This is not mediocre you fucking hot air balloon. One of the best releases of 2013, matches
the mesmerizing qualities of Shadows of the Sun in that although they are not alike
musically, they are both hauntingly beautiful. A very exciting release that even someone
with as horrible taste as (insert synonym for andcas here) would enjoy it.

Ulver reinvent neoclassicism for the 21st century, subtly incorporating electronics and
ambiance. Somewhat of an acquired taste, but absolutely fantastic. Butthurt simple minded

Ulver are back. If you had any doubts following the release of Wars of the Roses you can set those aside. As the band stated, Messe does indeed feel like a companion piece to Shadows of the Sun and Teachings in Silence.

Darn it there really isn't anything Ulver can't do. Ambient/Dark ambient bordering on orchestral, WWII documentary soundtrack. The album is phenomenal and works very well in creating a dark, chilling atmosphere. The opening track is gorgeous, and the only low point point I found was 'Son of Man', or the singer's input in general. A solid 4.2

"Glamour box (ostinati)" is absolutely amazing. The rest of the album is strong as well; very dark and atmospheric. If you liked Shadows of the Sun and Wars of the Roses you'll like this too: it's stronger than the latter, and at least on par with the former. My one complaint is that I wish Garm had more vocals throughout, as he only appears on a couple of the tracks here. However, regardless this is still an incredible album, and one of the best of the year.

Messe I.X-VI.X feels like an unconscious attempt of combining the tidal/orchestral vibes of Svid Negger, the ethereal texture of Shadows Of The Sun and the minimal affair of Lycanthropen Themes. The result is a great, but a definitely "lesser" offspring than its parents...
