4.0 excellent | Allhailburnzy | June 3rd 14 | Reminds me of the Say Anything I've grown to love snarky, and over the top (Huge improvement over Anarchy)

4.0 excellent | Deadwing42 | June 2nd 14 | Rating subject to change.... I imagine it will fade to a 3.0. I like it a lot though. Maxy
has some heart (and venom) again. Keep in mind I'm one of the many who couldn't even make it
through Anarchy My Dear.

4.5 superb | 3waycrash | January 24th 16 | The most personal album by Say Anything or rather the man behind it. Hebrews offers a biographical look into the life of Max Bemis with his past, present, and future. The song topics range from his addiction with drugs and drinking, injustices against his Jewish heritage, his new marriage, his relationship with certain fans demanding that he go back to the way he used to be, being a father, his fears for his daughter, and more. Musically it's as eccentric as the experimental styles on In Defense of the Genre, and it even features a bevy of guest vocalists. Bemis sounds passionate and aggressive again, but this time coming from a man with a more mature perspective. This is Bemis being as open and honest as he ever has; it's fun, crazy, brash, cathartic, and even a bit of an emotional ride.

4.5 superb | Mlochen42 | August 29th 14 | The first time I listened to this album I was kind of confused. I wasn't sure what Max was thinking with a lot of the lyrics and his "harsher" style of vocals, but a few runs through the album and it started to grow on me immensely. rEveryone was waiting for the second ...Is a Real Boy album to come out, but I think that Hebrews shows a much more mature Max, and all of Say Anything for that matter. I've seen people talk about how Say Anything is "ruined" and "selling-out" but personally I love where they are going with their music. Max is finally happy, and his music is reflecting that. If you're a fan of Say Anything, you should definitely be able to enjoy this album, especially because Max's lyrics are astonishing.

3.5 great | nevertamethewildones | August 7th 14 | Though there are some great songs on this release, I still cannot get passed the self deprecating nature of Bemis.

3.5 great | SpinLightTwo | July 11th 14 | Is this record relevant without knowing anything about the band
prior to this record? Why the fuck is his fucking wife on every fucking song? Is
she really contributing anything that another artist couldn't? Bemis, you are still
kind of lame.

2.0 poor | Trey STAFF | June 18th 14 | Give me an instrumental version of this and I'd love it. This is musically ambitious alt. rock with all kinds of other influences. The vocalist is annoying as fuck, though.

3.0 good | MusicBoxSuperhero | June 15th 14 | The good:rMax sounds passionate again. Anarchy, My Dear struggled with Max's concept (at least from pre-album interviews) of being a political and social statement with little political/social content in the lyrics, and the lax attempts at piecing together the sound of the Dormroom Demos with the pop feel of the self titled album. Max is very protective and defensive of his family and art, and it shows here. rThe Bad:rProduction. While Jeremy Larson played violin, viola and cello parts on the songs, the string parts are overcompressed and sound more like bad MIDI programming. Drums are pushed high in the mix, Max's push to sing in his harsher, spittle-flying-everywhere style sounds like a parody of previous albums, and why, on an album hyped as guitar-free, does he feel the need to add a synth solo that is supposed to sound like a guitar?rThe Ugly:rSA have always had lyrics that swing from hilarious and sarcastic (Admit It!) to over the top, poorly structured attacks on strawmen who talk trash about Max's music and family (Admit It Again!). This album is more of the same.

3.5 great | InFiction | June 9th 14 | Once you get past the gimmicky absence of guitars, Hebrews is an album that features some of the group's best songs to date. After the train-wreck that was Anarchy, My Dear I was very concerned about Say Anything's future, but luckily enough to be proved wrong.

3.0 good | Crymsonblaze | June 3rd 14 | Although a bit gimmicky, the album has a surprising amount of heart and ambition not seen for a couple of albums mixed in with the typical Max Bemis flare and gusto.
