me. Sorry buddy I knew my soundoff would frustrate you but had to get it out of my system ;)
| manosg hehe I knew you would message me! You know that I really like these guys Evo and I rarely bother bashing bands which I'm not emotionally connected with. But I've been jamming the album for quite a while now and the only feelings I get are slight boredom and frustration. Not because it's a bad album but because it feels so safe. I compare them with MDB, Paradise Lost, Amorphis, even The Gathering and Theatre of Tragedy and this makes their lack of taking chances even more frustrating.
| manosg Same here. Checked Into the Electric Castle in the past but didn't love it and their last one this week and found it pretty funny because a lot of melodies reminded me of The Gentle Storm.
| manosg Yup. Loved the vocals but the instrumentation didn't impress me much, felt a bit ordinary. Definitely stoked though! Did you have the chance to check the new Ayreon?
| Flugmorph come to discord breh: https://discord.gg/AkxdUX
| Flugmorph i wasnt to hot on it on first listen tbh :(
| Flugmorph how do you like the new birthday massacre record man :3
| manosg Mandylion and The Angel are both solid recs, I'll definitely think about them. Gutter Ballet has a really good review and it would be a shame to get the flag because of a tag. You're also right on the money with the new Anathema. Not impressed even though I've only checked it once. They've been doing the same thing for so long and I don't know if I can give them a pass this time. I mean everything is well-composed and performed but these guys used to be so adventurous.
| manosg Also, love that Loreena McKennitt rating!
| manosg I wanna say yes but I really don't know. I am afraid I wrote my anniversary review a bit too early in the form of Velvet Darkness They Fear haha. But definitely thinking about it. Any suggestions?
| manosg Yeah do check it, it's not bad by any means.
| manosg lol thanks for the correction Evo! It's not a bad album but nothing special either to me despite its influences. It kinda reminded me of Spiritual Beggars' latest LP.
| manosg This is a good point haha. I would love to learn if these guys are trolling people like me or actually believe that they are making music. Truth is I had years to listen to something as atrocious as this album haha.
| DrGonzo1937 Have to admit, I was expecting a 2 from it myself. I need to check the Kimmel show they did, I've heard it's decent.
| DrGonzo1937 Yeah, I know what you mean. I haven't had much time to go on the computer lately, so I have a backlog of albums i need to check. haha I also listened to the new LP album though; really not that bad, surprisingly. Not good either, mind!
| DrGonzo1937 Cheers bud! Nah, I don't think he does haha must be a coincidence! How's it going?
| DrGonzo1937 New track of mine dropped today if you wanna check it buddy? Let us know what you think.https://deepsands.bandcamp.com/album/theuntitledshortcuthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToTBX8HR4tA
| Flugmorph oh boi that looks neat, im gonna read that
| Flugmorph dude why are you not in our discord server btw
| manosg Indeed, I wasn't very happy with the electro track on Distant Satellites. I will be content if there's at least some variety throughout the album. Not expecting a new A4 or Judgement, they're way past that but at least give us some variety, a sense of adventure. But I trust your opinion and especially when it comes to these guys so I'm feeling eager to check the album.
| manosg Awesome, gonna check asap. It seems that these guys can do no wrong, with various degrees of success ofc.
| manosg I found it more commercial and less adventurous, but at the same time more catchy. Can't say if I enjoyed it more or less but I certainly liked it more than I expected. I see you've rated the new Anathema! How does it sound?
| Angelboros Hey, Havok Engine, what's this I'm hearing bout a new Diru song that was played live?
| DrGonzo1937 My band's new song is out today if you wanna check it out, my friend! Let us know what you think.https://deepsands.bandcamp.com/album/theuntitledshortcut
| kascetcadettt here's a thread where you can discuss how fantastic it is to be a part of this moment: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=174557 \\\ don't be scared to share the news with other guys in case i missed someone out and keep shining in the light of this beautiful rock n roll fireplate, god bless, hasanmedia represent
| kascetcadettt sieg hi it's-a me smooth brotha from the umpteenth block taggin' em trainz comin' from your favorite station, word on the street is (artuma is gay) my new album came out recently and if that's the last thing i ever do let it be, leavin' the link in your hands my man: http://poleyounger.bandcamp.com/album/go-daylight \\\ feel FREE to 1 it if u didn't like my agressive self promotion campaign, feel FREE to thank me if this album saved your life
| manosg haha yeah, I wanted to like the album more given the style of music they play but it just let something to be desired; maybe a truly standout track. Let's hope they fix that on their debut LP.
| AcmeApathyAmok Yeah, I had the Mode Of series downloaded but haven't watched them all until recently. Nothing short of amazing, especially Mode of Kisou which was my favorite of the three.
| 50iL Ima hit up Soulseek, they're prob on there
| 50iL He hasn't, but I've heard about them. I've wanted to download their discog for some time now.
| 50iL Yes haha, thanks mane
| 50iL Dis is my first DEG album :3
| 50iL CalculatingInfinity hitting me up wit dat gud s***
| DrGonzo1937 Ahh got ya, I thought you meant you had em all up there for stream. Cheers for the DSS stream anyway.
| DrGonzo1937 All three?only Dss streamed, the other two wouldn't? It's cool haha it was good enough for me like
| DrGonzo1937 Was it? haha Well, cheers man. But yeah, I streamed that link for DSS that Calc sent us from the site; couldn't do it with the others though.
| DrGonzo1937 Oh, it was something else, dude! Calc gave me the other two, but they aren't stream and they won't play on my player....
| manosg Not yet but it's definitely a priority. Been jamming the new Mastodon though and liking it even though I'm not a big fan of the band.
| manosg Definitely. It's a shame that albums like this one or Thy Catafalque went unreviewed last year.
| manosg Great choice, Evo! It's got those sincere '90s doom/gothic vibes we both love. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
| manosg I admire your perseverance, Evo! Personally, I couldn't watch more than a few minutes. Just wish there was a clear/non-360 version somewhere on YT just to watch the collaboration with Anneke.
| manosg Oh yeah, loooved listening to Anneke singing like that. There are also a couple of videos of the concert on YouTube but their quality is so poor which is a shame because the album sounds more like a gathering of friends rather than a typical concert.
| manosg Haven't read the review yet but I'll let you know when I do. Have these guys released anything worth jamming?
| manosg haha these guys a getting annihilated on here and the Greek edition of Metal Hammer gave them a rating of 7/10. Dunno what to think about it.
| manosg lol curious to see what's your next rating
| manosg Oh yeah, when you're in a fun cheesy mood Rhapsody is one of the better choices out there. Checked any great album lately, Evo?
| manosg Hey Evo, how is everything? Have you checked An Evening with Friends at Huvila by Amorphis? Even though I'm not the biggest fan of their post-Tuonela stuff, I have it on replay the last few days.
| Xenorazr Thanks, and I definitely intend to keep them coming in full supply!
| danielcardoso Thanks man, lol yeah he has stuff coming out real soon :]
| ramon. Thanks bro, really appreciate it!
| manosg Thank you Evo, much appreciate it!
| manosg Finally checked Thy Catafalque - Meta and it's excellent. So varied and with so many interesting moments but quite accessible at the same time.
| manosg Merry Christmas, Evo! All the best to you and your loved ones.
| necropig Merry Christmas! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
| Flugmorph thx you glorious goth lover, same to you and heres for another great year on sputnik :)
| manosg Right back at ya! Yeah I rarely find albums that transport me back to my teen days and TG25: Live at Doornroosje did exactly this. I'm eager to see where the band goes from there. Seeing your list, I really need to check Thy Catafalque and Emma Ruth Rundle. Only thing that bothers me with Thy Catafalque is the industrial tag. Are the industrial elements very evident on their album?
| manosg I actually expected to enjoy it more than From Afar but I didn't. I'm quite new to Ensiferum though so my ratings may change. Have you checked Caladan Brood - Echoes of Battle? I listened to it a couple of times in 2013 when it came out and I'm jamming it now. I can't see it in your ratings so if you haven't already checked it, it's highly recommended.
| manosg Yes, I can live with that a bit more. Dunno if you're into black metal but I've been jamming this album quite a bit lately. It was released in April and flew under the radar but I just love its atmosphere and the guitar playing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zp0ll6iuvSM
| manosg I presume you say my soundoff for the new Volbeat lol. I found it okay instrumentally, but I felt that it was completely devoid of soul. To be completely honest though, I just heard the album once.
| manosg Those damn falsettos are so ridiculous haha. I don't even know if the singer was trolling or doing those falsettos because he actually thought they were benefiting the music.
| DrGonzo1937 Yeah, the one where he breaks down is just...ugh, the chills.
| DrGonzo1937 I take it back, Tousei is probably fave from the album and it ****ing blew the set out of the water live; unbelievable.
