The 80's were a tumultuous and fascinating time for The Cure, who ran the gamut between all sorts of sounds and styles ranging from post-punk to gothic rock to new wave to just straight-up pop rock. There were albums that were more singular in sound, like Pornography, but also albums that encompassed all of their styles and influences together. Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me is the best of these, and for good reason. Combining the many subgenres the band worked with with their penchant for different tones and shades of emotions, and endless smorgasbord of sounds is found within the hour-and-fifteen minutes of music here. Basically any incarnation of The Cure up until this point can be heard here, and with outstanding quality to both songwriting and performances to boot. There's a bunch of highlights here, including the grand "The Kiss", the infectious "Just Like Heaven", the funky "Hot Hot Hot!!" and the brooding "One More Time". It's no wonder at all, then, why The Cure was one of the defining bands of the 80's with accomplishments like these.

While its tracks are a bit hit or miss, this album does a good job at attempting to encapsulate The Cure with all their forms present: sad Cure, happy Cure, wailing Cure, ecstatic Cure, strange/exotic Cure, quiet Cure, angry Cure, pop perfection Cure, etc. etc.

I find the major difference between Disintegration and Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me, extremely interesting. I really liked this, it's a perfectly fine pop record.

I don't care for the majority of the tracks on this album and find the vocals extremely annoying. Of course "Just Like Heaven" is a great song, but it doesn't save the album.

Count them up and you'll see there's an abundance of worthwhile moments - far more than there are skipable ones. Most albums would dream of containing as many gems as this outing and that's what 'Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me' encapsulates, really - a bloated concept, but one with enough value to warrant an investment of time and care from the listener. It may be a big, fat, smothering kiss, but there's still good reason to want to find 'Kiss Me's shade of lipstick smudged on the collar of your shirt.

Eclectic, experimental and full of unique tracks (Some of which try a bit too hard). One minute you're listening to intense, brooding, Gothic Rock guitars and the next up-beat New Wave synth lines. Its a little clumsy (lyrically) and awkward at times , but wonderful assortment of Robert Smith's moods. My favorite tracks include "Icing Sugar", "The Kiss", "All I Want", "Like Cockatoos" , "If Only Tonight we could Sleep", "the Snakepit" and "Shiver and Shake"
