Swell doesn't really bring anything new to the table that wasn't already done brilliantly on Celebrate, but it's still an album full of bangers and just a fun, shreddy time. Celebrate is an absolute monster to follow up, but they did an admirable job. 3.8/5

Guitar playing was excellent, but the vocals are of something you've heard a million times before which completely ruins any chance of being good. Lyrics are kinda lame too. Sounds like grown men singing lyrics written by a teenage girl.

Somehow this album is ridiculously too "catchy" and "youngy" (just try listen to Track 2), it's
like they're trying to get into different music segmentation. I prefer the 'raw singing/music'
back in 2013.

With their fifth studio album, the Minnesota trio of Tiny Moving Parts attempt to release an album that can match their 2016 album, Celebrate. While they succeed in some areas, they ultimately fail to recapture the lightning in a bottle that was their 2016 magnum opus. Not to say that Swell is a bad album, far from it. If anything, vocalist Dylan Mattheisen has improved and comes with his best vocal performance to date. The music, brought to you by Will and Matt Chavalier, continues to impress with infectious guitar lines and fast pop-punk drumming. The lyrics have even improved in the regard that the band has almost entirely done away with the cringe inducing lines that showed up sporadically on Celebrate. The one area where the album does fail a slight bit is that the first half of the album feels a bit samey. All the songs are good, but it feels like the band retreating the same ground of their earlier works. The second half, which is inconsistent in it's own ways, at least varies the structure and musical ideas. Ultimately, Tiny Moving Parts have released a great, if not slightly disappointing album. This album won't top Celebrate, but it is a worthy and enjoyable addition to their discography.
