| SAPoodle Hey mate, long time! Any new music on the horizon? I still check on your Devictus project every now and then. I have a new album out if you're interested in hearing it; I know I'm not on your level but your music has inspired me a lot over the years so there's definitely some parts inspired by Devictus on here! https://claustrophobia1.bandcamp.com/album/what-we-talk-about-when-we-talk-about-love
| osmark86 Tip for beats is a lot of parallell compression and some tasty use of saturation on a drum bus. Then some subtle room reverb on your percs n tops. Tune your kick to the song too.
| Dolving999 Yo JS! How are you doing? I remember you being one of the few here on sputnik who was interested in my music, and just for that I thank you immensely! I finally got around to releasing my latest album, so if you are into weird stuff, please consider checking it out. Here's the link (check the list I made for Spotify/YT): https://remeocivitas.bandcamp.com/album/modern-realism
| Sniff bruh nah. only thing we get in sweden is basshunter and dr. bombay :(
| Sniff New Physics House band pure fire
| mindleviticus I modded a few synths and made my own sampler to get some of the sounds in Reaktor 6 and the mixing/mastering was done in FL studios.
| SAPoodle It's really good, I like that it was a bit more subtle, although I still reckon the balance you had on Personal Infinity with the more piano-based tracks interspersed between the drone ones makes it my personal favourite. This is up there, though, everything you've done has been great. Yeah you inspired me to use Reason too haha I haven't managed to make anything nearly as good as you have but I'm definitely digging experimenting with it!
| SAPoodle New EP is great man, really digging it!
| I've been meaning to tell you man, it's been over a year since this happened already but oh well, I went to visit my friend in Chile and we sat on his piece of land on this island high as **** and looked out over the most beautiful natural scenery. While all this happened, we listened to Dead Branches... and the moment was perfect. So thanks for that memory mate.
| Josh D. A place down the street rents instruments, and they have a pedal club where you can rent them 1,2, or 3 at a time and swap them out as much as you want. So I'm currently trying to hammer down a sound by combining different ones. So if yall have pedal recs or playing tips you come across, I'm looking for them.
| Josh D. I'm actually experimenting with guitar pedals for the first time (I'm not a guitar player, but I need new sounds). So if you know your way around ambient guitar, that's what I'm pretending to do next.
| osmark86 Resampling and working with samples tend to give richer sounds imo than pure synthesis, but sometimes you just want a really pure synthy sound like a slightly messed up saw or whatnot. Best of both worlds is where it usually goes.
| osmark86 Ah nice, it's a swedish company behind reason here in sthlm. Wouldn't mind working there sometime in the future. I usually mess with manipulating presets in synths but I make a few from scratch as well. Usually it's just me and my laptop so I tend to program midi which takes forever when working on swing and dynamics etc ^^. I have a midi controller though just not at home.
| osmark86 thanks a lot man. I use FL Studio atm as my DAW of choice because I've used it for so long and understand the workflow. mainly I work with a lot of samples (my own, from various packs youtube etc) and incorporate a lot of synths as well. I'll record my guitar every now and then too. can't say I'm an expert producer, but I've picked up a bunch of tricks over the years and mainly employ those or purposefully break the rules when I feel like a song calls for it. what do you use yourself mate?
| Mongi123 Nice man glad it?s working for you too. Same here I pop up every now and then and I still keep it as a music database.
| Mongi123 Hey man everything?s good! Just jamming, trying to make money and get through school hahaha what about you??
| Mentasm I'm baiting that astral guy so shhh
| lalchimiste Thanks for the kind words, it's an honor to be part of the label. As my first time releasing something I was definitely not expecting such positivism.
| BenThatsMyJamin Dude that's crazy that you saw me, small world! Were you by the front/ in the pit as I might have seen you?
| Dewinged Tx a lot for checking it man, glad to hear you liked it! I haven't followed up in a while but will have to get on the new stuff some time soon.
| Cygnatti oh didn't know rival consoles had a new one! i have a running narrative in my head that every new year has it's own "immunity", 2014 - dave dk, 2015 - kiasmos maybe, 2016 - rival consoles, i didn't keep up with 2017 to find if it had one tho ~
| Cygnatti on the off-chance ur still interested in stuff that sounds like immunity, try: dave dk - val maira, and kiasmos - s/t. not quite the same, but i think they all reach similar ends through different means.
| Dewinged My stuff is under Manuel Trillo here and in bandcamp. Hope you enjoy it!
| Dewinged I know how it is to put the baby out in the world after a lot of work man, so no worries. That said, this is pretty good dude, in all honesty. The closer is massive.
| Dewinged Sure man, gonna jam it. Digging that art.
| SAPoodle Dude really, who does your album art? Always really great! (Excited to hear the music it contains too haha)
| DungeonBoy That's awesome man! Whenever you're close to finished just send us an email at thegreenmanlabel@gmail.com and we can go from there
| DungeonBoy Hey man, I know you just released a new record, but do you have any plans for an upcoming release anytime this year? It could even be an EP, doesn't need to be a full length. If you're interested, we'd like to release your next album on The Green Man. The new Boring Bathtimes is coming out in a couple days, and my project Rota Fortunae is releasing an EP next month, both on the label. Cheers!
| NorwichScene Lol, yeah Black Peaks not same genre, just saying that and TWBF are my most anticipated albums this ear
| DungeonBoy Awesome to hear! we're working on sorting out some stuff at the moment, but will keep you in the loop
| DungeonBoy Currently we have 3 artists on the label. Boring Bathtimes (https://boringbathtimes.bandcamp.com/) Meus (https://meus.bandcamp.com/album/miserere-mei-deus) and Rota Fortunae (https://rotafortunae.bandcamp.com/) if you are interested in the type of music we are interested in the type of music we are promoting. All 3 of the current projects are more on the acoustic folky side of things, but we have reached out to similar ambient projects such as yours since we feel they would fit with our label
| DungeonBoy Nice man, that's awesome. Fellow Sputniker ButteryBiscuitBass and I have started a web label called The Green Man, and are seeking quality artists interested in releasing their work on it. 100% of your earnings will go directly to you, and the idea of the label is more of a community based collective that will help with artist promotion. We both agreed that your new album "When the Rest of Heaven Was Blue" would be an excellent addition, so if you?re interested we?d love to have you on the label
| DungeonBoy Hey man, just wanted to let you know, I listened to your new release this weekend while I was working on some art, and I think it's excellent stuff! I remember checking out a previous release of yours which I thought was good, but the new one left a much greater impact on me. Cheers and congrats!
| SAPoodle There's a sput compilation? Sounds awesome! I dunno man, your piano sounds pretty good to these ears already. It works well with the more textural stuff.
| SAPoodle Just listened to Diomira - great track! Would have been a perfect fit for the second half of Personal Infinity. I really enjoy the more piano-based tracks of yours
| Dewinged Yo JS, checked the whole thing. Really nice man, Halo is my favourite by far. That piano melody is genuinely beautiful. About voices yeah dude, just record yourself and crank that reverb up and give it a shot. A female voice would also fit really well imo. I also have my stuff in bandcamp, not sure if it will be your thing but feel free to check it out: https://manueltrillo.bandcamp.com/
| Dewinged Jammed your album up to Watermark, cause I had to go do smth else but really good so far man, very well produced and carried out. I don't know if some song will have them, but I would love to hear some track with some ethereal vocals.
| Dewinged Cheers man, digging that cover and color palette, will jam it later!
| SAPoodle And thanks for checking out my stuff too man! I wasn't joking when I said I hope I can make something as good as (pretty much anything off) Personal Infinity one day. I've listened to it every day since downloading it, can't get enough!
| SAPoodle I checked out your first EP too! I'll need to give it another listen before I give an opinion on it. I think, though, the way you structured Personal Infinity is part of what makes it work so well; the piano interludes kind of keep the whole thing going without allowing it to become too dreary. Mind if I ask what you used to create it? I'm super amateur when it comes to making my own music so Claustrophobia is really just me messing around
| SAPoodle Honestly no problem man, I genuinely love the album! If I ever make anything half as good as what you've done on here I'll be stoked haha! Yeah, I mean, I'm just one opinion so hope you didn't cut down Afterimage just because I thought it was too long haha but I'm listening now and it does seem to be a lot better. I really like what you do with all your voice samples by the way, the way they blur into the music is pretty unique.
| SAPoodle Hey man, just want to tell you I checked out your Devictus project and it really moved me. That's really, really rare, that something I picked up out of the blue manages to have any real effect on me, so well done because you've made some genuinely fantastic music. I look forward to hearing what you have to offer in future.
| GmemberKills I definitely look forward to more stuff, and maybe a ep or something one day. I'd be curious to know a bit how you created it too, if you are will willing to share
| GmemberKills Oh s***. Glad you decided to finally take a crack at it. I'm honestly impressed, there is a lot of nice organic textures going on throughout the piece, and it feels like it has some natural progression. There is a lot of user/bandcamp 'ambient' that is just s***ty vsts or lame acoustic guitar noodling, this is excellent tbh.
| Jethro42 Hey man! Friday13th is preparing another of his prog tourneys. Would you be interested to be a part of it? Please, apply here. http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=166576
| Frippertronics with the approval of the higher ups, i am compiling a new album and would like peeps who heard their works, etc. to vote http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=596c713ae4b004432b10717b
| clavier There's this fun math rock band from Northern Ireland called Eatenbybears - they've got a fiddle which is really cool. Colour is poppier math rock, maybe not as technical as their peers but they've got much spirit. I've just checked out the Vasa album, I really like their Celtic vibes - actually ties into Eatenbybears' style.
| clavier That Hikes album is pretty damn good
| Sniff That Apocryphos album is amazing, thanks for the rec!
| GmemberKills As far as interface brand recs go, look into getting something like a focusrite or presonus. Those are a lot more durable and most have built in xlr power too, so if you ever wanted you'd be able to use a real microphone. They infinitely sound better than a usb mic ever could. If you are interested in a midi keyboard though, be aware certain ones need to be setup with FL while others have near instant compatibility.
| GmemberKills No problem. Fl studio has a mild learning curve but there is a of lot tutorials on youtube and i could probably help if you get stuck as well. I actually don't use a midi keyboard, but if you plan to use any virtual keyboards/sounds it would makes things easier. With the audio interface though i'm able to hook my keyboards/guitar/anything straight into the inputs on it and record directly which sounds really nice especially for the keys.
| GmemberKills Ugh typos.... hopefully all that helps some though lol
| GmemberKills Audacity is more of simpler straightforward recorder/editor in comparison to fl studio, but it's what I used to record the whole first white seed album with and I still use it today for certain situations as well. those things are like the minimum to get you started, and it's kind of how i started out as well. if you end up wanting to upgrade and have more options/better recordings a audio interface is must, along with a program like fl studio which is refereed to as a DAW.
| GmemberKills It definitely can be useful. You can make some nice ambience with just a guitar, a few chords and some effects. Really If you have a keyboard/piano, some type of mic (could even be like a cellphone or something) and a computer you'd be surprised what you can start creating. You just need to get a hold of a recording program tho, i'd recommend something audacity (free) and fl studio.
| GmemberKills *you can easily start recording with limited equipment. I can definitely give you tips on how to get started too.
| GmemberKills Nice. That project is what i'm more focused on now anyway. Well tbh i don't really know much music theory or hardly use any computer based instruments. Pretty much all the instrumentation for white seed is made from guitar/pedals/cheap synths/ and samples. sometimes I manipulate the recorded sounds with a computer but that is about it. you might need more gear if you want to achieve a certain sound, but you can easily start recording
| GmemberKills yo! i'd be glad too. are you referring to my crooked sun stuff or whiteseeD??? either way i could definitely help you out some, I've learned a lot too since i've put out my last release.
| zaruyache If they were to get more invested in it they could prob be oretty OK. :)
| zaruyache "Glaramara" is pretty decent. Songs aren't very long, and the production isn't great, but they're not bad. The clean guitars sound great, though; it's that vocal mixing and that faux-raw guitar sound aren't awesome, but what can you do?
| Astral Abortis Not entirely similar but look up the new Garotted demo!
| Prognoz That band Spokes you rec are amazing! Exactly was I was looking for when I wanted more post rockish harmonies so thank you.
| LotusFlower hmmm, that We Never Learned to Live album aint too shabby. Ill keep listening to it, thanks!
| WilhelmBlack So sorry about my horrible list and I have changed my rating system a lot to be honest.
| LotusFlower Hey man, glad you enjoyed it! It's a beauty of a record, ain't it?
| Jethro42 Hey dude, I've made a Gazpacho's top 20 list if ever you're interested. I'm looking for some visit haha. http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=280733
| Crawl I got it from getrockmusic.net. Still not entirely happy with it, but it's much much than spotify or anything else I've heard.
| AbyssalCreation psst http://countblahblah.blogspot.com/2009/03/spitfire-cult-fiction-2008.html
| psandy for some reason i wasn't able to navigate to your page, site problem maybe. I love TMOE, he finally made his way to KC and I was enchanted by his performance. if you ever get the chance, don't miss it. great show. He teased "King of Spain" the whole time and never played it haha
| psandy is that kris mattson in your avatar?
| minty901 ah i guess you were lucky then. i saw them at nottingham rock city. ive seen countless bands there and every time the sound has been terrible. i knew it wasnt going to be a good gig but i still went because i wanted to see them. should have driven the extra distance and gone to manchester.
| minty901 I have seen them live (and they did play Sycamore) but unfortunately it was at a venue with a terrible sound system and they were supporting HIM, so the whole audience was there to see a different band and talked over Caspian the whole time. It was very, very disappointing, though not the fault of the band. I hope to see them again some time, properly. How about you?
| minty901 You love Sycamore Live at Old South Church right?Have you seen their new live video for the song from their upcoming blu-ray release?https://www.facebook.com/CaspianTheBand/videos/vb.6049165674/10153292683125675/?type=2
| OmairSh 5 the new Symphony X song. Do it. DO IT
| SillyCaringRabbitPal check neurosis and if you like that maybe try cult of luna haha! have a great day i really hope its excellent
| Lord(e)Po)))ts sure thing bud. whatever makes you feel like a cool guy on the internet.
| Lord(e)Po)))ts You should have better things to do. Literally all you use this site for is to hate stalk me over some bulls*** argument over a year ago. It's pathetic and annoying tbh. I don't wish you any ill will and have no desire to engage in your little passive aggressive exchanges. Grow a pair of balls and get over it kid, it's just the Internet. Show some integrity for once.
| Artuma nm bro. dunno if you've already heard the new marriages but if you haven't then check it
| CK Hey man, how have you been? Haven't seen or heard from you in some time. Any new digs I should know about?
| Mongi123 Ok dude, I was gonna try them a long time ago but then somewhere along the way I forgot they existed haha
| Mad. Fair enough man but it's a shame you don't enjoy Demon more, it's amazing imo
| Mad. Bro, 3.5 for Gazpacho and 4.5 for Taylor Swift?? ):
| EyesWideShut hey dude do you still have that Full of Hell link?
| owen found it a few mins after I asked, but that's only CD1Have you heard CD2?
| owen did the new FoH leak?
| Jots thanks dude. definitely gonna be a polarizing album for some people because of how stripped down it is, but I liked it
| Jots it's cool to see so many people digging that Gates album. it definitely caught me by surprise
| OmairSh Been meaning to check his stuff out
| OmairSh Is that you with the horse in your avatar? It bugs me every damn time
| Rowan5215 Departure Songs, Raising Your Voice, Kenotic... what a ****ing epic combo that is. Chasing After Shadows and Maybe They Will Sing are great too but not the same level. Still gotta hear Oblivion Hymns. and yeah besties4lyfe
| Rowan5215 Will do! I have three 4.5s for them already goddamn
| Rowan5215 Dude at two different times today I sat down on a bench and turned on Disappear Like the Morning.... Like Starlight into Day by Hammock and just watched the world pass by me and it was ****ing amazing
| Jots Sweet, glad you approved man, means a lot.
| Jots Did the review do it justice?
| Rowan5215 Nah man we graduate then do exams then have a formal then see if we got into uni or not so I still got the hard work to do :D
| Rowan5215 Yeah Aus and UK systems are very different but basically I now get to sit for my final exams which determine whether I get into uni or not, so exciting times. Good luck with yours bro
| Rowan5215 Pretty damn swell, just got back from my graduation so its a weird mix of emotions. how bout you?
| OmairSh Lunatic soul album teaser boi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaenJuj3C3w
| YakNips I'd like to do a full length soon hopefully, but before that I have a few splits that should be out soon hopefully, I'll let you know when those are out. And thanks man! I'm really glad that you like it, that makes me v happy
| mryrtmrnfoxxxy if the necro u have is epitaph or w/e throw it in the garbage and jam onset
| mryrtmrnfoxxxy just pleb s*** like necrophagist idk if you like melodeath check hypocrisy
| YakNips Hey bud, since you enjoyed me last LP thought you might like my new EP, it's a bit different but I'd like to get your feedback http://singlesoul.bandcamp.com/album/songs-about-girls
| OmairSh I've been well, ye always listening to music. Listening to random stuff depending on the mood. You tell.
| Mad. Ah well shows how much I know, defo overhyped though
| Mad. I don't like post hardcore either but I wouldn't really call that post-hardcore, it's more like blues-rock with pointlessly shouty vocals
| Mad. I am indifferent to post-hardcore
| Mad. I hate post-hardcore
| Mad. Yo man I reviewed this album, you'd dig - quite like Gazpacho and another of 2014's best: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/62462/Messenger-Illusory-Blues/
| BigPleb Haha everyone is always a tool on sput anyway! Ye man, just inbox with it so other creeps aren't stealing your number :p
| VlacDrac Hi there, I was wondering if you could rec me post rock albums? I have been in the mood for post rock in the last few days but I want to listen to more albums and artists.
| Pon http://plug.dj/everything-is-riffs/
| mindleviticus rym isn't a very social place i'll give you that. I prefer going on here to talk to more people lol
| mindleviticus =P!!!! Thank! Listen to the album Musique Pour Trois Femmes Enceintes By Marc Leclair when you get the chance; it's one of my favorite ambient/electronic albums
| mindleviticus I joke rate on here, but I will do some serious ratings on here when I get the motivation/time. I just do them on rym 'cause it's so organized
| TheRealVermicide9013 I really doubt that you have heard Edguy's album, is more enjoyable than the ****in avril lavigne album, c'mon give a reason why should I rate with a lower score that Edguy's work
| TheRealVermicide9013 Edguy rapes Avril JS,this album of edguy is funnier and displays more talente. Besides bitchin summer, hello kitty, the duet with chad kroger and the single rock and roll were bad for my ears :D
| spookynewghostfriend yo dere a fool round dese parts going by that name jm18 best keep ur eyes open D=
| OmairSh Those ****ing vocals http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJwSZIajEvI
| OmairSh Been good. I've actually been more active of late. Just trying to listen to more new music. You tell. Haven't seem much of you in fact
| Mongi123 Yea dude they work surprisingly well and I never thought I'd warm up to vocals like this in the shoegazing genre or just in general. It's pretty amazing.
| Mongi123 I reevaluated my Alcest ratings and review man. I edited it like crazy. Shelter is still fantastic but it grew off a little bit after hearing Ecailles which doesn't normally happen to me when it comes to music :/
| Mongi123 Tried your rec man. It was pretty great. Nothing out of the ordinary and some sounded like they could have been ripped right out of Violent/Bright but some awesome songs on there.
| Mongi123 The guitar riffs in the title track part 2 are amazing. I'm pretty neutral about those type of vocals on here though. Hopefully they grow.
| Mongi123 Lovin me some Alcest man! Really enjoying Ecailles and I'm surprised I am. I don't hate the vocals like I do on Sunbather. I don't love them either but they don't bring down the beautiful music.
| Mongi123 Haha I'll throw that on my list and see if I like it! If it's anything like Violent/Bright then I probably will.
| Mongi123 Oh sweet. It has a decent amount of rates too so I'm surprised it doesn't have a review.
| Mongi123 Thanks so much man I plan on it
| Frippertronics if you're interested: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/60852/The-Enid-Something-Wicked-This-Way-Comes/
| Pon Glad you liked them, any favs?
| Pon Depends on what you mean by "decent production", but if you check out my "Death Metal of The 2010s" list you should find a tonne of stuff you'll dig. The descriptions should give you an idea of what you're looking for.
| Mad. Yo, how come you've never reviewed anything? You seem like a pretty articulate fella
| Frippertronics hey man, got an Enid review for Touch Me up if you're interested
| Mongi123 Yea dude hearing that song a second time made me 5 it. If those two bands are anything like that then I may have to check them out
| Mongi123 I haven't man. I don't normally listen to indie rock stuff but damn, this album is different. Just saw all of the fantastic ratings and comments it was getting and I had to try it. What do you think of Here Is Where?
| Mad. I dunno, they said they're all still mates, just that 'it seemed like a good time to finish' or somet
| Mad. Ah, were you at Arctangent? You caught one of their last ever gigs, they broke up :'(
| Mad. This is feckin' unmissable http://humanfly.bandcamp.com/album/awesome-science-2
| OmairSh Love this song (the band is brilliant) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pwj1RZTEdUw, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19qiAOyykIs, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nG_9QyPvrM0, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhlIHb3SKyw, sorry for the bombardment :-P
| OmairSh Glad you liked it :-) (I'm obsessed with it, it's so gorgeous), I have plenty more but didn't know if you'd enjoy. And since you're not in the prog mood, perhaps the cultural music will fit right in :-). http://vimeo.com/80033590, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEjfiBWPHmA, you can turn the captions on for the songs that have them. If you want more songs my latest list has a few, enjoy :-)
| OmairSh Nah it's coo, it's your opinion :-)
| OmairSh Then don't rate the stuff when you're not even in the right mood dude
| OmairSh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJlhSU6_HPI. Liquid tensions 2.5? Someone wants their objectivity to go uup
| Pon Yeah it should have more attention, might even review it.
| Artuma sweet, such a great album
| anarchistfish Nah I didn't. My A Levels were mostly ok, although the marking for Geography at A2 was so harsh that I wasn't far off missing my offer.
| anarchistfish Lol I had to learn the entire music gcse course in year 11 cos our year 10 teacher taught us s*** all. Hated the practical aspect too and we were the worst class at simmering down and actually doing work. Honestly turned out to be the hardest gcse. Have some fond memories of our banter and the love hate relationship with our year 11 teacher though.
| anarchistfish I know what you mean. In retrospect it would've been practically impossible for it to reach my expectations, but it's still a hell of a lot better than school.Sweet, thanks. At the moment it still seems very basic and entry level. I'm in France for my 3rd year too (doing a 4 year course).
| anarchistfish Pretty good. Workload's gone insane lately though. Even the other geographers are complaining about it and they don't have the extra 6 hours of language open units a week which drag half my days on til 6-7pm and for which I have exams next week. Otherwise it's good although relationships with flatmates can get strained. How's Lancaster?
| anarchistfish There's literally one mixed race girl out of 155~ and that's it.I actually like the idea of sociology. Sometimes wish I'd taken something like psychology or history instead cos that kind of stuff interests me a lot. Tried to take social psychology as an open unit but it clashed with my geography so I couldn't.Always wonder what it would've been like if I'd gone Nottingham or Exeter instead.
| anarchistfish 1st year Bristol. Soooo many white posh girls man. For a "study of the world" subject it's insanely non-internationalist.
| CK Urgh I really wish I preordered this one, though I've preordered their past three so I can't say I haven't done my part in being a loyal fan hah. How does it stand against Departure Songs?
| LilLioness It is definitely one of the most eye catching on here.
| LilLioness I am curious what your forum pic is of.
| OmairSh Dude you might like some stuff on my new list
| CK I don't think I ever straight up told you this but I love you for the fact that you share my undying love for Hammock
| DecayingMajesty Your comments suggested you did. I apologise for accusing you, I've been taking everything that everybody says to literally lately :)
| DecayingMajesty Its obvious you dislike me with a strong intent. What is your problem?
| OmairSh "Not really possible for her to look bad" Ma man, they say the truth hurts, I guess what hurts is that I'll never get to meet her.........Unnless
| OmairSh My mumps, my mumps my mumps my mumps, my lovely lady mumps
| Frippertronics http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=972683Will be playing the enid discog two weeks on plug.dj if you want to join...
