There is perhaps a background story I am missing, but I feel like this is a bit underrated. I will concede the record is a bit weird, with some bits feeling not so serious, many questionable vocals and some prod issues, and it's also a bit long. But there is real value to be found here. 1 is a masterclass of an intro track with synths, tension, flutes, which could go into prog as much as it could go into shpongle stuff. The prod transitioning into 2 is awful though, and the track frankly feels like mariokart music, then 3 is a cool prog interlude again. 4-5 are alright, the reprise is tight but the vocals are very meh (a theme). 6 is just a guy whispering in your ear which I like not. 8 is kinda pink floydey in places (another theme, good this time) with its guitars, whilst 9 evokes PF's softer tracks but with a really weird mix on some of hte drums. 10-11 continues this reasonably well, then what on Earth is 12. From there on I lost track a bit, there's lots of interludey feeling stuff, reasonably good. 17 grabbed my attention a bit again with its frun DnB type rhythm, and 18 is quite nice and Pink Floydey with flutes. Sure it's a bit messy and it's not the prog record of the century, but it could be worse. Definite chaotic good energy. Compensatory 3.4

A rather ominous debut for a band achieving impeccable future acclaim. Several cuts present incomplete and quite frankly nonsensical. And then it happens: Radioactive Toy fires on all cylinders. The rest is history.

It's noisy, messy and has been seen as a dud-debut to many on this site, but I kinda dug it. This album still brings some moments of the same odd brilliance that their other classics would later claim.

Progressive rock played in *common time* on a *computer*?! Sounds like a joke, right? Well, that's because it is, partially, but On the Sunday of Life is more than that. It's a daring adventure. A true original. Only for avant-lovers though, I'm afraid. The rest of you might try "Radioactive Toy", but other than that, better stick to your usual Deadwing/The Dark Side of the Moon stuff.

This needs more love. Sure, on first listen it feels weak, but after a while it has plenty of growing power. Much like JP's Rocka Rolla, I think this album is undeservedly overlooked in light of later releases.

Due to being compiled of tracks a hardcore fan of this "band" (at the point of this recording) from albums undoubtedly already heard, On the Sunday of Life... seems somewhat pointless. It has to get some points for helping launch Porcupine Tree into a real band, instead of Wilson running the show single-handedly. Most of the stuff here is recycled, and therefore the listen isn't too spectacular.
