We all know it deep down inside. "Call Me Maybe" is a true bop. If Justin Bieber didn't stuff things up with a tune so sickly sweet it may as well be on Playschool this may be as consistent as Emotion.

Apart from "Call Me Maybe", I had never listened to this before. It's much more teen pop-oriented than EMOTION, at the expense of these sweet sweet synths. It does not work as well, as it mostly sounds like generic summer pop anthems with cliche lyrics and bad features.

With this album Carly completely moves away from the acoustic guitar ballad, Christian pop style of her debut LP to fully go into kick snare sidechain synth generic American summer pop, and it hardly, hardly ever works. The only exception is 9 which keeps the ballad style she displayed previously, but is nauseatingly naive. In fact, the album as a whole feels nauseatingly naive to varying degrees, with simplistic instrumentals, generic as it gets compositions, and cringy lyrics that are so cliché you can often predict them. The tracks also almost all feel repetitive in a bad way. By 6 I had disconnected from the album completely, and the second half almost pushed this down to 1.0 range, with 7-11 being unbearable, especially 10-11 which are just horrible. Thankfully the closer is vaguely ok and at least bareable. 1-2 is also very annoying despite the presence of 'slap bass' on 1, and a tbh catchy chorus on 2. As we know from Curiosity 3 is a jam and the only track I'd ever come back to here (saving it all from 1.0 range). Feels like 2 but so much better and catchier. 4 starts ok but boasts an awful chorus, and 5 has horrible guest vox that make the track even worse than it was. Just a hair above 1.0 range really. 1.3

And here we have the same problem that dragged Justin Bieber down to the bottom of the barrel. We have a lead-off single that is completely terrible (Call Me Maybe) that gets played and referenced everywhere. It's really sad that this is what popular music has resorted to.

While the Curiosity EP showed potential, this is easily one of the most generic albums I've ever heard. It's pretty much all "poppy synths + crush/breakup/cute guy + catchy chorus = song". There were a couple alright parts, like Almost Said It, but for the most part I'm not impressed at all. She even took the best song from the EP, the title track Curiosity, and made it worse and more generic.

This album is today's pop music at its best. Some of the songs seem to run together at times, but
less so than most other pop albums. CRJ has positioned herself to be Katy Perry's successor --
whenever that may be.
