Born Sinner is the best rap album of 2013 and a modern classic. This album is a huge step up from his debut album. J. Cole's story telling is incredible. His rhymes are very colorful and they paint a picture in your head. Not many rappers these days have the ability to tell a story like him. Cole's lyrics and flow were both impressive. He raps about deep and relevant subject matters such as the Illuminati, his idols, self love, and love. His lyrics can relate to the average man and woman and his melodic rhymes are nice. This album really showcases J. Cole's writing/lyrical and production ability. The production was top notch. It had an unique sound and had brilliant samples. Born Sinner is one of those album were every song is good and entertaining and you don't have to skip a single song. This album is one of my personal favorite albums and you could listen to it forever and not get tired of it. Born Sinner is a criminally underrated masterpiece. I suggest it to all rap fans (especially those who are fond of east coast hip hop) and those who are new to J. Cole's music or those who doubt his talent and skills.

J. Cole's Born Sinner is easily his best in my mind. With skilled production and lyrical prowess in songs like "Villuminati", "Rich Niggaz" and "Born Sinner", and an ear for pop hooks (see "Crooked Smile") there is definitely a lot to enjoy here. The sparing use of guest spots is nice too, seeing as lot of mainstream hip-hop releases seem to be flooded with them lately. The only issue is that nothing here really breaks the mold, and sometimes I feel like I'm just listening to some amalgamation of all the other big rappers in the game right now.

What's good here is very good, but what isn't good is pretty horrible. It's difficult to admit an expectation-ridden album doesn't fit the bill, but all J. Cole gives us with Born Sinner is a handful of greatness enveloped by truly average cuts filled with the same bitches-ain't-shit tropes. See Power Trip, Runaway, Rich Niggaz, and maybe Villuminati for the great.

Tight, diverse production, meaningful lyrics, classic Cole flow. After the somewhat disappointing Sideline Story, Cole redeems himself in the biggest way. Every song is legitimate! Every. Song.
