5.0 classic | Comatorium. | October 12th 16 | Holy fucking hell... never ones to be content with doing anything but pushing their sound to illogical extremes on each and every album, Dillinger are going out with a massive bang here. The sound is an amalgamation of their career as a band and each album shows it's influence. Their trademark technicely freakouts are laced with jazzy breaks of dissonant guitar and a heaping of tracks reach a new level of scope with the addition of strings and brass orchestra backing. This album is weird, this album is over the top, this album is absolute insanity, but most importantly this album is unabashedly and unequivocally The Dillinger Escape Plan in peak form, leaving us with a seething love letter of an album as their farewell.

2.0 poor | MegaResurrectedJake4 | October 20th 16 | So here's that other viewpoint in contrast to all these 5's, and why: This band reminds me of all of those insecure boys and
girls out there that try to be different, aggressive, and rebellious for the sake of their own self-image while believing in
practically nothing that would warrant such a temperament. Dissociation is the product of thinking Infinity should be
'calculated.' A lesson in self-righteous excess, and the idolization of knowledge as separate from wisdom. The result is a
technical piece of art demonstrating powerful narcissism that is unsurprisingly equally as popular as the rest of their
discography. Its got "everything" a kid trying to appear deep and struggling could ask for. But at the end of the day, if you
listen past all the different skilled affectations Puciato does on this album, and you make it through all the masturbatory
noises coming from the guitars showcasing their technicality, you can hear him in the title track sound just like the whiny
scene metalcore vocalists especially around 2:25. There is no doubt this band has talent, and they even produce some
good melodies a few times in spurts of 10 seconds, but this band is what everyone who is a pussy thinks is intense. power
without virtue. I wouldn't be so hard on them of course if this album was a 3.4. But the fact that this is put on a pedestal is
a sorry state of affairs that I have no doubt has helped encourage countless youths to dig deeper into their own egos with
piteous self-loathing masquerading as remorse. Thus I write this in the hopes of discouraging that.

4.5 superb | Alabaster Jones | October 15th 16 | It had to happen at some point, but I just didn't think it'd happen this soon. No matter what happens to them from here on out, The Dillinger Escape Plan will be remembered as a group that pushed the envelope. Disassociation cements that statement firmly as the band leaves on a massive, triumphantly powerful note that is unequivocally the best thing in their discography since Ire Works. All of the things the band is known for are here: the jazzy, relentless guitar work, the dizzying drumming, the experimentation with electronics and slow-burners, the ferocious vocals, and the intense passion that blazes through entire records. Yet, there's something about this one, with its songwriting near the best of their careers and Greg Puciato's best vocal performances to date, that makes hearing Disassociation feel special. If I had to guess, I'd say it's because what we're hearing is the end of one of metal's most intense and ambitious bands going out on top, with all 2,000 volts of their electric chair execution surging through it unabated. It's kind of hard to describe really, but one thing is for sure: the boys will be missed.

4.4 superb | Erwann S. STAFF | January 8th 20 | The record every band wants to end their career with, because it perfectly sums up what the band is about while appending some new touches. Musically, this is still frenzied mathcore (pleonasm spotted) with some jazzy experimentations, but they also added new weapons to their arsenals (eg Fugue is the best IDM track we could have hoped from them, and Low Feels Blvd is so 70s jazz fusion I was surprised they never played a jazz section like this one. It's so Dillinger). On top of that, Puciato never sounded so fragile and, dare I say, vulnerable at times. Before that, he always sounded like a crazy motherfucker ready to jump at your throat, and when he didn't, he always added an ominous vibe to his voice. This slight but welcome addition perfectly matches the swansong this album represents. This record right here is their decade-best because it takes all the best elements of the previous two, and added some more fat. Farewell, Dillinger.

4.5 superb | Nicksput | November 17th 17 | Dillinger Escape Plan delivers a comprehensive wrap up of their career with Dissociation. They cover pretty much every style they have experimented with (sometimes within the same song), and while there aren't a whole lot of stand out tracks like on previous albums, this is still an extremely fun and virtuous record. The band even used some strings on the final track. There's not much to be said about this that can't be said about previous DEP albums, and that's a really good thing. A fare farewell for one of the greatest metal/punk bands ever. Best tracks are Honeysuckle, Limerent Death, Wanting not so much as to, Fugue, Surrogate and Manufacturing Discontent.

4.5 superb | nnpoc | April 12th 22 | The most experimental record TDEP has done, Dissociation presents a lot to the table, and most of it is fantastic. While Fugue is a good track, as I do like electronic music, it feels slightly out of place. Still, tracks like Low Feels Blvd and Honeysuckle are masterpieces. R.I.P. TDEP 1997-2017

5.0 classic | ryallen | February 12th 21 | Words can never do it with this band, man. There's never been anything like them, and I dont think there will be again for some time. And to go out like THIS??? completely unreal. I cant think of a more ambitious end to a career. But for this level of ambition to be matched by the level of execution?? unparalleled, I think. This is an exceptionally bleak album. But I think what makes it so incredible is how it can be cathartic again and again even to someone like me who generally steers away from bleak and depressive moods.

4.0 excellent | Michael Bracken | January 29th 20 | What a stellar way to cap things off, and I don't even have the sentimental attachment that longtime Dillinger fans might. Very all-encompassing, touching on just about every genre they ever dabbled in, and there are still some curveballs thrown in. To sweeten the pot, the closing track is among their best ever. This is how you go out swinging.

4.0 excellent | BRAman22 | February 28th 17 | Most of the songs have a very One of US is the Killer vibe to them. It's not necessarily a bad thing, however, I think TDEP will always be at their best when they are playing their oldschool schizophrenic, technical style.

3.0 good | cjbizzlebizzle | December 29th 16 | Maybe it is a personal issue but these types of albums, the summation of a band's career, always feel so forgetful. Calculating Infinity and to a slightly lesser degree Miss Machine are bonafide important albums which will forever cement Dillinger as having a deserved place to be remembered in music history. Not only were those albums fresh and unique, they had excellent pace, songwriting and experimental sounds. Considering how different they are from each other, it is amazing they came out back to back, albeit 5 years apart with different lineups. Recalling those records highlights the issue with Dissociation. The entire album feels like it was borrowed from the past. Sure, the songs are actually quite good and well written but it is hard to not hear Miss Machine and Calculating Infinity in almost every single moment of this album. One cannot expect a band to do something fresh on every single release but the overall package here is not good enough, dragging on a bit, to warrant excellency.

4.0 excellent | brandiblitz142 | December 25th 16 | Took me several listens, but once I got into it was so GREAT. rLove the pure anger emotion in Limerent Death! The Depressing nature of Symptom of Terminal Illness and Wanting not much as to. I also loved the instrumentation all through and pure Dillinger RAWNESS. Not overrated as I thought. (See: Limerent Death, Symptom of Terminal Illness, Nothing to Forget, Low Feels Blvd, Manufacturing Discontent)

3.0 good | EasterInTheBatcave | December 21st 16 | Dillinger bows out with their most eclectic record yet. Aside from their traditional spastic mathcore ("Low Feels Blvd"), we get spoken word sections ("Wanting Not So Much to As To"), electronic ("Fugue"), orchestral stuff ("Nothing to Forget"), and more. A wholly entertaining, intense listen. Also, Greg's best vocal performance ever ("Limerent Death" is remarkable).

4.5 superb | Finn Baker | December 18th 16 | One thing Disassociation does particularly well is stick with the listener. Typical metal songs tend to blend together into a mush, which is why I don't really listen to metal anymore. This album, though, has songs like Limerent Death and Honeysuckle with are catchy as hell. TDEP even put songs like Fugue on here, which branch off entirely from the metalworks on the majority of the tracks here. It's a great album. Only downside for me is that metal is just not my cup of tea anymore.

4.5 superb | elliootsmeuth | October 15th 16 | This very well could be the best Dillinger album ever. They really do go out with a bang. Incorporating every positive attribute from albums prior and mashing it into one record, along with adding some new elements (Fugue), Dillinger craft an album that is sure to go down in the record books as one of the best metalcore albums of all time and one of the greatest swan songs of the this decade.
