Definitely the best thing that Corgan has done since Mellen Collie. I'm only on my second play through, but I am loving this so far.

I agree the classic band played and sounded better live and in studio but for all intents and purposes the band's classic material was written, composed, and played in-studio by Billy Corgan, as have 90% of their songs. Functioning unit of equals? Ever read about the making of Siamese Dream? Or heard that their keyboard player DIED in a drug o.d. with Jimmy Chamberlain? And that D'Arcy was fired because she was a crackhead? But a reallllll fan would know that lol... I wore out two Siamese Dream cassettes and Mellon Collie was the first CD I ever owned btw

I know this album is going to get a lot of hate, I myself was not really looking forward to it after all, the smashing pumpkins have not done anything worth listing to since Adore. Then in preparation for this album I went back to listen to Teargarden by Kaleidyscope (which is absolutely terrible). So I was not that excited. So I went to iTunes today and I saw an add for Oceania, so I gave it a listen. Im not going to say its the a perfect album, but I really enjoyed the album. There are maybe two songs I don?t care for which is a vast improvement from Zietgist. Where I found myself only liking two songs. The only complaint I have with this album really is the production. It just seemed really off in some parts. My favorite aspect of this album would have to be when it seems every other instrument stops and its just Billy and his guitar. I just love it when that happens throughout the album. So I would recommend any former or current fans of the pumpkins to check it out you might be surprised how much you find yourself enjoying it. rTop Tracks: Panopticon, Pinwheels, and Oceania.r

I did not expect the album to be THIS good, every song is beautiful and memorable in its own right. I already liked the band, but Oceania really sealed the deal, although over time it kinda wore off me

I've only in the last few months started listening to The Smashing Pumpkins, but it's been a LONG time
coming. So taking a little detour, skipping from Adore to Oceania (as any listener should never do), there is a
certain amount of culture shock. It's a great deal different, going rockier in the ways of Mellon Collie and
Siamese Dreams, but also with an air of whimsy unseen from the band before, with light backing vocals and a
little synthetic glitter here and there. The sound may have evolved a little, but the music is just as epic,
beautiful, and as enjoyable as its always been.

Way better than expected. It has a few duds here and there but as a whole this is the most inspired sounding thing that Corgan has made in over a decade.

The musicianship and music composition of all the songs on Oceania is very admirable and good. The whole album is a blur to me though. None of the songs stand out. There is no catchy riffs or catchy lyrics. Perhaps billy corgan surrounded himself with musicians that are too competent. I can imagine the whole group could play any style of music that they wish much like billy can. I admire billy corgan and the rest of the smashing pumpkins for the work they obviously put into this album. Its not very memorable though. My favorite songs on this album are Quasar, Panopticon, and The Chimera.
