5.0 classic | Brady Hayes | April 22nd 21 | Aside from a rather dull track 3, Bruit's The Machine is burning is a massive tour de force of ambient and orchestral post-rock. A genre defining rebirth of Post-rock that blows most of its competitors completely out of the water. The ebb and flow of the beautiful interludes and build ups of the first two tracks, Industry and Renaissance are met with ridiculously high payoffs with cataclysmic crescendos that are almost unrivaled in sound. The fading in of drums to the wall of hazy static and drone is especially immaculate on Renaissance, where the barbaric pounding of drums is muted in comparison to the guitars. Seriously, this is a technological marvel that should be no overlooked.

3.5 great | Comatorium. | April 4th 24 | Salright. The first track is good and the rest kinda fizzle without going anywhere meaningful.

3.5 great | Bedex | April 4th 24 | Now I don't recall a single thing from the starter EP, but based on the EP it seems I was more excited about it than I was about this. This is very well crafted, has diverse instrumentation and rich production, good transitions, and a varied sound within post-rock, but I do feel it misses grandiose moments. I still feel like the tracks kind of die out at times. It is always good, but I was never captivated. 1 is not fantastic but does display the aforementioned diversity well, 2 is without doubt my favourite of the lot with its more acoustic sound and its strings, 3 is much more electronic and feels like it would be a great album opener more than a mid album track, whilst 4 has a long build up leading to a climax feeling like an upper middle tier GYBE track before descending into an all in all nice section. 2 is clearly the standout track here and if it were all like that we'd be probably looking at a circa 4.0+ rating, but here I have to stick with a 3.7

4.5 superb | Gene Gol-Jonsson CONTRIBUTOR | December 21st 21 | I am nothing, if not a sceptic of current state of post-rock, having heard too many releases deemed generally as breaths of fresh air and finding them mostly still variations of the same. And even I was caught off-guard by Bruit's latest. Granted, much of its sound and structure is nothing new, but the band knows it and employs these clichés with talent and skill like nobody's business. Absolutely beautiful album, unlike anything I've heard this year.

4.0 excellent | Erwann S. STAFF | July 14th 21 | Ooooh, new Godspeed haha rekt. Indeed, The Machine Is Burning is shamelessly treading the same paths as Godspeed, but at least Bruit make it beautiful and engaging, and, let's be honest here, that's all you can ask for in 2021. The record is mostly sensible, benefits from an excellent production that allows the rich instrumentation (clarinet, French horn, vibraphone among others) to shine, and its structure isn't solely based on the loud/quiet/loud dynamic. Amazing? Eh. Best post-rock in recent years? Hell yeah.

4.5 superb | ajcollins15 | April 29th 21 | Post-rock has never been my cup of tea, but there are some huge exceptions and this grand debut from the four-piece French band might be one of the best I have heard in a long time. There is nothing new to bring in chamber orchestration, but as soon as the first track ?Industry? comes in you know you?re in for a real grand, explosive, and progressive album. ?Renaissance? sees a deeper post-rock connection while ?Amazing Old Trees? sees a more space ambient and drone feel than a rock or neo-classical feel. My biggest gripe is the production of this album and how little space there is for everything. For example, the final track ?The Machine is Burning? puts this issue on full display because many of the orchestrations and rock instrumentation is completely swallowed by the drones. Plus, there is no room for the angelic vocals that come in. But it is still a decent track just wish the production was wider than it is. Still, an absolutely fabulous record that takes you into a meditative yet sophisticated place without leaving you bored or wandering.
