5.0 classic | Zackkkk | October 23rd 15 | This is probably the most soul stirringly, cathartic metal record I've ever heard. There are moments on this record where you just go "Goddamn, how is this so beautiful?". The beauty and triumphant nature of it is completely over-bearing.. but they make it work to their advantage. The theme of the album revolves around death and passing into the afterlife. The sounds throughout perfectly encompass this feeling. Remarkable stuff, truly.

4.5 superb | Comatorium. | October 13th 15 | This is an incredible album. So Hideous takes the semi-standard blackgaze fare of their back catalogue and supplement it massively with the 30-piece First Light Orchestra. The orchestra was introduced on their last album but the potential not fully realized until this beauty of an release, one long running song broken up into seven tracks. The metal sections are fewer and further between on this single movement of music than usual for So Hideous, making way for spacious post rock and classical expanses that ebb, flow, climax, and crescendo with grace. The lower frequency of heavy climaxes coupled with their sheer crushing heaviness makes them all the more effective, and the post rock sections breathe new life into a genre that has been all but forgotten. A serious AOTY contender.

4.5 superb | metalgaze | December 21st 15 | This is massive, emotional, atmospheric and thankfully eschews all of the boring waiting around in most post rock/post metal. As a drummer, the use of timpani over the tracks is music to my ears. 9/10

4.5 superb | BtwntheAKIRAndMe | October 10th 15 | Mid 9 out of 10: This LP is fucking enormous. Every second of it is just absolutely pounding with some of the most triumphant and tragic sounds I have heard on a metal LP ever. The more background approach to the vocals only make this seem stronger. So Hideous have really outdid themselves this time and made one of the most crushing metal LPs of the decade.

2.5 average | zaruyache | December 19th 15 | It feels like it's just the same crescendo built to over and over again, to the point where that crescendo doesn't even feel like a "real" crescendo and each peak feels like a tease rather than a proper climax. It's pretty "cinematic" post-rock with growled vocals, but it doesn't really do much outside of be pretty and grandiose.
