Nick Cave has always been a musician who showed a very sober, morbid and melancholic face to me. This kind of feeling comes true in works like "The Good Son". Although i don't like the opening song very much, even though i'm a Brazilian from birth, i see that Cave's big problem was the placement of the songs and the call for repetition of the chorus and some heavier and more mellow vocal lines. Other than that, the record is valid and composes well a discography that is almost flawless.

Moving away from the rib-rattling Gothic blues of their first decade, the Bad Seeds took the creative risk of an album lushly layered with piano and vibraphone. The songwriting had not taken a similar leap with Cave's Biblical parables and preaching still providing the narrative. The most significant advance is 'The Ship Song', a strong contender today for the Australian's best ballad.

Easily one of the most beautifully divine albums I've ever heard of in my life, Nick Cave is a incredibly brilliant poet and songwriter. Every single song here is a quintessential masterpiece perfect for the nighttime or winter, with themes revolving around intense heartbreak, sorrow, everlasting yearning, and a heap of joy. One of the most intellectually grandiose break-up albums ever in my opinion
