their roughest but also most creative effort, they sound like an actual band here if only bowes voice wasnt just basically a guy talking. good moments on every track with wenches n mead the most coherent

This is Alestorm's worst album. The production just isn't there, and you can tell they hadn't solidified their niche yet. Also has some production and riff choices that make it clear this comes from the 'easycore' era. A couple songs that are worthwhile. Nancy the tavern wench gets the job done as a chanter. Overall not a great album end-to-end though.

A bit patchy and too generic at some moments in terms of composition. But it is a very strong and bold debut album, especially when you look at the lyrics/storytelling. Plus, it contains some classics of the band. Best songs: Captain Morgan's Revenge, Nancy the Tavern Wench, Of Treasure.

Alestorm's debut gets off to a fair enough start, but not even 15 minutes in things become so contrived and obvious that it's tough to go back and look at even the better moments with a fond light. Little more than a one-trick pony that can't carry itself out for an EP's worth, let alone a full-length album, Captain Morgan's Revenge only leaves us asking "why couldn't this actually be enthralling or (repeatedly) enjoyable?"
