| Chortles lol gr8 pic. not my feet tho sry
| Chortles i was really close too, at some point i probably moved up to the second or third row on the right-middle area (our right i mean, so his left). ****ing great and sooo loud but i kind of wish it wasn't a dj set and just a regular set from him. o well
| Chortles i kind of hate pits and those kinds of shows even tho i dig the music so thats probably why, i was chilling on the outskirts listening and it was the first show i went to that weekend so maybe i wasn't in the mood yet idk haha. lcd was late sunday night right? i think i was already on my way home, andy stott was the latest i could stay without missing my flight
| Chortles those were all like my least faves except andy lol, that ****ing main stage was too god damn crowded (i mean obviously but still). shellac was good tho, it was cool to see steve for the first time
| Chortles ohhhh s***tt did we see any of the same artists?
| toxin. Lol dope man. Sounds like you're living it up? Just looked at some of your old lists, looks like you're joining me in the Sputnik retirement community (aka real life)? Btw come to California, we just legalized weed here. And I hear the weed's good, though I wouldn't know first hand /goody2shoes
| toxin. Lol hella late response, but that sounds dope. Sounds like you had a nice summer! How's college been for you?
| iloveyouall yeah, skype me bb: Trap Lord, location Australia....
| iloveyouall i have fb, but hardly ever use it.... no tumblr either, so....
| theBoneyKing I mean generally I listen to very song-based music so I was a bit worried they wouldn't do much for me, and I'm aware the releases I've heard so far are among their most song-based ones but far more than usual for me I've been enjoying just luxuriating in the sounds and pulling apart the layers so I think I'll continue to enjoy their stuff even as it gets less song-y.
| theBoneyKing Nice, I'll see how that works. I'm really hoping I enjoy the rest of their stuff as much as I am MPP and Fall Be Kind.
| theBoneyKing I'm curious too, since there have been a few An Co related releases (Live at 9:30, Painting With, and Sleep Cycle) since you posted that list, where do you think they fit best in the order?
| theBoneyKing Hey, we don't interact much but I thought I'd give you a shout to let you know I'm getting into Animal Collective and I plan on using your list to do it (more or less, I started with Fall Be Kind and have now heard MPP and am loving both, but from here on out I'll try to follow it). Awesome job with that list btw, it's a really cool idea and a great read too. Idk if to your knowledge anyone has followed your order yet but I thought you might be interested to hear how it works.
| hal1ax ok cool i will torrent some of his stuff today. thxx
| hal1ax doesn't sound goofy to me. sounds like a trend affiliated with certain personality types. you know they've done studies that have shown remarkably strong correlations between certain personality types liking certain patterns of notes (minor g / major a# / etc.)
| hal1ax Ya bro I love twin peaks. U have any other recs by those two?
| hal1ax u talking about the writers?? david lynch / ingmar bergman? I've seen twin peaks, but have not seen anything written by bergman
| hal1ax mmm i like all sorts. my taste is prob pretty pleb tho. some of my favs are : there will be blood / the shining / the omen / taxi driver / the big lebowski / audition
| Rowan5215 one of the best movies I've seen in like five years, it's dressed up like a horror but the core is really something different and special, highly recommend
| Chortles peep my last list bb i want to c what u think
| Rowan5215 you seen They Look Like People from last year?
| iloveyouall that s*** ain't even close to love. i love sooo much more than you'd think. they just ain't my jam.
| YakNips well fam anna karrenina almost reminds me of that same realism in literary form, although i suppose it's hard to compare. what does MO stand for?
| toxin. yo dude what's up lol. it's been ****in forever, how've you been??
| YakNips well i can't promise an absence of that but maybe try pierrot le fou, it's a lot less slow-paced at least
| YakNips she's a person who was in some movies, notably ones made by jean-luc godard. orchid wrote a song about her partly in spanish. but yeah i love dostoevsky but he's not my very favourite
| YakNips dope book altho it has nothing to do with anna karina
| Idleness gimme a pizza dat! third trys the charm =] dont ever give up on your dreams or your inability to communicate

| Idleness that is SO interesting!!! why dont more people know this stuff!!! kman you are just so fascinating you know so many great cool things! you should be a teacher =]
| Idleness sorry not my thing, but i can pretend =]
| Idleness https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILHYrXbi6Cw
| iloveyouall yah, i feel ya holmes. his work is consistently good, but i've only ever found shadows to be better than that... btw, check this song: https://sobomtl.bandcamp.com/track/closer (house track of the year so far tbh)
| Hyperion1001 yeah which is honestly what im in search of right now, thanks bro. ill go relisten to them with a new approach and see what i think.
| Hyperion1001 yeah my girlfriend is a big fan, so ive listened to them quite a bit. i do enjoy their early live sets, for all the reasons you mentioned. honestly ive never even listened to one of their albums.
| iloveyouall american beauty and blues for allah. i preferred the latter by a slight margin, although neither really floated my boat.
| iloveyouall it grew off haaaaaaaaard. I still love call me maybe though, and I'm hyped af for her collab with Danny L Harle later this year...
| iloveyouall have you checked sutcliffe jugend's dark ambient album that they released this year? you might like it. :)
| Rowan5215 I think you might have mentioned it briefly but I'm unsure, that's awesome though. The world could always use more writers. keep it wavy man
| Rowan5215 Yeah I've always loved acting a lot, but you just have to be so good at it to make a living so I reckon writing is probably gonna be my specialty. Honestly I think its a combination of a s***ty government who keep stealing the funding for the arts and the need for actors to move overseas to get big, which is why all our best actors usually go to British films. But there's a hundred more reasons I'm not even aware of that just make it shocking atm
| Rowan5215 whereas in my course you can diversify a lot more so there's a lot more jobs for you when you graduate. It's a really awesome setup actually and my lecturer's been doing it for about 40 years. Yeah I had an interest in photography at one point but I was a bit too lazy to pursue it, my brother is pretty much a full-time photographer these days though and he comes out with some amazing stuff
| Rowan5215 oh yeah I'll absolutely be there for every second of shooting, I'm super interested to see the way the film's put together and like I said I'll be running errands, helping set up lights and stuff so I definitely don't get to duck out even if I wanted to. I actually do a theatre course but it's structured so that we pretty much learn a bit of everything and have the room to follow any passion we want because in australia if you just learn how to act you have a 1% chance of making a career of it
| Rowan5215 yeah for sure. Thankfully I'm the writer so my job is largely done and I can pretty much be the errand boy while my director's doing the hard stuff, heh. congrats dude, I have a feeling you'll do fantastic in college and wherever else
| Rowan5215 makin a short film which I wrote as part of my uni course which my friend is directing, watching it all come together is one of the most satisfying things I've seen, how are you doin man
| hal1ax well ya i guess it depends on what you look for in music. ambient for me is about catharsis, and emotion. i enjoy some darker stuff too
| hal1ax ya it is very sparse and minimal, which is my favorite sort of ambient. also very organic sounding-which i prefer to the more electronic side of the ambient spectrum. it also evokes strong imagery for me. feels like a spring afternoon .
| iloveyouall just file it under, "music that i am, but no one else is, cool enough to get," along with jan jelinek.
| iloveyouall how much fun is this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrhjhsGqvwk
| iloveyouall robert rich for one...? does it really make any difference?
| iloveyouall lmao, that was potentially the most unintentionally condescending thing i've read in forever. and further, i could throw most of that justification at any ~weird~ music and have it stick... come on man, i know you're better than this.
| iloveyouall i **** with orteka, it's just that they're well well well overhyped here so i try to keep the fanboys in check.
| iloveyouall i'm not a massive fan of lescalleet because (imo) he tries too hard... sticks more to musique concrete than EAI tho, so you'd probably like.
| torts be mean to me all you want, I'm 16 and stupid, I deserve to get cyberbullied LOL
| torts guitars are expensive homie, whatchu think this is,,,,
| torts I'm abysmal at art my man
| torts because my life is really miserable and I genuinely have nothing else to do lmao
| torts I'm spiteful at the fact that I don't like what I'm listening to so I try to pose arguments on why whatever I'm listening to is bad, when in reality the case is just I have s*** taste
| hal1ax oh you've heard it? dang. ok, this is like in the top 5 fav ambient ever for me --- Vikki Jackman and Andrew Chalk - A paper doll's whisper of spring
| hal1ax ya man ambient is prob my favorite genre hehe. I'm surprised i haven't heard of them before. here, how about we trade recs --- Julien Neto~Le Fumeur de Ciel
| hal1ax ya u just sold me. lovely description. i honestly ****1n love sullen, melancholic music, especially in atmospheric oriented genres like ambient / BM / shoegaze, etc.
| hal1ax for sure man. i checked the artists page earlier and saw Fennesz in the similar artist column and got excited
| macman76 We are the Romans is great, have anthology and American nervoso downloaded, but haven't given them a good listen
| iloveyouall it ain't bad yeah.... probably the 3est of 3s in the land of 3s tho. still, i dig that you vibe with it. respect.
| macman76 Since you need some metal in your chart, check contortionist - language. It's not heavy, very atmospheric
| macman76 death metal growls lol, it would need me having a better electronica background to truly know
| macman76 I try (mostly fail) to follow the Roger Ebert philosophy to ratings: rate based on how much something reaches its potential, not for your personal preference.
| iloveyouall I wear hawaiian weed and smoke shirts fuk fun i'm u
| iloveyouall yeah, you're heaps of fun, sorry for not noticing :)
| iloveyouall and emo in your pie chart too! fun epitomised.
| iloveyouall listen to the new chief keef x zaytoven mixtape. it'll change your perspective...
| iloveyouall then you'll finally fit into the target demographic old boi.
| iloveyouall we all have to glo up some day. your time will come.
| iloveyouall that's def one of his better songs, but it's still nothin to vibe with. i'd have more fun listening to bladee tbh, and that's saying something.
| iloveyouall huh? fun is probably the last word i'd associate with anything ugly man related. and besides, i don't believe in hate, just lesser degrees of love.
| Idleness \m/ (-_-) \m/ metal warriors unite \m/ (-_-) \m/
| Keyblade damn, that sounds even better. cheers bro
| Keyblade damn didnt even know that he had a new one. need to get on that, been kinda itching for some dubtech lately
| iloveyouall middle of the road tbh. falls under the umbrella of ambient-leaning EAI that does very little for me... that being said, i don't mind some of his stuff, i just wish it went harder.
| Rowan5215 Maybe, PSH did a lot more films with Anderson so its hard to judge against just Synecdoche but I think it has a fair claim to being his best performance
| Rowan5215 ****in yeah! Philip Seymour Hoffman and Charlie Kaufmann are basically my favourite actor-director pairing ever
| Rowan5215 yeah but have you seen Synecdoche, New York tho
| XingKing I feel you. All of his other films are real small dramas and this is much larger comparatively so I can see how it would feel more like your typical big studio film
| XingKing I wouldn't call it the best film of the past ten years but it was easily the best film of 2011 (tied with Shame), IMO. I lol'd when you said Midnight Special was big budget though since it's budget was only 18mil but then I looked at Take Shelter's and it wasn't even 5mil. Dayyuumm
| XingKing I haven't seen it yet but I definitely plan to because Nichols is a great director and Michael Shannon is amazing. I don't remember if you loved Take Shelter as much as I did but if this is better, I am ready to have my tits blown off
| wwyd well, i've started uni and i'm loving the **** out of it. lots of alcohol, lots of girls, learning stuff i actually find interesting, and flourishing because of it... i have no complaints at all tbh. i've been trying my best to get involved as well. i'm trying to better myself, and make up for all of the wasted years.... i don't know if it's too late or not, but it never hurts to try, right?
| wwyd well, at the very least you can say these are exciting times for you. best of luck with your application, and I hope that the screenplay goes well too. :) and honestly, seeing as you're 2/4 with the applications already, even if you don't get this one, you have options, and that's a lot more than most people can say, so you should be proud of yourself.
| wwyd thanks. :) i think it's a good thing that my taste is identifiable. makes me feel kinda unique tbh... anyways, that aside, how've you been?
| wwyd most do. most resent me for it. apparently old wounds don't heal...
| Chortles they r all p different from each other for the most part sry
| Chortles wow I bet ur gonna change his world man. as far as stott goes if u have only listened to Faith in Strangers wow you have to listen to more. All pretty amazing, we stay together is the dopest creepy dance party ever tho but you really need to peep them all
| Yotimi regarding your dreyer post - get on Passion of Joan of Arc asap
| Keyblade give it a decade it'll be considered a bonafide classic, trust
| Chortles miss u too boi. also andy stott d000d nice :~
| Hyperion1001 yeha i have a couple of his singles and theyre all great but i havent checked out the full length yet, i need to get on it. also i was gonna ask you which animal collective album do you think i should listen to first, i think i could dig them pretty hard.
| Hyperion1001 its probably my favorite modern movie tbh, i wish i knew more people to talk about it with. that score and that production design omg. the trip sequence is like the best thing since ken russell.
| Jots it's better than spiral cramp in that it's more ambitious for sure
| Jots i really like a couple tracks (like Tampered With and the one that comes after) but as an A to B listen i'm still lukewarm
| Jots you like them right? unless my sources are incorrect
| Jots https://skeletallightning.bandcamp.com/album/dreams-of-suffocation - new Gillian Carter
| DoofusWainwright Put it this way - if someone said Spirit and HCTI were their two favourite AnCo I'd just think they'd probably be better off finding better albums by other similar artists to those styles whereas 'feels', 'jam' and 'merriweather' I couldn't get close to finding replacements for.
| DoofusWainwright to be fair on me Spirit I would have rated at least a 4/5 for the first year I owned it but now I just view it as sub-Microphonesy and as having none of the qualities that make latter day AnCo great. HCTI I never liked all that much but 'Two Sail on a Sound' is 5/5 and one of my top 10 Collective songs (check my top 25 tracks list)
| Jots haha, if you have access to it then yeah. is it streaming or something? and I can proofread it for you also - I'm really not in the mood to review it lol
| Jots true. It's more consolidated for sure, and I prefer it over their last thingy easily
| Jots O rly? yeah i wasn't head over heels. what was your fav song?
| Jots it's good yeah, prolly gonna bump my rating up. planning on reviewing but we'll see if i can even deliver ; [
| Jots dunno if it's leaked but it's out march 4, iirc
| Ryus i'm more of a TV man myself
| Ryus not really too much
| Hyperion1001 graduated college and moved away and now im livin with my gf, and lifes pretty great honestly it's just getting settled and getting a real job and having responsibilities kind of put s***posting to the wayside, but i miss writing so hopefully i get back in the swing soon.
| Hyperion1001 i miss you guys i wanna start posting again life was just crazy for a while there
| Lord(e)Po)))ts dern is a legendary actress yeah. well, i own it on dvd so better dust that s*** off soon.
| Lord(e)Po)))ts he has described those 3 as his hell, limbo, and purgatory trilogy or something like that. i believe lost highway was hell, drive was limbo and inland was purgatory. so they are supposed to be connected in a sense. but yeah ur kind of encouraging me to watch it again, its really the only lynch film i havent watched multiple times other than straight story, its been a while.
| Lord(e)Po)))ts its my least favourite of the "trilogy" that is Inland Empire, Mulholland Drive, and Lost Highway but i still like it. I find it the most perplexing of the bunch and its length really doesn't help. its really hard to make sense of whereas i've kind of figured out the other two more or less I think. I've also only watched it once tho because its so long and draining, the other two ive watched multiple times each.
| SachikoM You sound like me. I've been told my verbosity is almost kafkaesque in its impenetrability, so I force myself to keep my sentences short, lest I ruin any chance of successfully gaining a scholarship in my own attempts to write fluidly...
| SachikoM that's still pretty nuts. I mean, I've had to write a ****ing ton of essays (normally purpose-specific stuff: why you want a scholarship, why you are doing this course, that sorta bulls***), but the word limits killed me. I'd pump out a 1500 word essay perfectly fine, but when it was only allowed to be 750, it was hell trying to cut s*** down. Thankfully there are only two unis I'm looking at, so I didn't need to write too many (probably 8 max). Still, painful af...
| SachikoM ****kkk. you're american tho (iirc), so I imagine the process to get into a good uni over there is a lot more complex. all I had to do was sit the state-wide tests and hope I did well enough (the course I want to requires that my rank is top 5%). i get my results on thursday, so here's to hoping. I'm looking at doing economics and maths (double major)... the really time consuming thing for me was scholarship and college applications. ****ing essays almost killed me...
| SachikoM damn, I hope that the seasonal depression goes away quickly for you. i've been working mainly (got a couple of jobs on the go), and waiting to see if I get into the uni I want to. aside from that, trying to get laid (lol), and dating a bit. just filling my time tbh.
| SachikoM haven't seen you 'round here for a while. 'sup?
| MyNameIsPencil alternatively I could also do a lot of acid and blast Oddsac on loop
| MyNameIsPencil Oh I hear ya haha. It's funny cause I was looking over your AnCo list and Feels was actually the easiest album by them for me to get into
| MyNameIsPencil I have a weird gut feeling that I'll enjoy Campfire Songs a lot once I give it time tbh
| MyNameIsPencil I downloaded 6 of AnCo's albums and Fall Be Kind. Time to get weird and artsy I guess
| skeames1214 Yeah, I'll email it to you as soon I'm done. I just decided to read it through before going back. I've got like 1/3 of it edited
| skeames1214 I dug ur screenplay doo ur right it gets stronger as it goes. P good storytelling. Dialogue doesn't feel super natural but that'll come with time and practice. Really impressive first effort. Just for reference I'm also reading some post-grad college assholes script and urs is better.
| SachikoM Wrong. Almost objectively wrong tbh. It's not even top 5 ambient sub genres.
| SachikoM I have heard it, didn't like it that much. As a rule, dark ambient sucks more cocks than your mother after 3 bottles of wine, so if i were to say it is above average dark ambient, I wouldn't be doing it any great service would I???? I'll just stick with, "it's ok.".
| Trebor. Yeah it's just a recorder, sorry if I wasn't clear on that
| Trebor. Tascam is completely separate from the camera, you plug a mic into it and record, and with headphones you can hear the audio as you're recording it so you'll know if it's good on the spot. You need a dedicated audio person on set for this kind of set up though which is the only problem. They're pretty easy to use though
| SachikoM If you want dark scary noise, I whole-heartedly recommend Propergol (Renegade, Program Vengeance and Ground Proximity Warning System). Lots of samples, and a tendency towards atmosphere and tension rather than all-out noise. GPWS is practically dark ambient. Really good stuff.
| SachikoM Their newer ones aren't as good as some of the early ones, but constantly terrified is def their best (imo).
| SachikoM Pretty solid. They try a bit too hard at times, but they have some sweet moments (most notably in Obedience Cuts and Constantly Terrified).
| skeames1214 GOD DAM I ACCIDENTLYD UR SHOUTBOX POST PLS RESEND
| Trebor. I finally saw Blue Ruin, so ****ing good
| Keyblade damn that was really good. will make him a priority next time im in a dark ambient mood, cheers dude
| Keyblade I'm only really familiar with Knife tbh, which is superb. how is the rest of his discog
| demigod! damn this is so much longer than any of my scripts haha. pretty interesting so far tho
| demigod! did you write a movie script or something? i wanna read
| Trebor. yeah being one fifth lynch would be nice. All his work seems like it exists in an alternate universe where people act and react to things differently than in the normal world
| Trebor. Yeah I've heard that. Lynch's whole career is really strange
| Trebor. yeah the ratio is pretty off with horror/stuff with not a lot of dialogue. Like Eraserhead's script is 40 pages I think. I wouldn't worry about it too much at this point.
| Trebor. cool cool I sent you a script. It's only like 19 pages
| Trebor. Would you want to read some s*** I wrote?
| skeames1214 this'll take a little while, but if you want i can send you an edited copy of the script when i'm finished. i've been cutting a little bit as i've been reading. i think i've kept the spirit intact, just cut about five pages or so off the total length (still only halfway through).
| Trebor. He was on Louie and it was the best thing ever
| Trebor. oh lol. I can see that. I thought the first episode established well that it's kind of goofy and absurd , like it exaggerates to make a point. It's definitely no twilight zone
| skeames1214 no worries! You probably know more about script writing than me, so take whatever I say with a grain of salt, haha. I've got a few friends in the biz (barely), but anything I've gleaned from them has just been through casual conversation.
| skeames1214 Yeah for sure! That's why I said you don't need to explain it at all in the parenthesis. The actors should usually have some say in how their character is played, you're right. But in that case you don't need the 'some' at all, they don't need that cue.
| skeames1214 Hey buddy, about halfway through your script. Haven't forgotten bout it. So far I like it! One criticism would be that you use a lottttt of qualifying language in your blocking. For example, 'he felt somehow safe in in the presence of his friend. It gave him some sense of security.' You're the writer, you tell us exactly why he feels safe (or don't, and just leave it at feeling safe, that's fine too). That kind of language is usually used to try to speak to a depth that isn't there
| SachikoM People tell me I take everything too seriously, but around here it seems like everyone takes me too seriously tbh. The internet is a confusing place. You're a pretty good user tho. You don't attack me when I say music is s*** like everyone else does, so I salute you. :]
| SachikoM Since we're comparing shirts, here's one I own:http://cfprod.com/fa/kuvat/grunt-shirt-grey.jpg
| SachikoM That is a very colourful shirt. As you may have noticed/guessed, I'm not very posi. It's probably my worst trait. Oh well....
