1.0 awful | Iluvatar | June 26th 06 | I so wish I was "saying Goodbye" to this album. I had heard there was vast improvement on this disc as opposed to the first, so because I'm a dumbass I acquired it. I was pleased to hear...well, none of it. It's pretty much the generic embodiment of generisticity, which isn't even a word, which should indicate just how bad this album really is. Oh and they have 3 guitarists, og which they nee about a keyboard player to accomplish everything they do. Probably to better effect.

3.5 great | AtavanHalen | July 5th 08 | You all know those five mopey kids who called out "cut my wrists and black my eyes". But what became of them after that? A few things- firstly, they learned how to create some great guitar pop songs. Secondly, they discovered the joys of melody and catchy hooks, improving drastically from their previous record. Lastly, they started enjoying themselves. Sure, the themes are similarly bleak, and they haven't become genius songwriters overnight. But the Hawthorne Heights that we find on this album are far smarter, far more skilled at their art and genuinely more exciting than before. And the beauty of this is the fact their best work is still ahead of them.

5.0 classic | HeidiH2260 | January 9th 09 | I think this is a really good band for the most part. This is by far their best CD. I think people give this band way too much shit just because they're labeled as an "emo" band. People will think what they want, but in my opinion this is a very good album.

1.0 awful | joey2828 | April 4th 07 | Thank God I didn't shuffle out money to buy this stuff. I downloaded it. It, like their previous effort, is a terrible album. Hawthorne Heights is a band that obviously has no power to progress. Iron Maiden progressed from Powerslave to Somewhere In Time. Metallica progressed from Kill 'Em All to Ride The Lightning. Have the Heights progressed? Not a single bit. You can tell this album's terrible just from the song titles. Where can I stab myself in the ears? Seriously.

1.0 awful | Progamuffin | June 13th 15 | I can put Saosin with Cove Reber, Alexisonfire, Project 86, and the like to remember some good childhood things and stuff I learned, this however reminds me about how whiny and self centered I was in high school and at this day and age I just wonder how anyone can really dig something like this or even listen to this in a serious context.

2.0 poor | Jared Floryan | August 27th 14 | If Only You Were Lonely sums up my feelings about the past, when I first obtained this CD because of a phase I found myself in. The lyricism is no less awkward than Hawthorne Heights' previous album, the screams provided by Casey Calvert (R.I.P) dip in weak sauce every now and then, and there are just some tracks on the record ("Pens and Needles," "Saying Sorry," and "Light Sleeper") considered so earworm-y that the bandmates crash and burn due to the lack of maturation. At the very least, though, the musicianship is slightly passable, as are some of the backing vocals.

3.5 great | TheThirdChildren | May 10th 13 | Hawthorne Heights have greatly improved on their second album, fixing most of the major flaws from their debut. The vocals never get annoying, although the screams can still get occasionally annoying. The instrumentation, while not sounding too amazing, sounds much more fleshed out, and the usage of 3 guitars actually works out sometimes. However, the lyrics stick a little too close to familiar ground with the depressing themes, and the band still don't have any new or fresh ideas to add to the pop-emo formula. Tracks to download: Where Can I Stab Myself In The Ears, Saying Sorry

4.0 excellent | Epicenter | May 5th 13 | Some serious nostalgia in this bitch. They were probably the first band to actually get me into metal and I give them my respect in that regard. It's also still a pretty fun album to listen to.

0.0 | macadoolahicky | March 29th 12 | With If Only You Were Lonely, Hawthorne Heights acheive their goal in music the best that they probably will ever be able to. Even though it's far off from perfection, it's still a great album. Definitely good for those dark teen years we all have.
