This album is a toatal waste, but it isnt as horrendous as everyone lables it as. C'mon guys, admit it, you only listened to the first song, heard Ice-T, and shut if off. As someone who paid money for the CD back in the day, I've actually listened to every song (gasp!). Yes, the first song is one of the worst songs I've ever heard, but Get A Grip is pretty damn good and Shaking Off The Chains is also a decent listen. Cant Get Close Enough is also a one of the best songs with Martin on it, but it sounds like something Nirvana would do. The rest is just bland and generic with nothing special. Skip the first song, but listen to tracks 2,3, and 4, but then shut off the album because it will offer you nothing but what you've already heard.

The Tony Iommi 2024 remix confirms what many of us suspected for a long time. There was a very solid album lurking underneath a very poor original mix.

Y'all are sheeps and deaf. Instead of slapping an instant 1.0 on it when you hear Ice-T, maybe try to actually listen to the record. Sure, it has bad songs, like "Shaking Off the Chains", but the entire package is not bad at all. Not the most interesting, so the right description is average.

(One Day Later) Yeah, I desperately wanted there to be something here to go against the consensus. But there isn't. It's just bad, it's aimless and it really comes across like nobody cared - which aligns with the rumour that this was merely an obligation record. The guitar tone is cool, that's about all I can say. We lost fourteen years worth of Sabbath off the back of this, real shame. It also tarnishes Tony Martin's good work on other records by association, another big shame.

Good lord, why? The first track is easily why Sabbath were just fine without ever having anyone featured. Most of the album is a total snoozefest and Tony Martin comes off as a poor imitation of Dio. An unfortunate final nail in the coffin for the metal pioneers.

just when I thought the band found there stride... aside from the odd cash in on trying to make
another DMC "walk this way" for the opening track, the rest of the album is nothing but filler.
the one prop I can give this though is that the drumming on this one is fantastic, and is the sole
reason this does not get a 1 from me.

Good god am I happy to have made it through this at all. Horrible, horrible, the cherry on top of the truly garbage Martin era (except for Tyr which I enjoyed a bit). As far as I am concerned this album does not exist.

FORBIDDEN is often regarded as the worst Black Sabbath studio record ever made. I really can't disagree with that observation because I can't think of any album that eroded their reputation and credibility as much as this one. They made the unusual choice of having Body Count's Ernie C. produce the album. And while I wouldn't place all of the blame on him, the mix doesn't project the sort of power you'd expect from Black Sabbath. Iommi's usually thunderous guitar is turned down a bit and the overall mix just seems quite weak and unsuitable for this kind of music. Aside from a few minor highlights ("Can't Get Close Enough" and "Rusty Angels") the album does sound fairly tired and uninspired, paling even in comparison to the tepid CROSS PURPOSES. This definitely wasn't the album Sabbath's fans wanted at this point in time (or any other). But in retrospect, FORBIDDEN doesn't seem unforgivably bad, just rather misguided and uninspired.

...What the hell happened? Black Sabbath bring a consistent if mostly unexciting string of releases since The Eternal Idol, and then there's Forbidden, a record that sets a far lower bar than Technical Ecstacy or Born Again. Opener "Illusion of Power" is a trainwreck: Martin's vocals sound uninspired, the production is poorly balanced, the rap verse is tacky, and the guitarwork is lazy. It really doesn't get better from here. "Get a Grip" has an ok riff but is recycled, and Martin sounds out of it on this whole release. "Can't Get Close Enough" is cumbersome, and "Shaking Off The Chains" is a failed abortion with awful vocal delivery. Forbidden is an album you're feel "Guilty as Hell" for liking or get "Sick And Tired" of upon first listen. One of heavy metal's biggest failures. They really sunk low here, but at least it didn't close their career with their newest output 13 18 years later.

I my self am a tony martin era fan, the guy is not bad plus they made some good albums with him, but this album?? rIts bad, even martin says its garbage, i only gave it this rating 2.5 because of two songs :-r1- wont cry on u.r2- Kiss of death.rThis album isn't only bad in black sabbath standard, no its bad in general even if a new band began with an album like this no one will care about it, the album lacks the spirit and focus plus the production is really bad, i don't know in general it a lame album with only 2 good songs.

Their worst album but also the last before the awesome reunion, Black Sabbath's studio relevence had long since faded before this. Do yourself a favour and listen to any other Sabbath record over this.
