This is one of the albums that's songs come on in between bands that I really enjoy (Pinback, Circle takes the Square, La Dispute) and I don't skip to try and get to the next song.
The funky sounds mixed with the hip vocals really make them enjoyable, but I would be weary of saying that to put this album on repeat would QUICKLY cause it to lose appeal (Unlike Fall of Troy's Doppleganger and Circle Takes The Square's EP).
Just put your tunes on shuffle and wait for a CTE song to randomly come up, listen to it, and let your music player take you to another band.

If you like whatever comes on the radio that sounds vaguely like Arctic Monkeys or beck, then you'll love Cage the Elephant.
If you seethingly hate ironic southern rock, cliches, money humpers, predictability, do what I did with this album and grind it down into little pieces and feed it to your neighbors dog.

A pretty decent start for this group, and the album is enjoyable. Punk-rock-oriented blues w/ a clear vocal delivery alongside occasional dabbling in 90's distorted garage rock (nostalgia). The downside is that I feel this band was shooting for too many genres at once in this album. Personally, the majority of tracks on this album sound alike, if not too similar. If you're reading this and expecting a large amount of diversity on this album, this is not the album for you. Excluding the obnoxious "No Rest For the Wicked" track, this is an alright album.

I have disagree completely. I heard this album and fell in love with it. Their sophomore album is much better but I have to say that in a very short time, you will be eating your words for breakfast. Spin magazine pegged these guys as the next Nirvana or Pearl Jam.

What a great debut. This band is really unique although they will no doubt be hated soon because "Ain't No Rest For The Wicked" is played everywhere. (Side note) the concept of a song being overplayed and thus being labeled as "no longer good" does in no way diminish the greatness of the song only the willingness of the listeners to experiance it again.

Cage the Elephant want to be a wild, rebellious, garage rock band, too bad they just end up sounding like bored teenagers hoping to cash in on a "garage rock revival" that already came and went. Overall, they sound to me like Kings of Leon hacks (even their back story sounds suspiciously like a KoL). Supposedly, the best song on this album is "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked", a slide-guitar driven number that just ends up sounding like cut rate Beck. Though I do admit, the first two tracks are good.
