I enjoy how these tracks complement each other the most. While 'I Can Tell You About Pain' can be seen as the quick, palate cleansing Converge bashing; it leads the listener perfectly into the subdued, sludgy surprise that is 'Eve'. Album hype engaged.

Decent 4
Even though this is pretty solid 4.5 material, it's just 10 minutes and 2 songs, so giving it a 4.5 didn't feel right.
I can tell you about pain is pretty standard Converge track, even tho Bannon and the production and lyricism are
really pushing it above just ''standard''. Eve is masterpiece, lyrically strong, instrumentally magnificent, blistering
guitars, layers of beauty, linear and natural structure and MAGNIFICENT performance from Bannon

10th February, 2022: Converge - I Can Tell You About Pain (mathcore/post-metal, 2017)
So, as someone who kind of hates anything and everything related to metalcore, Converge are
one of those bands I’ve never been into. Fortunately, “Eve”, which makes up more than half of
this EP, isn’t metalcore at all! Brilliant.
So here, I can clearly see where Converge get their followers from. Even the opening track
with its relatively brief runtime gets a pass from me. The use of dynamics and textures are
unrivalled in this area of music, in particularly the expressive drumming and layered
guitars. I’d love to hear what they sound like for an entire record devoid of metalcore (I’m
yet to hear the one with Chelsea Wolfe, so hold that thought), and I can probably say that
“Eve” is one of the best metal-meets-shoegaze songs that I’ve come across.

It's weird to me that I'm just now hearing new music by Converge. I've been a fan since 2013, but it feels like I've been listening to them my entire life, and it didn't really dawn on my I'd yet to hear new Converge until after I Can Tell You About Pain was released. For what it's worth, this stuff is Converge in that most classic of ways; fast, unrelenting, and adrenaline-pumping when playing hardcore like the title-track, and crushingly heavy when playing sludge metal with noise rock tendencies like "Eve". Finally, the anticipation for a new Converge full-length is finally peaking, and I'm going to enjoy experiencing the build-up to that as well. Long live the Salem road dogs.

This is why I love Converge, two decades into their career and they're still putting out some of their best material ever. I Can Tell You About Pain is one of the most pummeling and disorienting Converge tracks I've heard, and Eve is just incredible, beautiful and melodic while still maintaining that classic Converge style.
