4.5 superb | Resident Metalhead Piranha | July 3rd 17 | Forbidden's debut is a stunning album and one of the best thrash debuts out there, and they up the ante with their more progressive bound Twisted Into Form. Lead guitarist Tim Calvert proves just as good as previous guitarist Glen Alvelais with a moodier style of playing. In fact, in addition to being more progressive in style, TIF is a darker album, and vocalist Russ Anderson further proves himself as the definitive vocalist of Forbidden. the production values, like its predecessor, are also a genre highlight, clear as day yet full of clarity and not without a sharp edge to it. Opener "Parting of The Ways" and "Infinite" opens with an eerie acoustic passage then explodes into an album highlight with adventurous progression and guitar wizardry. I like their debut a little better, but Twisted Into Form is an outstanding prog. thrash album and their creative peak.

2.5 average | Bedex | April 4th 20 | This one feels like it is older than their first LP, not its successor. It reminds of heavy metal a lot more, and feels generally far less aggressive and headbangy, probably partly owing to prod, but also to a generally lowered tempo throughout the record - or so it feels at least. It also has more of a beer metal, boringly anthemic flavour to it than its pounding predecessor. The wankeriness is way way down, albeit not fully gone, both in terms of silly vocals and boring solos. This makes the low point far less low than on the prior LP, and this one is scarcely properly annoying. But it is also far more bland and skippable, with no real high points I'll retain. Sure 3,6, and 8 starts kind of nice and aggressive, but they all unfold boringly. The intro track and instrumental interlude on 7 are also nice, but very short. I was going to rate this somewhere around 3.0 or just sub 3.0, but starting from mid 8 this started to go down, and especially because of the protracted 9 that gets really boring and takes forever to finish the album, the record ends up at a mere 2.7

2.0 poor | ManiacBlasphemer | October 18th 19 | For many years, if not decades, I have given this album many chances, trying to understand why it gets at least half of the praises it unworthily gets and I still can't find a reason why this album is so praised as a sort of thrash classic. Forbidden has always been a 3rd tier 80s thrash band who set for itself great ambitions but they did not have the chops to achieve them. Simply put, they had no good sense for catchy melodies, they have a tendency to go into technical wankery, they tend to cram mutually exclusive riffs in some songs, creating literally a riff salad and the songs, particularly on this album, lack the energy of even more melodic thrash bands. Apparently, the last Dark Angel album was influenced by this album so now I understand why their last album was so atonal. Only highlights are tracks 6 and 8, but they are merely solid tracks, nothing great about them. The rest is pretty much forgettable. Get the 3rd album. Despite the rating, it has 4 good to great tracks.
