Like wow, I thought this would be a fine album just b/c it was a rerecording but holy fuck aotgdy (so far, Feb 17, which I recognize is barely into the year but come tf on, get through half of this album and tell me that you're not losing you're gd mind).

As someone who basically grew up finding music on the internet, and also someone who was a college radio DJ in Maryland where a lot of people knew will and like, bragged about seeing him at house shows with 2 people when they were 16 (wow, cool!)- it's a weird full circle seeing a rerecording of twin fantasy getting best new music on pitchfork and stuff. I've always hated this record and the cult around it. Oh well

Sonically, this is like The Strokes. Lyrically, this album is miles beyond what The Strokes ever were. A stellar, polished rework of what was an abrasively lo-fi album, best rock album of 2018 hands down.

Well, this is another release from CSH. I just find it kind of a step backward, considering Teens of Denial was such an ambitious project. Even with the ambitious song lengths and tempo changes, it just doesn't push the same buttons it once used to.

A solid attempt at recreating his previous version of this album. Toledo gives bursts of energy to his original lo-fi sound. I strongly prefer the album, Teens of Denial, but that does not mean this album shouldn't be respected in its own right. While the fun guitar, random lyrics, and complicated song structures still remain, I find this album lacking some of the emotion from that of Denial. Also the topics addressed here don't really grab me. While this seems more personal, it also feels more simple. This album will definitely be a stand out for years to come, and I respect the release, but it's just not my favorite from him and I'd rather listen to Teens of Denial.

I wrote this huge paragraph of a review and lost it because I had to relog or something, so I'll
summarize it real quick since I'm still kind of tight.
Twin Fantasy is an album that somehow is both professional sounding and awkward as all hell. Songs
like Beach Life-In-Death and Famous Prophets, while insanely long for a single song (3 parts in
Beach Life-In-Death's case) are carried by instrumentals that just straight up slap. The album's
lyrical content is awkward in a charming way, not in a way that makes me think that this was made
by someone who doesn't know how to write. There really aren't many shortcomings on this album, and
as of right now it's my AOTY, hands down.

Toledo revamping his 7-year old Bandcamp breakthrough may seem a bit superfluous, but it serves as a testament to relative newcomers like myself that he's long had an appetite for ambition. And whereas mainstream breakthrough 'Teens of Denial' took seventy minutes to get through twelve tunes, here it takes that to get through ten; with a less fluent flow to boot. Though his nervous+mopey mutterin' talk-sing tends to wear thin, Will is a stirring and sympathetic character who's also up for going hoarse and harmonizing; and spread through the many passages that are dynamic and immerse ya in greatness you're sure to find declines in direction and declared descents into cliche and dull+sulky diary-reads bout how he's not doing "shit" cuz he's not traveling the world like last year. Most convincing when resisting schizophrenia or in a room that's spinning.

Fuck, "Beach Life-In-Death" is practically an anthem, what a sinister and intense music... without words. Car Seat Headrest is a beautiful band, and "Twin Fantasy (Face to Face)" is a re-recording of the same disc that was released in 2011. I have not heard the original yet, but my experience was incredible the first time i listened to this. Need to check the rest of the discography later.
