First things first, we all know black tongue's early work is complete shit. Well, maybe not if you're a brocore enthusiast, but anyway, Yes, black tongue did actually experiment with atmosphere on their debut LP like they said they would. There were some clean guitars and some arpeggios behind the bro-downs kind of like how the acacia strain does, but with about half the speed and energy. The songs typically dragged on several minutes more than they needed, and at times this album felt extremely boring and sluggish. On the other hand, this album was not without a solid moment here and there. The first two songs are pretty solid and there is flashes of decency throughout the record. The way "Plague Worship" builds up is pretty sick, and the sheer heaviness of this record, while monotonous, can be enjoyable at times. To summarize, black tongue make a huge improvement from their early work, but fail to fully capture the atmospheric soundscapes they go for on this record, and still need to kick the awful tendencies they have (br00tal breakdowns within breakdowns of br00tal chugging, dragging songs too long, etc.) rFinal Verdict: 2.3/5

I'll take UK-based snailcore outfit Black Tongue's debut full-length record over their EPs in an instant. Even though it's by no means a major improvement, The Unconquerable Dark is a tad entertaining in places and showcases a band that wants to rectify the issues that plagued thir last two releases (Born Hanged, I'm talking to you in particular). The first half of this album's nice for what it is, but the latter section is kind of stationery. I'm also digging the cover illustration here, too.

Some signs of improvement here. The songs here are starting to actually sound like songs rather than just 3-4 minute breakdowns, but there are too many times where it just isn't interesting enough. Certainly a step in the right direction from their previous work though.

L?appel du Vide shows some promise for this band. While I don't expect this album to be good, it seems to be a little better than their previous releases.
