2.0 poor | Doublez38 | September 26th 19 | Apart from their first album, Keane, unlike Coldplay, if we talk about a mega band inspired by U2, is more of a single band than an album, and it's much better to make a compilation for you. Cause and Effect is no exception to the rule, it's very dusty. As a miserable cache, Keane uses electronic effects/passages that are meant to be "experimental" but which in reality are very banal to hide the fact that the pop songs that come after are often too generic. What is unfortunate is that the maturity of the subjects covered is not highlighted because of these musical deficiencies. r

2.5 average | Lucman | September 26th 19 | I don't hear a whole lot of vomit-inducing tunes here. It's vapid and pretty empty musically but it's a harmless return. Let em keep doing what they do.

2.5 average | CriticalMyth | September 20th 19 | My first impression upon a full listen was that this doesn't feel like an album that marks a triumphant return after a long hiatus. It feels like an album that they might have produced right before their hiatus, when creativity was running dry. All of the songs are perfectly serviceable Keane, but at the same time, none of the tracks stand out as either memorable or challenging when compared to the existing Keane catalogue. It feels like they played it incredibly safe, which is not what I was hoping for when they announced a new album.
