The first Fufu album to go on the Billboard, how crazy is that? Gotta thank the whole indie scene's good health at the time, but also how good of a summary it was for the band at that time: it captures their blend of belligerence and angular riffs, noise antics as well as their most vulnerable side. It's, so far, the Fugazi album that requires the most work to get into, clearly being the most experimental and weird of their career's first part. The increased experimentation will later shine more obviously on Red Medicine and The Argument, but their will to continuously push their musical identity forward is already palpable.

Fugazi has always been one of those bands that I feel I should like a whole lot more, based on my other tastes, and my feelings towards Minor Threat. And while I do enjoy Repeater, the rest of their work has fallen flat to me. Fugazi are at their best when Ian is behind the mic, and that's usually only for half of the album. Guy is not the worst singer ever, and his guitar playing is integral to the band's sound, but he can get extremely obnoxious at times, especially his hooks. I like the guitar sounds, the experimental nature, and the band can play for sure, but it just doesn't amount to anything interesting. Best songs are Facet Squared, Returning the Screw, Cassavettes and Great Cop.

Fugazi is a very consistent band with a unique sound. In On the Kill Taker is a heavier and
noisier affair that builds on what we heard on their last album, Steady Diet of Nothing.
There are some interesting noise sections peppered throughout the album, a notable one being the
end of "23 Beats Off". Their production is always quite raw, but clear and well-suited to their
sound. "Sweet and Low" is a laid-back jam which is the highlight of the record. With a few minor
tweaks to their sound, this is par for the course for Fugazi, which is by no means a bad thing at
all. 4/5

Capturing pugnacity while also barely forgetting the importance of a systematic approach, In on the Kill Taker without question makes for a lucrative escapade for Fugazi enthusiasts and quite possibly lovers of the post-hardcore sound in general. From a songwriting perspective, various aspects on the album give every indication of being thoughtful and seem to bloom with instant vehemence.
