3.0 good | Brandon Scott EMERITUS | March 10th 17 | Even though the heaviness is a contrived effort after the mainstream inclinations of their last album, the new Darkest Hour is okay, even if it does sound like everything else Kurt Ballou produces. The melodic death metal influence is sorely missing though.

4.5 superb | NYdubber | February 24th 17 | Travis Orbin -- the missing link for this band. He has taken a pretty decent band to a whole new level on their last two albums.

3.5 great | JesusCage | July 3rd 17 | 'Knife in the Safe Room' it's a kick in the front door that sets the mood for the album, what a
energetic banger. The riffs are on point on this one. A little more melodic parts like on Deliver
Us(but that is a matter of taste really) and it could be a step higher. Great great album tho.

4.0 excellent | Jared Floryan | March 10th 17 | Front to back, Washington, D.C.-based extreme metal outfit Darkest Hour's most recent record is a fucking savage creature. Entitled Godless Prophets and The Migrant Flora, the band's ninth studio album is comprised of 12 tracks which hearken back to DH's roots, but not to a point where the group comes off as dwelling too much on their past. Vocally John Henry is at his fiercest in quite some time, but the musicianship is also equal parts energetic, crushing, and precise; perhaps too precise, yet still. While the offering does sound a bit samey on occasion - with Kurt Ballou's production style pretty much zeroing in on the infrequent monotony - Godless Prophets and The Migrant Flora manages to be otherwise likable as well as a significant upgrade compared to its predecessor. Also, boy are there riffs aplenty on this thing. Angel recommends: "This Is the Truth," "The Flesh & the Flowers of Death," "Another Headless Ruler of the Used," "The Last of the Monuments," and "Beneath It Sleeps".

3.0 good | AmbushReality | February 27th 17 | I actually like the self titled record, it was still heavy despite the inclusion of clean vocals. And hell, the cleans were done extremely well; there was some really catchy shit on there and John sounded surprisingly really solid on all the singing bits. This new record is back to the band's beginnings, heavy, fast, and not a shred of clean sung vocals. It begs an interesting question in terms of the band's self titled, their only release on Sumerian Records: did the label steer them in the more commercial friendly direction? Regardless, this is yet another hit by Darkest Hour. This record bangs from start to finish, and Kurt Ballou's production is a perfect fit. Despite the last album being self-titled, *Godless Prophets* is not a continuation of that sound.

4.5 superb | MalConstant | February 20th 17 | This is it. This is the album I've been waiting for from Darkest Hour since 'Deliver Us' came out 10 years ago. Every song rips, and the album is wonderfully paced. Kurt Ballou is a damn magician!
