0.0 | iloveyouall | June 26th 16 | Probably the worst and most disrespectful album cover I have ever had the displeasure to look at. I don't care how decent an MC he may be. The fact that he has the audacity to come out and claim to be better than Biggie and Pac is beyond what the word "disgusting" can ever convey. Pac is dying to come out of hiding and record/release Hit Em Up part 2. And you thought I was kidding about that stupid claim he made? https://imgur.com/a/vLL2W. Btw, this guy sucks. He emulates what the two did (e.g. create a song about phone sex like Pac did although Pac actually DID have phone sex in the song, rap about actually being in jail which is technically something every rapper has done, etc the list goes on) but he brings fucking ZERO originality or insight to what he's doing (hell he doesn't even have the rhyme skills of either of the two). He's riding off of shock and hype and the come down will leave him with a scathing hangover in the near future when he's rapping about the same shit he's rapping about on this mixtape and everyone figures he's a fraud

2.5 average | TheManMachine | October 9th 16 | A languorous letdown -- maybe I was just anticipating a moment that lived up to his cake-taking guest-work on French Montana's "Lockjaw", or the fact that it's now realized that yes, he legit sounds barely conscious on the regz, and no, its allure ain't lasting. More of the latter I'd say, as his soporific+sloppy slurring almost always exasperates and the words don't really help much neither, attributes amplified by lotsa double-tracked flows (like, why?). But the beats generally catch the ear, he plays the dazed-n-down-n-out role decisively, second-to-last "Letter" is an innovative perk-up about a penning to a prisoner that's heartwarming, sincere, and far too short. Other worth-its are the guest assists/takeovers: Boosie showing a leanin' youngin how it's done and PNB Rock with a ginormous miracle hook; even if said hook seems suspiciously celebratory for the lamentation of mates stuck in slammers and cemeteries.

3.5 great | Alabaster Jones | June 24th 16 | It's becoming an increasingly rare story to hear about an artist making his way in the world through little other than word of mouth, but that's exactly how Dieuson Octave, better known as Kodak Black, has made it as far as he's gone. Though sometimes criticized for sounding too much like his idols, namely Gucci Mane and Boosie, the buck stops here. On Lil Big Pac, Kodak sounds like himself, moreso than on any other mixtape of his. To prove this, he even has both Gucci and Boosie feature on a couple of tracks, tracks on which the difference between them is apparent now more than ever. Elsewhere, it's very solid and occasionally excellent trap with a slight conscious edge, and with a great production team backing it all up. Simply put, I hope ol boy doesn't spend too much time in prison; he's too good of a talent and a story to waste.
