BEAUTIFUL. absolutely amazing.  i love the blend of the screams and high, melodic vocals. the lyrics that match with the story of annabel are just simply astounding. you guys did it again

After having called this band a pimple on the face of music and saying that this status has only been confirmed because this atrocious pile of crap is indeed their opus by miles, I must admit that I'm not as offended by this as I used to be. I mean the spoken-word samples and digitally-generated melodrama is pathetic like the lyrics, but Shawn's singing has half the nasally timbre it used to. Also, it's in control as opposed to before where he blindly wailed with little to no success. Denis of course hasn't changed, he's just gotten louder for the worse. However 75% of this album feels like a really mediocre pop-punk album, but Alesana bring it down with their pretense and a frontman who seriously needs to get the rosethorn out of his urethra.

Alesana have most definitely improved on The Emptiness, but they are still pretty fucking terrible. Granted, the high pitched voice is somewhat apt on the verses of "The Thespian", and the musicianship contains more depth and technicality.m However, the tracks are still boring as all hell; the growled vocals are absolutely terrible, terrible, terrible; and there's no artistic merit on this album.
Also it's pretentious (yes Alesana can do that.)

This album is nostalgic for me which is why I'm giving it a 5. I honestly can't think of anything I don't like about this album. I guess some of the tracks weren't as good as others (didn't love heavy hangs the albatross as much as hymn for the shameless but i still loved both of them) but i mean thats to be expected from any album. maybe if i re-listened to it i'd have less of a bias

This album is a fun listen. It doesn't really hit me in the feels in any way since its kind of dramatic and silly at times, but it's one that i'll definitely always have fond memories of.

There are some decent songs on here, but I hate that spoken word shit. WAY too much of it. I can forgive one or two songs with it but half the album has it and it sounds so stupid, regardless of what they are saying.

One of my favorite albums ever. I, as well, was introduced to screamo/metalcore through Alesana, and though it's not generally my cup of tea, (I'm more of an alt punk/indie boy) I've grown to love it. Contrary to popular misconception, the screams actually offer a very warm, heartwrenching feeling in a way.

This was actually surprisingly good. Definitely their best release to date considering their past efforts. They were quite mediocre. The singer still sounds like a bitch and is what drags down the music for me. Guitars improved very much so compared to their other stuff and I hope they continue to progress into something better.

I'm honestly not a fan of screamo & Alesana is one of the few bands under that genre I truly enjoy!
I dig this new album. I like the voices that come in with the songs. It makes it seem more personal to me...something more than /just/ another screamo album.

I love this album. Alesana has a brilliant way of writing, as Shawn Milke commented, "Journey albums" as opposed to concept, and their wide scope of inspiration from Greek Mythology, The Brother's Grimm & Edgar Allen Poe gives them the opportunity to interpret each telling in their own unique, emotional and touching way. The concept behind The Emptiness was from Poe's tellings, and each song has been brilliantly crafted. It is perhaps lighter in tone (yet not in subject matter!) than the previous ones, perhaps as a result of better producing. The narratives are especially haunting and memorable, like mantras for those in their own dark turmoil like the protagonists' own. Instrumental and delivery is both energy-driven and lulling as always, and their musical flair shall bring thought and visual perception should you be able to imagine dimly-lit English sidestreet... Definitely a must-listen for all fans of previous albums; you shall not be disappointed!!

Mostly shoddy vocals once again. "The Artist" is catchy. "The Murderer" has a nice breakdown near the end, but is ruined with the bad screaming, and after that, the song gets really annoying. Nothing else is worth mentioning. Some decent riffs throughout the album keep it listenable enough for the first time through.

This is a 3 now cuz of my nostalgia for these guys, I used to love 'em. might drop to a 2.5. Shows a little progression, and their catchier now. Nothing too special though. Dennis's highs = shit.
