0.0 | breakingthefragile | October 2nd 12 | This primarily seems like a record of a wide array of influences, influences harvested from
every decade since the 1960's. It's purpose seems to be to show off these influences with a
distinct central style that plays well off of all of them, and while it's not as hook-
reliant as Hot Fuss or Sam's Town, the true intrigue lies in Battle
Born's concealed complexity, how the record is well put together enough that all these
aspects are apparent but not shoved in your face. It strikes a balance between bombastically
over the top and subtlety, and The Killer's newly obtained gruff of age is a welcome
addition when it helps The Killer's make more grown-up and solid brit rock such as this.

2.0 poor | Rudy K. EMERITUS | September 15th 12 | It's hard to choose a favorite among so many great tracks, but "From Here On Out" is one of the best, most powerful songs ever written about self-preservation, dignity. Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it's not too late to better ourselves. Since, Elizabeth, it's impossible in this world we live in to empathize with others, we can always empathize with ourselves. It's an important message, crucial really. And it's beautifully stated on the album.

4.0 excellent | Rawrz | September 13th 12 | The more I listen to it the more I love it. Reminds me a lot of Sam's Town which was always my favorite Killers album. It drags at times towards the middle but songs like Runaways, Miss Atomic Bomb, The Rising Tide and Battle Born are so good.

0.0 | thelamestallion | September 29th 18 | It was a strange experience to refresh this album after a several years of silence. Back in
the day I called it naive and pompous, dumb and clicheed lyrically, formulaic and primitive
musically, but honestly still keeping it in mind I completely fell for this naivety,
pomposity and so on with this one single listen yesterday. It was such a fulfilling
experience. Mostly it was a little biased, spiteful and pretentious nerd in me who was
hating on this album back when I was 17 or so, on my first listen. Now I can't help but sing
along to every single song. The album is filled with some immensely infectious altruistic
energy which is so lacking (sadly deservedly) nowadays. I mean, what's bad in timeless
topics of love, hope, nostalgia, happiness and optimism, especially delivered with this
level of quality? Yeah, they are expressed with simple and a bit tired words, but I think
this is exactly how it should be; these are things that should not be overthought. And I
also think it's quite symptomatic sociologically when this subject matter draws this much
rejection. I think The Killers is one of the mainstream bands that are undeservedly insulted
by a toxic juvenile snobism (and this is becoming some kind of a weird and sorrowful
tradition).

3.5 great | Supertails | September 19th 12 | This was simultaneously disappointing and awesome. Disappointing because most of it wasn't all that great. Awesome because when it was good it was very, very good. They seem to be really uneven when it comes to slower tracks, because it was higher-energy ones driven by energetic guitar riffs that shined the most. Runaways was just amazing, my favourite song off of it by far, followed by the title track. One good slow song that they did, though, was Heart of a Girl. It was simple and melodic. So hopefully they either work on their slow tracks or make sure to have the next album more filled with energy, because there's a lot of potential there.

1.5 very poor | SmileNerd | September 25th 15 | This album is trying its hardest to be emotional but it ends up sounding vapid af.

3.0 good | Tiberone | May 16th 13 | For all of its fame in producing the lyrical head-scratcher "Human," 2008's Day & Age was perhaps most notable for its
inclusion of the first truly bad Killers song in "Joy Ride." Unfortunately, the chinks in the armor are spreading on 'Battle
Born.' The less appealing tracks on the group's least consistent album yet range from peculiar ("From Here On Out") to
forgettable ("Deadlines and Commitments") and even downright awful ("Here With Me"). And at 12 tracks long, one
couldn't help but think that at least one of these could have been cut from the album. But a number of other songs are
guided by an undeniable emotional force carrying Brandon Flowers to new heights as he intones, "there's no surrender,
'cause there's no retreat" among "the wreckage of broken dreams and burned-out halos." After a rocky ride, The Killers
reward dedicated listeners with the epic title track closer, which is among the best songs the band has ever produced. In
the end, there is no choice but to average the album's good with its bad, leaving the overall experience somewhere in the
middle.
Standout tracks: Battle Born, Runaways, The Way It Was

0.0 | Steoandnoodles | September 21st 12 | The album has its moments for me. The dark night glitter filled production and the epic,
burning heart anthemic themes serve for a really heart on the line listen in my opinion and
yeah, I definitely think these songs could reach out to someone. For me though, the problem
is that with every beautiful sound I hear; that sound is punctuated so bluntly under the
thin line of casual chords and gentle synth crooning across the influence of the typical
beat, that I feel nothing happens ever in this album. It actually annoys me because I really
like some of the sounds on this album but they're used so poorly in my opinion it's
unfortunate. It's one of those cases where I like something about the album and I know that
others love it too but it's just not clicking the full way with me. I wish it was just that
hint less of a pop album.

2.5 average | neilcon21 | September 12th 12 | Only once through, but so far no songs stick out as instant classics. This album doesn't throw any surprises at you, but it has a decent sound to it. Lyrically it isn't brilliant but it isn't their worst outing either (that would be day and age)

3.0 good | iGuter | September 11th 12 | The Killers follow their journey to an inspired, heartland rock sound that has a bigger '80s vibe than any of their previous albums. This will probably be undervalued just like their last album "Day & Age" but for hardcore fans of The Killers, this is an album worth checking out.r
