4.5 superb | Lucman | March 5th 18 | On Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It, Rolo Tomassi have fine-tuned their sound to perfection. And perfect it is as the result of their hard work over the course of five records is one of the most exhilarating, unpredictable, and utterly beautiful metal albums I have heard in years, quite possibly this decade.

0.0 | calmrose | February 27th 18 | Essentially Grievances on steroids. Album builds brilliantly on what the band was doing on
that album with the more melodic moments weaved within the technical, heavy moments, and
ups the ante to create new heights for the band.

4.5 superb | Risodo | March 5th 18 | When i listened to Tomassi's "Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It", i was absolutely sure that i would come across with something from Post-Rock or from the depths of Experimental Rock. I was surprised to know what Spazzcore is and how diverse all its aspects and pillars support music that goes up to eight minutes in length. The hype on top of this album is really accurate and fair. An evident favorite in the dispute for the best record of 2018.

4.5 superb | cjbizzlebizzle | November 6th 18 | Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It is one of those albums that seemingly came out of nowhere without very much expectation and floors you from beginning to end. Rolo Tomassi do brilliantly to open the album with Towards Dawn leading into Aftermath teasing the listener with a clean heavily synth driven track before erupting violently into their crushingly heavy sound that draws influence from mathcore and post-rock with sprinkles of blackgaze throughout. Throughout the runtime Rolo Tomassi treat the listener to an emotional rollercoaster between ethereal clean sections and dark, angry scream-driven passages. This contrast and blending of moods is one of the best things about this record. At first impression this sounds as if acts like Dillinger, Oathbreaker and BTBAM had some sort of demon child but in the end Rolo Tomassi do enough to carve out their own niche thanks to the vocal variations, heavy but extremely well blended use of synth and approachable songwriting. At no point does it sound like Rolo Tomassi are trying to be overly technical or prog but the music contains many layers and complexities for those looking to dig deeper. Beyond that a nod must be given to the producers who really hit the nail on the head allowing each element of the music to really shine clearly through the speakers. The album as a whole is a contender for best of 2018 and A Flood of Light seriously may be the best heavy song of 2018. Please headline tour the US.

4.5 superb | Doctuses | March 23rd 18 | I have this at a 4.3 that is inching ever closer to a 5. This is an emotionally potent album that,
although jaggedly, mixes various different genres to create an organic whole. In my personal
opinion, however, I don't think mathcore becomes this band. They are deeper people than that
genre can offer. It seems to me that they could craft an even more focused album if they utilized
more black and/or atmospheric metal, sort of in the vein of Sunbather. To me, the mathcore stuff
interrupts the potency of the grand soundscapes that could be Rolo Tomassi. Nevertheless, Time
Will Die And Love Will Bury It is great in its own right.

4.5 superb | meenwolf131 | March 20th 18 | experimental on formlessness of heaviness and soundscape / merge rmathcore, post-hardcore, indie pop, and electronic together and expose rit as a perfect energetic intense of dark atmosphere

3.0 good | BlazinBlitzer | March 5th 18 | Maybe it's just me, but one of the album's biggest feats is being disjointed and formulaic at the same time and that's not said in a positive connotation. However, it's far from terrible and there are extremely shiny bright spots here and there. BADNEW probably needs to groove to some sleep music or something idk, who cares.

4.0 excellent | ExoskeletalJunction | April 25th 22 | Listening diary 23rd April, 2022: Rolo Tomassi - Time Will Die & Love Will Bury It (post-
hardcore, 2018)
It's been a real pleasure to follow Rolo Tomassi over the years. It's been a decade since I
first heard Astraea, right in the middle of the period where I was convinced that mathcore
was a worthless genre, and since then they've done nothing but grow in creative ways. You
could hear it back then, what was coming - how else were they album to sell mathcore to
someone who can't stand the style? And so it's no surprise that they move into softer
pastures with an incredibly refined compositional sense - this isn't your regular heavy-
band-goes-soft routine.
I can't say that I think this is a masterpiece, but it's certainly a very creative album and
fuses elements of genres that have never really been pushed together. Dream pop, black
metal, post-hardcore, progressive rock, ambient, it's all here. Eva Spence sounds as
confident making demonic hell sounds as she does under a post-rock delay guitar progression.
And the use of dynamics is excellent, a skill that is absolutely necessary if you're going
to try the heavy-meets-soft album. They still have some room to grow in terms of the musical
ideas, but I feel like this is a band with a very high ceiling, and we could see an era-
defining album from them still to come.

4.8 classic | Erwann S. STAFF | January 28th 20 | Some motherfuckers are dense, but no motherfucker is as dense as this record. A true Wall of Sound surrounds you for 50 minutes. The most important aspect of this is how balanced between good and evil it is: Eva Spence fluctuates between the purest lullabies (Risen) and the evilest shrieks (she sounds so devilish on A Flood of Light), the four musicians are capable of pulling both some of the most neck-breaking moments of recent post-hardcore memory as well as some chilling ambient sections. In the same vein, the cover art is particularly fitting. It reflects what's happening musically: the background image is beautiful and serene but is blurred and distorted by the lines on top. This whole duality is even more absorbing, thanks to the oh-so-remarkable dynamics and how the tracks flow into each other. An album so unique it won't create any wave of bland followers but will remain as one of the heavy scenes' most important for how utterly beautiful it is. If Amenra is the catharsis, Kvelertak the fun, Deafheaven the hip, or Cult of Luna the most massive, Rolo Tomassi will be remembered as the most beautiful.

2.5 average | kheman1317 | January 6th 19 | I didn't love this album and neither did I hate it. Virtuosity and varying time signatures doesn't always mean good music. Sure the band members are talented and can perform their instruments with great skill but they still lag far behind in the ability to deliver music that moves the soul.

4.5 superb | Chino smoking it up! | November 19th 18 | this album is really good...gonna bump it again...some times the hype and little girl's vocal annoys me...but then I give the album space to breathe and I come back to it and feel like 4.5 to 5 it. This quality really sticks...how gentle and soft it starts, then it gets really darker and heavier...then the jazz and piano features just give them that uniqueness and identity. Adding to that is the way everything flows because everything is brilliantly connected.

4.0 excellent | Jared Wegenast | November 4th 18 | Wow, I might need to give this one at least 2-4 more listens to do it justice. I'm feeling this is in the high 3s to mid 4 range, with the potential of being a 5. Only time will tell. Every track is unique and diverse.

4.0 excellent | TheManMachine | May 2nd 18 | Their fierceness and delicacy both sport a sheen so clean and an aura that could soundtrack compilations of anime scenes -- and for the level of beaut they produce it's a satisfying shock when they go all opposite on ya and turn savage; only to meld it all magnificently to boot. It can come across long-winded and fickle but what an exceptional-n-powerful weep+roar patchwork: dreamy drones, post-y segues, bearable prog, menacing metalcore alongside epic emotional swells, Eva Spence vocally back-n-forth killin' it as subdued seraph and bestial shrieker. The thoroughly dramatic flow's decisive moments include the twinkling affability of "Aftermath" morphing into its game-changer aftermath and the stunning 8-minute blast of bliss that is "A Flood of Light"; which immerses you in exactly that.
