Almost their best album; somehow, they would surpass this with Apple Venus Volume 1, which takes the best aspects of Skylarking to new extremes and abstractions with better songs. But by this time in the '80s, XTC had never made a better and more consistently fascinating album, and this is loaded with otherworldly melodies and effects. Rating: A.
