Its not as good or as heavy as The Flood, and Shayley brought something unique to the band that feels missing here. The production on that album was near perfect as well. That being said, Aaron shines the most on this album and there are some really great melodies on a lot of these tracks. Austin isn't up to par with his past performances, but he has his moments, most notably on You Make Me Sick. Overall its solid though, and they made a great move choosing Aaron as their new clean vocalist.

Restoring Force is largely devoid of soul, as Of Mice and Men add elements of nu metal into the metalcore drainage pipe in order to stay as relevant as possible within their scene; yes, this kinda works to their advantage since it means a bigger fanbase and all, but the banal joyride stops there. The band seems more than obligated to copy and paste almost every trick in the book, thereby creating a record which is so extremely predictable there's no humor nor logic. Aaron Pauley's (bless his heart) cleans can't even save this pitiful offering due to how in-your-face Austin Carlile is about 78% of Restoring Force's 38-minute duration, and the guitar work wouldn't be so bad if I haven't heard of these compositions previously.

Going into this album expecting a mediocre and boring dub-metal album, I was actually quite surprised once the first track hit my ears. This is a surprisingly great album. 2 Bumps \| Bump

Not as bad as I anticipated to be. Austin Carlile and the guitars certainly put a huge rmainstream spin on the album and other parts just uses the basic metelcore formula which rfuses and creates a new sound that has not been heard in this genre. So my hat is tipped to rthat, but there is still a generic presence wrapped around the album and has less heart than rtheir previous releases.

This is actually so derivative of so many outdated and immature musical concepts, that it's kind of comparable to a middle-aged man going back to middle school even though he graduated long ago, and then trying to join the basketball team and getting pissed that he's taller than the hoop itself. This is realistically a 1/5 on the grounds that there is no better example of the current regression in metalcore as a whole, but these guys deserve an extra increment for impressively being able to describe their own sound in the most inept way possible: "fusion between Meshuggah and Nickelback." - Austin Carlile
