A rather boring album, almost every song has a completely similar song structure, relying on the same cheap gimmicks, strong but unfortunately unfitting vocals with boring and extremely repetitive riffs, Suicide Silence is a deathcore band that really didn't show any promise with this debut.

Instrumentally, this is typical death metal, nothing special. Vocally is where this album is annoying: there are a lot of switchbacks between deep growls and high-pitched screams, which gets annoying. Both are OK or not so good. Finally, the album just became boring to listen to in some parts.

For someone just getting into deathcore/metalcore related music (someone unexperianced in metal..and music as a whole), this may seem like the perfect album. But in all honesty this album is just plain juvenile and poor, full of forgettable riffs and boring song structures. I sat down and gave it a listen after hearing so much praise over it from other students, and holy shit, was that a huge mistake. Mitch Lucker could probably do good in a more eccentric, creative band.. matter of fact, he's probably the best part of the band...Aside from his lyrics, which are comparable to something a pissed off 7th grader would write. Considering the drums, guitar, bass, and any other shit they stuffed into this album are all very generic. So, bottom of the line, this album is just a short yawn.

I went to give this album a two but my freakin finger slipped. This album for sure is not worthy of being called 'good'. Most tracks are fairly simple and the drummer is the only player that stands out as skilled at his instrument.
Mediocre Deathcore at best, bland sameness at worst.

The Cleansing takes up various problems in this world. The lyrics are well written with thougts behind it. It's delivered brutal and violent by some insane vocals. Mitch got a tune which i belive is not unique but special, he shows such a clear tune that the songs really gets a meaning. Other then the vocals, the drumming is really good and gives us some high class breakdowns. Still The Cleansing is following the latest trend of deathcore as we know it and it might only appeal to the really fans of this genre.

'Unanswered', 'Hands of a Killer' and 'No Pity for a Coward' are pretty good songs and the unrelenting heaviness is kind of fun. Unfortunately the songs bleed out into an undefined mess and the lack of variation kills the momentum making 'The Cleansing' a bit of a chore to get through.

There really wasn't much that The Cleansing, Suicide Silence's debut, had to offer. It's your typical deathcore album with the even more usual breakdown approach. Mitch Lucker, bless his heart, couldn't even bother to deliver growls that could transcend a sodomized Donald Duck. All in all, however, this isn't that horrendous of a first impression...

Songs such as Unanswered, Hands of a Killer, No Pity For A Coward and Bludgeoned to Death are pretty fun, but the rest of the album doesn't vary enough from this template to remain interesting.

hard to give this a 4 but this album does have some insane tracks like in a photograph follows up from the fallen, the disease and green monster are good too insane is a better word one of my fav. albums

I really don't understand why so many people like this band so much. The production is muddy, the musicianship is extrememly bland, and it is very clear that these guys have absolutely no interest in doing anything even remotely original. They are heavy, that's for sure, but some people can only take so much of the same. I have to force my way through this album. Nuff said.

While there is no lyrical ability on this album, the screaming guitars and explosive blast beats make up for a little bit of the stuff that's lost. I liked how the vocals sounded. I didn't like that they were fake. I saw Suicide Silence in concert... And maybe it wasn't his night.. But likewise Mitch Lucker sang half of their songs. And it sucked. NEVER SEE THEM IN CONCERT. EVER.

Nothing new and exciting, but definitely fun to listen to if you're in a break-something mood. Breakdowns, although too frequent, are, for the most part well done and if you're a deathcore fan you'll like it.
