Comparing this to Discovery is like comparing sunshine & rain. One of them shines with brilliance & is bright, the other is dark, horrible & miserable. I would compare Homework to the latter of these. Although it may be the album that blew House music out to everyone, I have to admit I found Discovery more entertaining & certainly more musically diverse, Homework is extremely repetitive all over & runs way longer than it should. I'm glad this came first, so that I can see where Daft Punk realized their weak points & strengthen them for what Discovery would become

Popular as these guys are, their debut just doesn't cut it. The title Homework is ironically fitting, since that's what it begins to feel like as each track grinds on.

The (somewhat) latter half of this album gets decent starting with the track Rock'n Roll but it was incredibly hard to care about any of the songs on this album besides Around The World until then. This is just really generic house but it's cool to see how they improved later on.

This is a debut full of pieces that work deceptively well. However, those pieces are stretch to absurd lengths, makes it hard to justify its crushing 74 Minute length. What is there is more than enough to craft a slightly bloated but excellent 45-50 minute album, but when multiple tracks drag on past the 7 minute mark, even the absurdly catchy hook on 'Around the World' and the addictive distortion on "Rolling & Scratchin" can't save how long it feels. This is something they later nailed (generally) on Discovery. Production on the other hand is sublime, from the opening vocals to the closing thunderous synths "Alive" every vocal, synth, and effect pops off the page with tight precision.

I love this album and its electro-funk for the ADHD generation. Hits harder than Discovery (which I also love); where Discovery explores all things love, Homework is the initial dark portal/wormhole that brings you into the Daft Punk universe. I mean, this album brought us Around the World AND Da Funk (with its far-out dog-man music video directed by Spike Jonze). A legendary debut by a legendary duo.

cant believe I hadnt rated this before, but yeah highs are very highs, lows are very low, I think it's kinda like Human After All, cool overall, but with some low lows bringing it down.

There's one thing Daft Punk got right: Homework indeed feels like homework. It's a chore to listen to. 73 minutes of mind-numbing beats in endless loops - my metronome makes more engaging music. I paused listening a few times in the middle to watch some cat videos I stumbled across because they seemed more interesting. Garbage album. - 0.5
