4.0 excellent | cjbizzlebizzle | May 18th 24 | Mannequin Pussy move a bit further away from their Hardcore roots but really just a bit as their songwriting and the variety to their approach matures very well on 'I Got Heaven'. As someone who's AOTY was 'Patience' in 2019, it took patience awaiting MP's next LP and I can't say I was a bit nervous to see where the band would go. Thankfully they continue to fold punk and hardcore accents into a great overall noisy rock equation. Favorite moments are the verse to chorus transition and all of 'Loud Bark', the lyrics and softer side seen on 'I Don't Know You', the tension dynamics in 'Sometimes' and all of the title track. The one slightly goofy thing is the placement of the more hardcore tracks all back to back near the end of the record, it feels odd from a pacing perspective but also hard to imagine how else to lay out the tracks. Great trajectory from one of the best bands in the more aggressive side of indie rock/pop/punk.

3.5 great | ajcollins15 | March 6th 24 | Mannequin Pussy's latest offering, "I Got Heaven," marks a significant evolution for the band, showcasing their ability to fuse hardcore punk with indie rock into a dynamic and unique sound. The album resonates particularly with Gen Z through its lyrics, while the production quality nods to the revered noise pop and power pop bands of the late '90s and early 2000s. This blend of modern sensibilities with a respectful homage to musical predecessors is a standout feature of Mannequin Pussy's work, offering a compelling listening experience that feels both fresh and familiar. Despite its strengths, the album occasionally grapples with a sense of inconsistency, presenting a "two-faced" nature in its execution. Nevertheless, "I Got Heaven" emerges as a vibrant and invigorating record, reinforcing Mannequin Pussy's growing reputation for crafting engaging and forward-thinking music.
