No other band is as good at creating atmosphere and such truly immersive landscapes in music as Imperial Triumphant right now. The obvious film influences aside, the group uses dissonant instrumentation, filthy vocals and primal rhythms to submerge the listener into another world. This world is as shiny and opulent as it is disgusting and dark, they transform excess into something sinister and foul. This message resonates in the world created by the music of Alphaville and in the world we live in today, perhaps the place visited in the music isn't so different from our society. As with Vile Luxury, this record rewards full attention and it is truly an immersive experience. The percussion work is once again other worldly and it is not a stretch to say Kenny Grohowski's work is some of the best and certainly most interesting in modern metal. The best group in avant-garde/experimental metal at the moment because they use their dissonance, dirtiness, freeflowing song structures and technical finesse to create absurdly indulgent atmospheres instead of just to make music that sounds impressive.

Atonal and dissonant shit = hey it's like Gorguts!!! Kinda, yeah. The jazz additions make this one its very own beast, only challenged, soundscape-wise, by Neptunian Maximalism. This is much more metal though, alternating between tech death riffs and deafening black metal skits, jazz being mostly present through chord progressions - and funkier basslines than dm/bm ones. Immense shit that I won't spin that often specifically because it's immense.

Brilliant effort, that ends up delivering a more futuristic feel to the World they create(brought much from the atmosphere and a more techDM approach, on a closer look) as opposed to the more actual NY scenery you catch on VL. Both in the same level of quality I'd say and this is still filled with panic, euphoric, jazzy and smokey yk...Alphaville is a big highlight here.

It is not everyday that I find a black metal album that I like, and it is even rarer to find a black metal album that I enjoy. Well on the NYC three piece bands fourth album they blow there previous three albums out of the water with this extremely challenging, sophisticated, and abstract record. From the very opening track ?Rotted Futures? you feel mesmerized by the opening saxophone distorted drone that leads into some pummeling guitars and drums. However, as you continue through this album you will notice a lot of avant-garde ideas thrown in throughout the whole record. Especially on many of the back end or starts of tracks. You are in for a rough listen, but a truly amazing journey when you press play on this record. The only negative I have is the closer doesn?t really do much to wrap anything up, it sort of just ends with nothing to prove.

A cool concept, and surprisingly one which sounds very cohesive. However, in getting over the hurdle of cohesivness, Imperial Triumphant seem to have forgotten about variation. The dissonant mix of jazz, tremolo-picked metal and some nasty breakdown riffs rarely venture far from each other, which ultimately makes for a somewhat mediocre listen.
