COCAINEEEEE CRINGE-FESTTTTTrAfter IG I was genuinely worried that Tilian-era wouldn't be able to top what's been their best album since Happiness, but it seems my fears have been allayed, because Mothership is easily not just one of their best of this iteration, but the one of the best in the band's discography. They've become more concise without sacrificing the technical chaos we've come to expect from them. Tilian is still probably their most polarizing vocalist, but he's never shined brighter than he does here. He can be soulful like Jonny, funky like Kurt, and poppy like nobody else has been before. Fucking great.

Probably Tilian's best album, though that's not saying much. I hear a mixture of DBMII, Happiness and Instant Gratification, the first two being among my favourite DGD albums, but that doesn't necessarily mean that all is well here. A lot of songs lack cohesion and feel like riffs held together by duct tape, so many parts just don't flow or transition well, or end abruptly. The lyrics, however, are easily the worst part of this album. Tilian may be doing great performance wise, his lyrics here are some of his absolute worst. There are plenty of good moments to be found, but they are mostly overshadowed by the chaos and cringeworthy lyrics. The best tracks here are the singles plus Frozen One and Petting Zoo Justice.

sadly but certainly my least favourite DGD LP so far. it's not bad by any means, but they rsimply wanted too much at once with this one. completely random, loony tracks that don't rfit like young robot, flossie dickey bounce(!) or petting zoo justice; mellow tilian rsoloartist-songs like here comes the winner(!) or exposed; balladesque songs like man of rthe year; or stadium-singalong-baits like frozen one/chocolate jackalope. god damn. if it rweren't for good old DGD epicness like in chucky..., deception, philosopher king or rinspire the liars, I would think this is just a hasty output, rushed by studio bosses in rthe background. - next time more time will! make us wait and make it worth the wait.

i don't get the 3.9 this album currently has, because to me, this is easily one of the top 10 worst albums of the year. the prod is too clean, the vocals are excrutiating, the lyrics are awful, the intrumentals are all over the place. this album thinks it's going for this mindblowing sound, when in fact it's nothing more than a pretentious pile of shit. 1-

This should be considered a classic in the post hardcore area. No other band sounds like this, no other band is willing to even attempt mixing the things that these guys do, and even if they did, i douby very much that anyone would come close to the success of DGD. Its better than the two albums that came before, and the two that came after. Top to bottom it's just mind blowing.

if it were an instrumental record, it would be an easy 4.5 maybe even a classic, but i feel like the lyrics need a lot of work, especially on songs like "Flossie Dickey Bounce". otherwise, this album is a huge step up, the guitar work is phenomenal, and Tillian's vocals soar to the skies on some of these songs (see "Chucky vs the Giant Tortoise"). also, the mix seems kinda off, and i can barely hear the bass, the screamed vocals and the drums kinda sound like they're a bit underwater as well.
