I can see how this album has become influential, but I think it pales in comparison to other classic punk albums by bands like The Clash or The Modern Lovers. A couple catchy songs, but other than that there's not really that much there in the way of lyrical depth or variety.

the innovators of everything that is heard on this record. Joey's soothing voice flows through the middle of Johnny's and Dee Dee's sound monsoon in every song, with Tommy topping up the texture with his simle 4/4's and crashes. This album was the first ever real punk sound, and has stood the test of time. Most of the three-chord punk classics you've heard in your lifetime lie within this record.

HOW TO MAKE A POP FROM PUNK?
I just can not take this, stupid lyrics, madonna is much better, and i�m listening to hc/punk scene all my life.
This has only historical value, but it is a pure shit for me.
Ramones, 2/10 best album.
good for kids anyway.

The influence of The Ramones is undeniable. I don?t know of any American punk album that came out before this, at least nothing worth mentioning. The problem is, this album just isn?t very good. The Ramones would go on to release better products, and the punk community in general would add much more to the formula the Ramones put down. The tracks themselves are very basic pop-punk jams, with little variety. It works well as an overall product, and has a fun, cohesive flow to it, but there is too much repetition for my taste. Song titles repeated over and over, same 3 chords all song, very simple drummer and barely audible bass and kick drums (although there is some nice stomp on a few tracks). Blitzkrieg Bop, Judy is a Punk and 53rd & 3rd are classic, but lack replay value. Best songs are the 2 that actually have some musical variety: Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue and Havana Affair.

i'll never come close to revering this the way many do but it's odder to me when people dogpile on
it like it's total garbage. especially ones who are "into punk"
it's hurt partially by the ramones ubiquity and repetitiveness and prior exposure to other bands
that makes them look tame by comparison, but there's still some real grit under the cartoony
surface. it's unashamed in its simplicity and lyrical preoccupation on being young goons on the
fringes of urban life. not hard to see why they inspired so many to give it a go themselves.

This album conveys such an intense punk attitude and is most definitely reminiscent of stellar photo-punk bands, such as the Stooges, the Velvets, the New York Dolls, and the Sonics. This album is so enjoyable to listen to; one of the Ramones' best albums, if not their best. "Blitzkrieg Bop" is such an intense and hypnotic album opener. Stellar. "Beat on the Brat" is dark and lovely. "Judy is a Punk" is so hardcore and intense; its chaos makes it beautiful. "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" is possibly my favorite Ramones' song; it's loud yet demands a quiet reverence. "Chain Saw" is a fun and campy song, quite similar to the New York Dolls' "There's Gonna Be a Showdown" from their sophomore album, "Too Much Too Soon". "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue" is a dud and is therefore forgettable. "I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement" is an excellent, if campy, song. "Loudmouth" is not necessarily forgettable, but also not a standout. "Havana Affair" is such an amazing song; incredible. "Listen to My Heart" is such an intense, heart-wrenching song; a strange prototype to their punk ballads to come. "53rd & 3rd" is such a beautiful and dreary song; I love it. "Let's Dance" is such a moving and meticulous cover. "I Don't Wanna Walk Around With You" is ultimately forgettable; unfortunate. "Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World" is an exemplary album closer, one of the Ramones' best. What a fun fucking album. Don't take the Ramones too seriously; simply enjoy. A-r- Zach

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. On their debut self-titled the Ramones stick to their guns and deliver an album about as natural as it comes. Straightforward power chords and bass lines that are amazingly effective. Ramones might not force deep thinking and critical judgement of humanity as a whole but it does deliver a pure rock sound that very few others have managed to capture. Beauty in simplicity with fourteen tracks all worthy of being played time and time again. For me it only seems to get better with age.
