Now this is noise pop; as in, it's both truly noisy and truly poppy, and not just a bunch of pop songs with some distortion. Textures clash into one another, guitars keep wailing in a chainsaw manner, and the beats are LOUD. It's almost too much, and it sometimes is ("Straight A's"), but they usually find a good balance, especially on megabanger "Infinity Guitars", or on sweet, catchy pop tune "Rill Rill".

I think it's such a shame that this record has fallen from view as the decade has gone on, because for all the "noise-pop" ballyhooing that it got when it was released, the ascent of bands like Death Grips and the Yeezus style of electronic music actually show that this style of music was part of a larger trend as opposed to a one-off curio. Still, these songs are so damn catchy to me (especially when they slow it down on "Rill Rill"), and I think the masculine/feminine and "teen violence" dynamics at play here are really fascinating.

i really like this, and I'm usually not into that hipster bullshit!ri dunno why this got so much hate, it was included in several "worst albums of the year". And it just puzzles me how could anyone put these guys in the same category as brokencyde, as anthony fantano did in his review.ri wouldn't rate this higher than a 3.5-4, put it is definitely enjoyable and you should give it a try.

Listened to this on a whim after reading a few articles that mentioned the band. Couldn't be more impressed. There's really not a bad track here, but "Infinity Guitars," "A/B Machines" and "Rill Rill" are standouts. Go see them live if you get the chance.
