4.0 excellent | Winesburgohio STAFF | December 14th 18 | Ten years in and me and American football still bone like we're cheating on each other WITH each other. A decade-plus and their clit/brown/lilting guitar-area still pOwns my dick.r

0.0 | Slex | February 26th 19 | First 5 songs are absolutely stunning and the rpeak of AF's career, reading like a rhypnotically lush post-rock of LP1. The rlast 3 tracks unfortunately don't hold up as rmuch, but none are bad. Anyone who hated LP2 ris in for a hell of a treat with this one. rEdit: yeah never mind, last 3 tracks are rincredible too. The acoustic finger picking on rI Can't Feel You, THE BASS on Life Support. rThis is a masterpiece.

5.0 classic | Faraudo | March 2nd 19 | Heir Apparent and Doom in Full Gloom represent this band at it's finest, and the album as a whole
is beautiful and fulfilling. My personal AOTY so far.

4.0 excellent | Bedex | March 22nd 19 | This is a great album by American Football. Not diverging much from their previous two albums but I like the use of keys on this as well as some of the guest vocals. Very relaxing and soothing with beautiful melodies, but nothing quite as catchy and memorable as their first LP. Will still re-listen to this for sure, but the first thing I did after finishing it was jamming Never Meant. 4.1

4.5 superb | Halez | March 3rd 19 | As far as I'm concerned, this is the album to beat for my AOTY list this year. Dare I say it's even more of a masterpiece than their debut? Nah, that can't be, I must not have the proper nostalgic backing.rOh and to whoever said this is "jonas brothers on xanax" LMAO okay, this is definitely JoBros even though it's significantly stronger than every song I've ever heard from them... yeah...

0.0 | Observer EMERITUS | March 2nd 19 | Hypnotic and ethereal-- that's a good way to describe this. I can't help but think this is just another Owen album but with more twinkle, reverb, and delay pedals thrown in. Because you know, "oh, the muscle memory."

4.5 superb | Christopher Y. | March 25th 19 | American Football goes dream pop? Yep, you heard me, and it's better than you think. Silhouette is one hell of a lead single, the mesmerizing Uncomfortably Numb also lived up to standards, these two songs just shows that this is an improvement when compared to LP2. Other tracks are also really strong as well, from astonishing highlights that are Doom In Full Bloom and Heir Apparent, to the dreamy I Can't Feel You, which sounds like Rachel Goswell put the leftover words from her band's material to mix with the band's agonized words. Simply put, a beautiful album.

4.0 excellent | Erwann S. STAFF | March 22nd 19 | The post-rock ending of Doom in Full Bloom, Rachel Goswell & Hayley Williams, YASSSSS. Apart from that fanboyism, it sure is pretty (thx to the dream pop addition), but it's much less impactful than LP1, maybe because they traded the math for the post.

4.0 excellent | Leatherneck | March 22nd 19 | the songs contained in this lp are in a way monumental, unlike their previous efforts. american football has perfected the formula kinsella developed on his solo catalogue and now showcases tracks that go far beyond the *emo* tag. brilliant and somewhat unexpected from a band that had such a long hiatus and a somewhat uninspired comeback album a few years ago.huge props to everyone involved in the production.

4.0 excellent | PunkerBlast | March 22nd 23 | Heir Apparent it beautiful, I love the loud bass. Life Support rules, even some of the more dull songs eventually build into something great or don't detract much. It was cool to see Haley show up on here. I hope they both benefited from the collaboration.

Was beide Bands hier gleichermaßen geschafft
ihren Bann zieht.
Das ist natürlich auch der glasklaren Produktion
geschuldet, bei der alle Soundkomponenten perfekt
aufeinander abgestimmt wirken. Hier zeigt sich
ein Sinnbild für eine nun abgeklärtere
Gefühlswelt, die jedoch mit völlig neuen
Problemsituationen kollidiert. Das spiegelt sich
wiederum in der wehmütigen Textpassage „I used to
struggle in my youth, now I'm used to struggling
for two“ wider.

3.5 great | Doublez38 | December 11th 19 | American Football have managed to pay tribute to themselves with this new album, first by coming back from beyond the dead with a good serious album, but also because they have marked by their influence their current. They managed to make up for the previous effort and finally it is the fans who are the happiest now.

4.0 excellent | Rik VII (sound-off ratings out of 10) | August 15th 19 | Beautiful album, masterfully done. They weave catchy, concise and straight-up enchanting songs out of pretty insane rhythmic stuff (the 15/8 in Silhouettes, polymetres in I Can't Feel You, etc etc etc) - an impressive effort in terms of atmosphere and composition alike. - 8.5

3.0 good | tancrni | March 27th 19 | huh, I had better hopes on this one. The singles were great but the vocals are too similar to LP2, which I don't really like. The sound landscapes are more intense than on LP2, but it's still a long way to equal LP1. Not that it is not good that the band moves on, but lyrically and vocally it's still miles far back.rMaybe this grows on me later, but so far I just consider it a slight improvement on LP2.
