3.0 good | Krpa | May 4th 18 | Not as bad as I thought it would be, judging from the singles. Red Clouds remains one of the most boring songs here, together with I Don't Mind which passes by without leaving any impression. At least half of the album belongs in the same arena as the latest BMTH, Asking Alexandria, Underoath etc., meaning these are easily digestible tracks complete with woah-oh background vocals. Some of these lighter songs are actually my favorites here (Why Am I Like This, Real Life, Run Away), but almost every other song lacks something to make it memorable. The guest features were totally unneeded IMO, especially on Human which is almost ruined by rapping. Overall, this is a fun album that is still too run-of-the-mill for such a talented band. Here's hoping it improves with repeated listens.

2.5 average | AlphaGoon | October 8th 18 | They've managed to somewhat craft a halfway unique sound, at least within the genre they're usually classified in. It's just not a very exciting or interesting one. The pretty corny lyrics don't help.

2.0 poor | c0nf1n3d | August 6th 18 | Nope. "Dark Matter" seemed to be a solid direction choice for The Word Alive, utilizing the band's complex songwriting capabilities to deliver a rock album that managed to be safe yet still very well-written. Here we have "Violent Noise", an album that isn't a failure, but is a disappointing follow-up to "Dark Matter". Every song on the album **almost** makes it to the 'good' level of listening, but that's the thing. ALMOST. Every track has potential to be more, yet the group goes the safe route with generic song structures, riffs, and melodies. If The Word Alive wanted to evolve from "Dark Matter", they would've taken the aspects on how the album mixed things up in terms of genre and expand on that. From a personal taste, I was just fine with "Dark Matter"...I actually loved it. But "Violent Noise" is just too stale to even be worth mentioning. Sure, songs like "Stare at the Sun"/"Run Away"/"Why Am I Like This?" are alright...but as mentioned, they never reach that "good" level. Is it too late to ask for another take at the "Deceiver" style?

2.5 average | GreyShadow | May 3rd 18 | Surprisingly not the worst thing I've ever heard. The album was decently catchy and there were some cool sounds here and there. Too bad none of this showcases that these guys are way more than capable musicians who can really create something bif if they feel like it. rIf Dark Matter was them taking a step into something a bit more comfortable than the mess that Real was, then this was them playing it far too safe and for being their 5th album, that's pretty sad.
