| Sowing I had absolutely no idea a new song was out lmao, excited to check it out and will be doing so shortly.
| Sowing Is that a tease for a new song!?
| SlothcoreSam I've only checked a handful myself, My main source for discovering new music has been terminated by Spotify during the guy behind it. Check my last list. Saying that, the new Glass Beach album is really good. Check it.
| SlothcoreSam Yo, Yoyo check, Fear Not Ourselves Alone - DEAD DOG PARADISE (OR LIFE LIKE PARASITES???). The last 4 tracks are the best run of sings this year, bet need to be heard in context of the album as a whole.
| SlothcoreSam Yeah it popped up on my radar, it's fun countryish sounding, excited for a new release
| Sowing You're not wrong! I noped out after the singles did very little for me, but now I'm regretting it because the album is excellent. I believe fogza will be stepping up, however.
| Shamus248 Thank you for the kind words on Sowing's august list
| Sowing fantasy draft 6pm EST today
| Manatea Yeah it?s true. I?ll try to put some footage up on sput. Its pretty cringe but i gotta show my stuff you know?
| Sowing You play fantasy football or nah?
| Manatea Yayyyy. I finally got behind a kit for the first time in two years and thought of you. I was rusty af tho?
| Manatea Idk if you like Johnny Booth but get ready bruv
| Sowing I've never desired anything more from a band as utterly flawless and godlike as DT, but I'll check Overgrown anyway ;-)
| SlothcoreSam Pumped for the review, EP is the best since the debut. Hopefully it gets a lot of attention around here. Oh and J said you guys are doing some shows with SSoH! Wish I could make it.
| SlothcoreSam You were right about the Overgrow EP. 4 perfect emo gems.
| Sowing Yeah, that was already one of my favorite DT melodies, so to hear it re-worked and arguably even better was awesome. It's such a lovely little EP, our whole family listened to it yesterday afternoon while enjoying the summer-like weather (where we live, anyway). I didn't know the basement flood backstory before -- I'm glad it didn't set you guys back too badly in terms of making music. Keep up the great work!
| SlothcoreSam I've only heard the one single so far and it was stellar.
| Ryus lol some of us realized that, with a little help from our friend html, the mods have no actual powers to close lists on this ramshackle site
| SlothcoreSam Yeah it's a good direction they are going in, hope they can keep it up. By the way your weekly rec is the new GEZAN record. You'll either love it or hate it.
| Kompys2000 yoyo happy to have you on staff!! cya on olymups!
| JesperL "AJR Living Room 0.5" so proud you are using those staff powers for the greater good
| brainmelter DAMN WE HAVE DISTRICT 6 ON STAFF NOW OK THEN
| Pangea YoYo make sure to check your secret santa pairing on discord!
| LotionLord Found Domestic Terminal around the same time I went on vacation to Tennessee this summer and ICSMS really resonated with me around that time, especially The Second Chicago Fire. So thanks a ton. This isn't the end, just an intermission.
| demigod! whats been good this year?? i havent been following new music too much
| Minortimbo12 what would happen if micheal jackson didnt exist
| SlothcoreSam Yoyo, you need to check fellow Sput user PitchForkArms new album ASAP. Somewhere South of Here- Leave me for the crows. It's awesome, you guys should tour together.
| Pangea Hi Yoyo, do you have a song for sotd? the theme is nature https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=200646
| Rowan5215 agreed. it feels a little unfinished but doesn't it have a lower average than How I Got Over and Rising Down? absolutely baffling
| Rowan5215 dude fr. Tipping Point is one of my favourites overall, never understood the hate for it. Star, Guns Are Drawn and Web are all-timers. Phrenology kinda isn't good lol
| Rowan5215 ah gotcha. tbh it's not great so I wouldn't worry too much, The Roots Come Alive is essential tho
| Rowan5215 enjoy! I'm guessing you skipped Organix which was a good move no-one acknowledges that album
| Koris For sure. And I'm aware that my review was really hyperbolic and emotionally driven, but it just felt right for me to go with that approach. I felt personally attacked by the lyrics and vox on the album, but in a good way lol
| Ecnalzen Look at you guys, all up on the trending albums and stuff!
| Koris Absolutely. That one-two punch of Arm's Length and Pathetic at the end is so damn good
| JohnnyoftheWell WOA I found my CD copy of Grievances yesterday (but not the case) is this fate um yeah Cosmology slaps and is silly wooo
| Koris Also, if you ever wanna collaborate musically, let me know. I'm gonna be a lot more active with my music when I get out to San Diego, since the location change will give me a lot more opportunities to network and promote my stuff :]
| Sowing Interesting -- I love that song but it probably wouldn't be in my top 10 personally. I won't comment on it much further, because I'd rather you have a reason to check out the list when it drops! FWIW, my favorites have so much to do with the kinds of memories I've attached to them. All 26 songs are objectively very good, even the 'Melt' intro plays its role perfectly.
| Sowing (cont'd-damn character limits) -- I used my 2012 Yellowcard Souther Air review as inspiration to write something lyrically/thematically centered but that still touched on as many aspects of the music as I could within the natural flow of the written prose. That was partially because my reaction to Stories reminded me of my reaction to Southern Air. Anyway, speaking of trying to include a mention of every song, I'm hoping to do an "every DT song ranked" list next weekish, so stay tuned for that!
| Sowing Thanks lol, I appreciate you saying that. I struggled a bit on my earliest draft with what I was trying to convey about the record's themes, but once I decided (correctly or not) that the narrator was singing to himself on 'To The Touch' ("I wanna feel you, I wanna hear you, I wanna touch you / So tear me down"), the rest fell into place and the review basically wrote itself. It's a bit long, but I really wanted every song to get a mention because they're all stellar.
| Sowing It looks totally clear on mine. Once it gets featured and we get to view the full sized artwork, that'll be the moment of truth lol.
| Sowing Actually scratch that, I might have just fixed it. Does it look better to you now?
| Sowing I've uploaded the artwork a few different times, always looking super pristine and clear at first, but then the moment it touches our site it looks blurry. This isn't the case for other images I upload and I can't figure out why; usually you don't lose quality by scaling down (I've been taking it down to 500x500 because that's all the uploader can handle). If you have an alternate file I can try that, but otherwise I'm not totally sure why it looks bad.
| Sowing Yeah I'm not even sure why they're calling it an EP. It's good, I slightly preferred Dream Journal, but both are growers. The new one can be, for lack of a better word...silly? Whimsical? There's some unexpected stuff some of which pays off and some of which doesn't, but it's good to hear Mason letting loose a little because so much of Shrine and Dream Journal were bleak beyond belief -- I was starting to get worried about him!
| Sowing Good timing, I just finished up with the promo for Mason's Souveneer EP. ;-) Roger what you said in the LP2PK, all standard stuff and we can skip what we'd previously discussed for the reveal.
| Sowing Nope. I'm too excited for the new DT to let anything else on my radar. In all seriousness though, I should, because she rules.
| JohnnyoftheWell oh damn good q ! it's basically an extension of hard/soft 3.5ing things (etc) - ctrl f "4.8" on this for a full infodump, but basically I only use a ltd range of increments so that i can group stuff together intuitively, unless it's a review (in which case the rating gets a one-off overthink, and my archival rating will later change if it's not one of the ones i usually use): https://www.sputnikmusic.com/blog/2022/02/12/staff-wars-johnnyofthewell/
| Pangea Yoyo, you have a song for this month's sotd? the theme is comeback songs. https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=200084
| MarsKid I actually liked parts of their last one, but they're on the verge of losing me completely. Homie has zero singing range.
| MarsKid Sick Pianos soundoff right there
| JohnnyoftheWell Mmm I read this half asleep and it went straight to my subconscious and I forgot to reply, but mmm this was vaguely my Vibe - lotta cymbal hits also felt eerily consistent, but I wouldn't swear by that. Now spin Souls at Zero and Glitch Princess until you can think of nothing else and 5 both immediately nice
| JohnnyoftheWell YOLO can i get a snap take on the drums on this here one-man project how much weight is this boi pulling https://i-voidhangerrecords.bandcamp.com/album/consecration-of-the-spiritu-s-flesh
| Sowing appreciating chalk dust on a new level now. all your stuff usually takes a while to hit, but when it does, cotdamn. song just went from great to borderline perfect in my book.
| Sowing thanks for the rec; I'll chec
| Sowing We were talking about what constitutes butt rock in the Anberlin Lowborn thread and I was trying to think of s***ty radio music that was played at frat parties back when I was in college. Once I remembered they existed, I couldn't resist the chance to boost my objectivity.
| Sowing The album? Congrats! That's very exciting news.
| ffs jeez dude shucks
| theBoneyKing Sweet man, I may try to prioritize writing up They Spent when my schedule clears up in a few weeks.
| Sowing I'm not sure I know what you're referring to. I have all the emails but I can't seem to locate it. I'm probably just technologically deficient!
| theBoneyKing In all honesty I was mostly kidding about that and would just be happy for them to have a review. If I ever do get around to it They Spent would be the one I'd want to cover but if that's your preferred too then by all means go ahead! :D
| Sowing Yes thank god. It was the length I was worried about.
| Sowing I had a dream that the new Domestic Terminal was exactly 28 minutes long and was just the same acoustic chord being strummed over and over again with a harpsichord, and I ****ing hated it but didn't know how to tell you.
| Ecnalzen Very nice! Looking forward to hearing it!
| Ecnalzen I see. That scenario makes all the sense. Cool, thanks for sharing! You have a timeline on the new one yet or just sometime this year is the plan?
| Ecnalzen Just out of curiosity, why did those 2 songs not make the album, nor find their way to the new one, but instead get their own lil release? I have always wondered what goes into those kinda decisions
| Sowing Totally understand that, music is anything but rigid. Whenever the time comes just get in contact with me and we'll make stuff happen!
| Sowing I know that it's still a ways off until the new LP drops, but let me know if you want to do an exclusive stream reveal or something around that time. I'd be happy to embed a YouTube stream into the blog or something like that. If you have better or more high profile opportunities you should absolutely pursue them, but keep it in mind. Also, I'd be stoked for a promo to review the album when the time comes too, if you're okay with me reviewing it instead of one of the site's top writers.
| Sowing A summer release? **** YES. That will fit the vibe of your music perfectly.
| Ecnalzen Heck yea, fella! I am excited to hear more from you guys
| Storm In A Teacup yoyo its all good and nothing to worry about! i was referencing in last two or three years having fun in a thread making fun of bands and you hit me with a direct zinger lol
| JesperL new basement revolver album ****s, think you'd dig as well!
| JohnnyoftheWell don't talk to the answerphone we are not taking messages today
| JohnnyoftheWell it's not the best song on the album nvm soty u hapless postrock baby this is the answerphone
| JesperL siick, omw to read your rev!!
| Rowan5215 totally just shot my shot with asking for a promo and it worked. I can't even publish the review until two days before release so idk why Warner sent out advance copies so early lol. no complaints tho
| Titan beat it! you crack me up dude lol
| twlight Have you heard of thriller?
| Ryus ayy nice 5 haha its ridiculous and so unique. one of my all time faves for sure. glad u dug
| JesperL hey hello check the bliss fields record if you want some good 2022 music!!
| Feather Is Domestic Terminal your band btw? Creeping on your conversation with Sowing so I checked the album out. Really digging the sound!
| Sowing I sent you the questions. Thanks for agreeing to be a part of things!
| Feather If you?re being serious, congrats on the soon to be achieved license. A decade on this site and I still can?t tell what is and isn?t real
| Feather The hero we needed jumping in and saving the ETID thread
| Sowing Awesome! Can't wait to listen! Can you send an email to sowingsputnik@gmail.com simply identifying yourself, and from there I will get the ball rolling with a questionnaire? Thanks.
| Sowing I'm thinking of starting a blog series that will spotlight the musicians of Sputnik. Ideally, I'd like to include a mini-interview/questionnaire alongside song snippets and band info such as discography, genre(s), and general bio info. Would you be interested in doing this? Also, would you want it to highlight Domestic Terminal, or Adjy, or both as separate posts? Let me know if you're game for something like that, it's still very much a fetus of an idea.
| JohnnyoftheWell wow it is my real self and i hate it. awesome. let's change our disp names!!!
| JohnnyoftheWell I did the maths and u are officially "my soy anus coos" now, do me (no generator!)
| Sowing Oh nice. I'm going to wait to transfer it until I'm at my desktop and not just on my phone. Excited to listen!
| SlothcoreSam Yo, YoYoMancuso! Have you got a song for us for SONG OF THE DAY? We only have 3 spots left to get a full month with no 2nd recs! This months theme is, Your Personal Entrance Theme, what song do you want playing when you enter a building, show up to work, a party etc, whatever you want. https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=197614
| xxm (Cont.) is simply brilliant and beautiful.
| xxm I made a few comments over there but it does bear repeating in this case your review of You?d Prefer an Astronaut
| Rowan5215 imo it's the thematic linchpin of the album and the moment where the drums first kick in is top tier. it got eclipsed by Space Between as my favourite but still easy top 5. also AGPOL has been keeping me sane in lockdown and I have to thank you for that
| Rowan5215 hell yeah it does, although Space Between the Pages is the song that wrecks me fully every time
| Sowing Ah, you noticed that? I was figuring with how few people call me "SowingSeason" that it would go months undiscovered lol
| Atari Nice 5 for Commit This to Memory. Revisiting that album and it?s really hitting the spot rn
| MetalMarcJK Hey, dude...wanted to listen to something random today so I did a random scroll and point in my library. Wound up listening to ?I Could See Midnight Sky?. Still some great stuff, man. This was the first non-jazz music I?ve listened to in almost three weeks.
| Sowing Thanks YoYo much appreciated
| JesperL hell yeah dude, sweet! i also recommend checking 'anymore', come down and dryness from that one are all time gleemer gr8s (also the album cover is perfect hehe)
| tyman128 yo absolutely!! really loving it and considering bumping it to a 4.5, going through it again right now to see if it hits that 4.5 spot
| Sowing That's awesome to hear! I literally did not stop listening to the album for 4 days straight, so I appreciate you guys creating an album worth binging on. Any thoughts regarding a future follow-up?
| xxm Congratulations on contributor! Nice AJR rant by the way.
| Ecnalzen I think Sowing has taken my DT super fan mantle. It was a good run
| Atari congrats on that shiny new contributor tag!
| Ecnalzen Hey hey, saw you got dat contrib status. Very nice!
| evilford Ayyyyy congrats on contrib bro!
| anat dude nice! reminds me of braid at first listen - will properly imbibe when i am able
| anat thank you so much dude that means a lot!
| Colton no problem, and don't mind budgie being a dick lol
| Rowan5215 dammit. don't tell my cool friends I like Weezer please. I have a family
| evilford Niiiice dude. Crazy band. Interested to know your thoughts when u hear em
| deathschool It took me forever to get to a second listen (I was not listening super closely the first time around). But I really dug it. The musicianship is on point. My favorite was Amped.
| deathschool Sweet! I like that one a lot too. I will be listening to your album soon. It might be tomorrow, but I am looking forward to it.
| deathschool Thanks for the soundoff dude! I?m glad you liked it.
| Colton maybe it will, who knows
| Colton your music is really good dude I like your newest album a lot
| Ecnalzen Ha ha, I sure did! There's no review to discuss the things about it! I don't write sound offs often, but when I do, it's usually for something with no review.
| Rowan5215 you're missing absolutely nothing my dude. it is their worst
| Cygnatti idk if I can really help you with that tbh. I was lukewarm to Laughing Stock for years. I suppose the best advice is to listen to the Spirit of Eden, as it has many of the same ideas and styles that Laughing Stock does but is much more accessible and straightforward. No point in trying to force yourself into liking LS, but just come back to it every now and then with an open mind. The opener in that album is prob the hardest song to really get into, which is the opposite for SoE.
| Ecnalzen I hear ya. I live in Missouri (a suburb of stupidtown) so not a lot of ppl care about it this way either. I don't know how we got to and continue to drive past this point where people just straight up do not believe experts in their field of study and think their conspiracy theories are the true answer.
| Ecnalzen Glad to be of service! I am enjoying the release a little more every time I hear it. I even upped my initial rating a few days ago. Excited to hear what comes next! Are you guys just doing studio work now or are you able to try and gig at all where you are?
| Rowan5215 no worries king. sent it to my brother too, he's a big Turnover fan
| Sunnyvale Absolutely, man! Always up to listen to some user music. With regards to your question, let me get back to you about that after my next spin, expect to jam the album once more sometime this week. My comment was more of a "feeling" than a couple songs I can clearly pinpoint off the top of my head
| Rowan5215 hell yeah man, I didn't have time to listen but I gave your list a feature. keen to peep it
| Ecnalzen Uh oh. Oh gosh. Now I feel the spot being put on
| JesperL for sure! listened to it while studying today and it sounded super pleasant, will jam more attentively (and rate) tomorrow :]
| Ryus i checked out the first 3 songs and im impressed! reminds me a lot of the band turnover. i particularly liked nickel and dimes. you guys def have a good sound going, i like the harmonies too
| Rowan5215 yo that's dope man! what kind of music you play? and is it just you or a full band thing?
| Rowan5215 he's doing well now ty for asking. was most likely a sign that his new blood pressure medication was working and it dropped lower than his body was used to, cos he's had high BP as long as I can remember. but once he adjusted he was alright again, we were all just really shook up for a week or so. hope everything's still good on your end lad
| polyrhythm Shel Silverstein is one scary looking dude
| Rowan5215 sorry to hear my man, I hope he's well. we still don't know what exactly happened to my dad which is a pretty big worry lol. if there wasn't so much good music I don't know if I'd have made it through this ****in year
| Rowan5215 hey lad. had to take my dad to the hospital this morning which needless to say was pretty scary stuff. tbh this year has been absolute hell and not just for the obvious reason. good to see you back around these parts though, hope all's well
| Chortles ooof yeah dude, it's amazing. holter is a goddess
| Chortles haha no doubttt my dude. my taste has changed kind of radically since then and i don't jam much of it anymore, but i've had the cd in my car for years and it's always a pleasure to pop it in every now and again
| Rowan5215 Just really hope Chris Carter doesn't write a lot like **** give us a Vince and Darin season already
| Rowan5215 thanks homie. but in other news ANOTHER SEASON OF THE X-FILES HERE WE ****IN GO
| Rowan5215 their best album tbh. Shame In You and Over Now are my two favourite AIC songs. also merry christmas dude
| Chortles dude nice, public strain is a huge grower too 8-). preoccupations are stellar as well, their debut is 6/5 and their new one from this year is pretty damn good too
| Rowan5215 Set the Ray to Jerry is ****in tops, gotta give God a shout out that's basically Zero pt two
| Chortles dood go listen to women - public strain. i probably rec'd this like 3 years ago so just following up here, carry on
| Chortles it's a pretty legendary opening stretch. no one talks about down through much but it's probably my favorite overall, and one of my favorite songs ever. most heartbreaking thing ever conveyed in 2 minutes probably
| Chortles fair enough. maybe it does go on too long but im p biased, that album is just special to me in a lot of ways so i don't mind if it does
| Rowan5215 I've just never enjoyed it at all. Some great acting and beautiful cinematography wasted on a boring, cheap series of shock factor deaths imo
| Rowan5215 yo yo yo yoyo, you seen Stranger Things yet? massive x-files vibes off that show
| Rowan5215 thanks dude. You've always been one of the best people on this site and I'm super glad you're still around to chill. so Daughters of the Soho Riots is ****in me up rn
| Rowan5215 Amazing what a period of depression and anxiety and some outside perspective and some late-night listening can do for you, cos Alligator is working it's way into my favourite ever position
| demigod! SCREAM OUT, WHAT YOU CAAAAAAANT
| Rowan5215 so yeah I'm honestly not huge on Present Tense or Desert Island Disk, everything else is amazing to great though
| Rowan5215 haven't finished my first playthrough yet, some absolutely incredible moments though, not quite as cohesive as their last two albums it seems but still great
| Rowan5215 the whole of the Rival Cycle is ridiculous. Fun fact, that song's about masturbation - but how many wanking songs do you know that have lyrics like "leave the injured overturned fight for breath with flailing arms"
| Rowan5215 I just checked a few songs from that Relevant Elephants album. Enjoyable jams, nothing I would go crazy over though
| Rowan5215 literally that song is a masterpiece, like most songs on that album have at least one incredible musical moment like the bridge of the Rival Cycle, end of Broadcast Quality, pre-chorus in Flee the Factory etc. but This Armistice is just life-changing moment after life-changing moment. WE'RE ALL. PUPPETS. WE'RE ALL MARIONETTES
| Rowan5215 OHHH HOW I'VE BEEN TEETHING IN LIGHT OF YOUR MISLEADING YOU CAUSED THIS COLLAPSE BETWEEN THE HEART AND THE SYNAPSE
| Rowan5215 Yeah, This Armistice is probably one of my favourite songs ever, ****ing amazing. If you don't like how it ends make sure to pick up the bonus track Weightless Underwater, absolute tune. Also don't underestimate their second album Mi Fa Mi, its incredible in its own way.
| Rowan5215 literally not even Teso Dos Bichos was that bad
| Rowan5215 can we ban chris carter from writing ever again cos that was one of the worst episodes ever
| Rowan5215 Do it bro I could use the x files banter. I think my favourite horror ep is Die Hand Die Verlezt
| Rowan5215 Defs killed a lot of the potential for creepiness. I still have no idea what the graffiti thing was about either tbh. Yeah Clyde Bruckman is my number 1 and Jose no. 2, surprised Field Trip got dethroned for you tho
| Rowan5215 my main man Darin delivers the goods as expected
| Rowan5215 First episode sucked pretty hard especially that cringey monologue by Tad which is probably an all-time series low point for me. But damn that second episode was fire and Darin Morgan is gonna ****in slay so on balance, yes, very happy
| demigod! sup yoyo nice 2 most recent ratings ya got there
| Rowan5215 ****ing comment ****ed up, Cigarettes and Saints is the best song they've ever written and also new Dear Hunter is slowly growing on me
