Bands tend to make their best music when they've got something to prove. For all too many bands this is their first album, trying to cement themselves as important among the hordes of other bands. Rare for an established band, Against Me! have two tries at the plate here, with them being off their major label and Laura going public with the gender dysphoria she faced for years. And damnit, they step up to the plate and deliver their best album yet. The fire and venom in tracks like Drinking With the Jocks and Black Me Out is undeniable. These are the songs she's kept pent up for years, only offering glimmers in earlier songs like The Ocean. Years of rage, confusion, fear, pain, and hope put to disk, and one of the most important albums to release in years.

A girl trapped inside a boy's body shouts her angriness away in the form of punk rock: The Album. The heartland and Springsteen influences are toned down here, and it's for the best: the late 90s punk vibe work perfectly with what remains of Springsteen-esque anthems and hooks. Laura Jane Grace's visceral preach self-discovery and acceptance couldn't have found a better musical background: these are the best Against Me! songs sinceReinventing Axl Rose.

I don't know if it is the fiery passion and invigorated spirit from finally coming out that gave her the energy for this album, but after most of their discography falling absolutely flat for me, 'Transgender Dysphoria Blues' is finally a solid album, vocally strong and memorable in melodies. Some songs fall a little short and don't punch nearly as hard as they could have, but they are not prevalent.

Important record for people like me. Without Laura Jane Grace we couldn't be ourselves and we need anthems like this in order to feel like we have some kind of validation or representation in society. It helps that the songs are fucking good. Where has this record been all my life?

Perhaps one of the most inspirational punk rock albums to have ever come out this entire year, at an unsurprisingly gracious 28 minutes at that. I can't really think of any flaws regarding Transgender Dysphoria Blues, though it isn't necessarily a perfect record. Laura Jane Grace gives it her all, while the rest of Against Me! bring forth infectious, old-school riffs and unforgettable choruses.

Extremely beautiful lead guitar, really passionate voice, words of authentic emotions. This is a solid album! Favorite songs: Unconditional Love, Paralytic State, but espacially Obama Bin Laden... and Black Me Out.
