Early AOTY candidate, it's growing on me song per song. Their style is kind of hard to pinpoint, it's got cues from Blackgaze, Neo-crust, Hardcore, Post-Punk, Sludge, Post-Rock, it sounds like i'm describing Celeste, Thantifaxath, but they're not really similar at all. I'd say it's primarily a Post-Hardcore album in the more tradition sense of the term, as such it's concise and riffy, but it stills share Deafheaven's and Liturgy's harmonic sensibilites and epic buildups, i love that. Just listen to All Along, hear how it suddenly breaks open halfway through, that should convince anyone.

A "burst", indeed. Brutus have created quite the momentum for themselves with his inexplicably bombastic debut, quite unmatched in reach and presentation by many of their contemporaries. What seems like a mere - there is no better word for it - burst of energy and intuitional talent, is actually a carefully crafted, mathematically calculated metallic and -core formula the band would only expand upon as they went on.

A great blend of genres tightly executed. This is their prep for the next one, but this is still some extremely solid stuff, like a better Marmozets (who remembers Marmozets?).

Everyone is hyped over the new album but hey this jams. Somehow it sounds like it was recorded live, the production and vocals are a touch amateur. But when in general this can be a bad thing, here it gives the album a unique vibe. It feels like your teenage girlfriend's rock band except a lot better, and with tonnes of post-hardcore/even post-rock influences. There is a certain tenderness felt towards the music because of that. Idk it's weird. Also yeepee they're Belgian! 4.1

Does this vocalist even have 0.5 octaves in her range or is she gonna sing the same 3 notes the whole album? r[edit] Now halfway through the album and the range displayed is almost an octave. I guess that's better.
