Straight up nostalgia, the first album of my own I ever bought. I don't agree with the terrible reviews here, they clearly just don't like this genre of music.

One of NFG's most underrated albums. At first listen, I was like "eh, its okay.". After a few
dozen spins it started to grow on me. It can be all over the place (looking at Jordan) but still a
great pop punk entry into NFG's catalog.
My favorite tracks off the record (in no order): All Downhill From Here, This Disaster and Doubt

Mostly inoffensive pop-punk/rock band, though the vocals can get grating. For what it is though, you can do a whole lot worse.

Whiny vocals that sound like a seal sneezing, but nonetheless some of the songs are catchy and enjoyable in a guilty pleasure sort of-way. It's nowhere near a masterpiece, but pop punk-enthusiasts may enjoy.

One phrase suits this album all too well: fast-paced, but generic pop punk is as generic pop punk does. New Found Glory, one of the architects of this brand of musical style alongside Blink-182, are competent enough musicians to muster up a batch of mostly passable songs on Catalyst. Older ladies and gents will become fed up with being subjected to Jordan Pundik's whiny vocal performance, though to give him credit, it's appropriate for this album and the band's sound in general. I do feel obligated to revisit a couple tracks here and there (e.g. "Intro," "Over the Head, Below the Knee," and "Ending in Tragedy") because the replay value isn't too far from the target, and yet the recording can only be perceived as decent and nothing else; maybe annoying as shit, but isn't that a given?

I never thought too heavily on the negativity this album received. I feel that the hatred towards
this CD was the heavy focus on melody. But that's what made this album so special. It had the unique way of
selling itself as fun and upbeat. It's repetiveness can be quoted here and there, but it has a special place in
my heart b/c of the pure energy it provides.

Sticks and Stones was awesome pop punk. I don't even care about the criticisms of the vocals. "My Friends Over You" was an anthem for a kid with fledgling girl problems. Catalyst just couldn't capture any of the emotions as well and came off flat. Ironic that my band ended up playing a cover of "Failure's Not Flattering" at our shows for several months.

If you are a fan of this type of music (I was and still occasionally am-) there is no reason to write off Catalyst... this was New Found Glory in their prime, not the beginning as many thought- who knew that two more quick albums would eventually sink NFG to their curret "Who?" status. NFG had just caught on after Sticks and Stones warm response; Catalyst was an attempt at keeping what was good about NFG and expanding into other territories to show their range beyond basic 4-chord pop punk rock. What emerged is an above-average collection; a few classic songs emerge, but as a whole the album sinks. Not a problem then, but a problem now- Catalyst is forgotten because NFG has been forgotten... sad

To think I used to like this. New Found Glory is known for their once-catchy pop-punk hooks, but now, lead singer Jordan has been just awful for the band. His vocals strain the listener's ears as they have to hear his woman-like screechy voice. This could've been a catchy album, even with its boring boring boring guitars, basic basic basic drums and non-existent non-existent non-existent bass because I can imagine it with a decent singer and decent lyrics, which this album also doesn't offer. This could've gotten something like a 2, but no, this is a 1. Horrible.
