4.0 excellent | ajcollins15 | June 23rd 22 | I have come to realize the more theatrical and intense a record is, on top of feeling like a true artist's artistic vision, the more I love an album. This new album from the Texas-based band might be subtle and quiet, but it hits you over the head in emotional delivery, powerful ambient textures, and building instrumental backdrops. The album falls flat in the fact that it feels as if Talk Talk and Ben Howard got together to make Ok Computer by Radiohead; equally as emotional and pretentious. Overall, a truly great record that any fan of the mentioned bands will really love, on top of being a great listen from front to back.

4.5 superb | valrus | March 9th 24 | Biggest grower of the last several years for me. Initially I was turned off by the slow, stately wash of it (especially after getting used to Animal Joy and Jet Plane and Oxbow, both pretty lively) but it really got its hooks in... and there are hooks. The lyrics are skeletal but a lot of lines stick with me.

3.0 good | Erwann S. STAFF | August 25th 22 | Slow that ain't core: it's mostly an ethereal "art" record with a folk atmosphere a la Ben Howard and pedant vocal delivery a la Mark Hollis. Classy, for sure, as well as pretty, but its ambient textures do not always succeed at delivering the emotional leverage the lyrics hinted at. The grand, orchestral tracks manage to do so; the calmer tunes do not.
