The entwinement of softly minimal rave-dayz homage and cutesy commercial aspects is bound to garner some hate from apprehensive electronic aficionados, and I'd have to concur that there is a breezy elementariness to these compositions that can suggest banality - but given the harmony between the two fields, I'd also say it's for a decent enough cause. You could do much, much worse than "Gosh", "Hold Tight" and "The Rest is Noise" for doing alot with a little, the mood-tone is fun yet never obtrusive, the actual vocal tracks desultorily shoved in with the sampled vocal tracks are the crucial dimension - fellow xx'ers slip in some intimacy assistance and emphasize the club motif with foreseeable ease, while the Young Thug+Popcaan cameo is legitimately electrifying, refreshingly edgy, and a total curveball.

When all is said and done, Jamie xx really knows how to write a pop song, and this album is chock-full of that pop mastery writ large upon peak-hour rave from Room 1 and hollower downtempo from Room 2. Highly recommended.

solid UK garage from The xx's Jamie Smith. would be better if not for a couple stray turds mucking it up. for the
most part, ear-tickling bass, some memorable melodies, lofty builds and neat background noises. the first half is
significantly better. "Stranger in a Room" is negligible and "I Know There's Gonna Be (Good Times)" is comically bad, and
fucks up the
flow of the album. the first 4 tracks are rad, though.

A dance album with a strong pop knack, In Colour smashes Jamie XX's influences together in a damn well-structured manner. If jungle, club attitude, profound bass, and two-step's foot-stomping vibe all fight to get the lead, it's more in how lil melodies snatch the attention to the already-dope beat or how hooks function as - uh - hooks without many toplines that In Colour manages to be a complex record whose minimalism almost never trades places with lack of oomph.

I'm not returning to listen to this album as much as I thought I would, but there is plenty of great material on it. Some tracks just drag on or there's too little in another which hurts the album to me.

I don't see, how can a pop album be 'classic', 'superb' or 'excellent', but the problem is maybe with me. Here, you get, what it is: a summer syrup album. If You need this, let it be. I think I'll stick to Demdike Stare's Patchwork for example.
