4.5 superb | Shinde | January 2nd 08 | The Mayan Factor's first album, In Lake' Ch, is a great example of how music is suppose to be made. The acoustics of all the instruments, including the vocals, blend seamlessly. The sound is dark yet satisfying and calming. The album ebbs and flows through each track. From the first track "Warflower" all the way to the end of the album with "Focus/Reborn" the listener is left with satisfaction. They truly have a mastery of music. This can be seen on their track "Son Of Sam/Prophecy" where Ray makes nu metal artists like Limp Bizkit wish they had the ability to "spit rhymes" as he tackles on a Rap/Funk approach vocally towards the end of the song.
For what it's worth, In Lake' Ch is worth the money. It is definitely an album any music lover will at least enjoy listening to once, if not over and over again.

4.0 excellent | Antonius | January 2nd 24 | In Lake' Ch was one of those albums that found me randomly and ended up getting endless repeats. I found the music leaning towards an alternative type/genre rather than a progressive one, even though the majority of the tracks clock over five minutes. Ray-Ray's vocals throughout the release are clean, calm and sorrowful. It's not a hyperbole to state that they are the defining characteristic of the band's music. The opening track 'Warflower' is coherent, balanced and possibly the album's best track. Ray's tone in the album's first half is composed, melancholic and often depressive with 'Beauty and the Beast' being a tremendous example of emotion and delicacy in his vocals.
The second half is stronger and more diverse. 'Foreplay' is the track that highlights the notable shift in the music as the band sounds heavier and more direct. Ray-Ray's vocals have an angst-ridden character and right in the middle part of 'Son of Sam' where he unleashes a fantastic rap section, they become aggressive as well. There were many points throughout the album when a track was building momentum and you expected Ray to burst but he rarely did. Well, in 'Going to Pieces' he explodes and he does so in a stunning way. Even more stunning is the way that the verse from the opening track is thrown at the end, making everything a full circle.
Recommendations: "Warflower", "Forplay", "Son of Sam", "Going to Pieces", "Focus", "Aim For the Sky"

3.5 great | Britch2tiger | September 5th 15 | This band played very well, but I don't know why or how this group segued off course so quickly in this album. Tracks 1-5 were awesome, and then tracks 6 & 8 (technically 8 + 9) thought that a necessary measure to enhance those tracks on the album was to incorporate a "hip-hop delivery" instead of the singing as they had in the rest of their songs. Track 7 also took an odd additive of metal, which also felt a bit out of place compared to their first 5 tracks... Overall, the first half was REALLY good, but tracks 6-8 felt out of place. In short, tracks 1-5, plus 7 would've made for a killer 6-song EP (potentially 4-4.5/5).

2.5 average | kingsoby1 EMERITUS | March 22nd 13 | An art rock group from Baltimore, The Mayan Factor have an ethnic sound, using atmospheric percussion (kongas and drums), acoustic guitars, various keyboard samples and tribal bass to an melodic, intense effect. The Mayan Factor could equally be called progressive rock as they could be lumped into the space rock category, one thing setting them apart from most artists in these genres is that the vocalist raps on occasion. Don't let this deter you, because it's an altogether interesting and one of a kind experience.

0.0 | Wreath | April 23rd 12 | Supposedly this is some kind of unequaled chef d'oeuvre in the progressive/alt rock genre so I'm sorry to say that all I hear is a collection of solid albeit mostly quite tame songs and it's in no way particularly superior to any other kind of music I've heard.

5.0 classic | North0House2 | March 21st 11 | I decided to bump this to a 5. It's pure art.rThe band had such talent, it's a shame the vocalist had to hit the end so soon.rI miss the knowledge of their presence more and more every day.

4.5 superb | iswimfast | July 12th 10 | The overall flow and feel of this album are nothing short of spectacular. There are
definitely a few instances where his voice becomes slightly overbearing and over the top,
but they are way to few and far between for it to warrant any lower of a rating. Warflower
and Sons of Sam - Propecy are absolutely terrific songs. Beauty and the Beast and Focus -
Reborn are also outstanding. I never thought I'd enjoy rapping over acoustic guitar.
This is honestly a must have for any progressive rock fan.

3.5 great | DrKilljoy | December 2nd 09 | Great debut album. Could have been better without the whole rapping thing, it kind of drags it down. Nevertheless, I recommend it.
