2.5 average | INTERNATIONAL POPSTAR STEVEN WILSON | August 2nd 17 | "I say dear boy, what tomfoolery has gone on here with the tunes? I shall have to convene with my fox-hunting brethren to discuss how great it is to be old as fuck and angry at eveything over a good raisin scone and some earl grey" - Zakalwe

5.0 classic | zxlkho | August 2nd 17 | finally and in conclusion; the luciferian towers L.P. was informed by the following grand
demands:
+ an end to foreign invasions
+ an end to borders
+ the total dismantling of the prison-industrial complex
+ healthcare, housing, food and water acknowledged as an inalienable human right
+ the expert fuckers who broke this world never get to speak again

3.5 great | Joellipopelli | April 13th 21 | I had this rated as a 3.0 since it released, but having listened to it again for the first time in
years I think I came to a different conclusion: This album is great, actually.

4.0 excellent | zaruyache | September 21st 17 | More solid post-rock interspersed with that noisey drone chamber classical ambient that I love. Godspeed have opened up their style a little bit on Luciferian Towers, opting for some actual instrumental harmonies and arguably more coherent drone sections. It's a little bit different, but nothing really unexpected.

0.0 | Gyromania | September 14th 17 | I'm aware that I'm well known as the resident contrarian shit-talker on Sputnik these days (you can catch me in threads of your favourite albums de-hyping them to hell and back), and that probably tarnishes my credibility, but I genuinely do love this band. I got into post-rock through Godspeed, back when I'd nearly given up on the genre. So it pains me that I find comeback-era Godspeed to be a hollow shell of their former selves. Their last two albums reeked of 'been-there-done-that-but-done-it-better,' and sadly, the same applies to Luciferian Towers. There are some cool ideas present here, but they've been playing it too safe for years now. It's hard to feel the same enthusiasm and excitement anymore.

3.5 great | Bedex | January 23rd 24 | Idk what on earth is happening in the soundoff section here. Anyways, is this the best GY!BE record out there? Definitely not. But it remains well crafted. The transitions (aside from within the two triptychs) are really poor with frank blanks in places, making this feel like a compilation of B-side pieces rather than a true album, although all the pieces have a coherent aesthetic. 1 is the most interesting with its slight traces of brass and jazziness. The others are to me variations of the sound on Yanqui UXO, with good quality and cool instrumentation, but with build ups that never lead to the heights GY!BE has used us to. It's fine, and from another band it would surely score higher, but it's hard not to feel disappointed. The last triptych was losing me a bit until the violin comes in on 06:30 and makes the conclusion all aerial and beautiful. That's probably the only GY!BE-worthy moment there along with 1, but man would be nice to hear on a road trip. 3.7

4.0 excellent | Gene Gol-Jonsson CONTRIBUTOR | July 6th 23 | Godspeed's maligned excursion into orchestral drone sees the band pulling many punches for the sake of a slow-burning shortie escapade with a direct, unabashed political messaging layered unsaid underneath all the wispy cacophony of the music.

3.0 good | gsboomie | August 15th 19 | I'm a new fan of Godspeed, and I absolutely adore work of their's such as, Slow Riot for New Kanada, Lift Your Skinny Fists, and F#, but this just feels kind of uninspired. I'm not sure how else to put it, but the rest of the group's work fills me with emotion throughout sprawling and constantly changing songs. This isn't bad, if anything its still a good album, but not much more. Hoping this grows on me as I listen more.

3.5 great | Alabaster Jones | September 28th 17 | At one point in time, Godspeed was my favorite band of all time. Everything they'd released from 1995-2002 was nothing short of post-rock perfection, even if Yanqui U.X.O. was just a shade below the others. As it stands, I'm lukewarm on their two records released before this one, as it seems they'd just simply lost the songwriting magic they posed before. "Luciferian Towers" isn't nearly as good as their pre-hiatus records, but it is their best post-hiatus record, if only because it is the work of a band who understands they'll never be on the level they once were, but still stick to their guns and write the music they want. Like all Godspeed records, it's a grower, containing subtleties not noticeable much on merely one listen, and like all Godspeed records, the true essence of the record isn't it's build-ups or it's crescendos; it's in the atmosphere. This record sounds like awakening on a somewhat sunny morning and accepting that though things may not be how you want, you're still going to power through it. Perhaps it's a cliche, but it's an extremely well done cliche. And if that's all they can do now, so be it.

3.0 good | Travelhead | September 15th 17 | When I heard the album concept and the title, I expected gybe to destroy all luciferian towers and protest the news with their music filled with full of rage and noise. But this record is too mellow for this kind of concept. That's why I rate it as 3.

0.0 | Pekke | August 10th 17 | as in anything that has happened past two years has changed the perspective of this band to any political elements, demands be but means won't, as usual, this time they need to write down their vision because hype blinds every corner. Zakalwe calls them useful idiots but it's merely one of the original movements that cot swarmed with sparkle zombies echoing each other, I still understand tve band's perspective as one that discontinues all wrongs to make right, noble but impossible. You can only HOPE. Will fucking buy.
